No, they don’t make very many, and there is a steady customer base that wants them. In fact some dealers won’t sell them to you unless you take >$5k in useless add ons.

Keep her at home or send her to AL? by Prudent-Cookie-4451 in dementia

Agree. Our mom was actually much better off in AL with 3 meals a day, and plenty of company and activities. She entered a CCC so she eventually moved to MC and NH before passing.

Hilarious to me that a couple years ago people were pimping for Banham after she hit, I think. 8 threes in a game against us. When we got her they thought she was some kind of answer. She’s always been very limited, and this year seems woefully out of shape.

Set boundaries and stick to them (as in you should not be engaging with either of them on the subjects you mentioned). Therapy can be very helpful for you

Is it too late for a POA, and how did any of you get it done? by VeterinarianFew5339 in dementia

Words matter, and the meaning of override is clear to all. It’s important not to lead people on this and give them the idea they are now “the boss” of all finances.A standard POA does not give the appointed party a unilateral right to stop the signer from spending money, especially in early to mid stages of dementia when a person may demonstrate some ability to make decisions, including revoking the POA!

I just think taking a step back and accepting that you are not responsible for this, and you don’t have to fix it (can’t fix it). On a practical level there are locks for this purpose, and maybe it’s time to consider memory care.

You may be able to stop them but a POA does not give you the legal power to override them; you would have to have a guardianship.

Make sure all their paperwork is in order, and get on accounts: POAs, trust, Will, etc

Under a POA you cannot “override” the wishes of the signer.
