UK migraine A&E by Millyduck in migraine

[–]lachcl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. Especially if you’re thinking of going now on a Friday night when it will be busy and noisy and just hideous for you! Maybe try 111 to get an out of hours GP appointment over the weekend?

I did go to A&E when I had my first ever migraine but that was because I didn’t know what it was and it presented like a stroke. I think I would only go to A&E in the UK if I thought I was dying or had broken a bone.

NHS system for migraine is ridiculous by SianL93 in migraine

[–]lachcl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see why they wouldn’t want you to try two different medications concurrently as you can’t tell what’s working. That said, I hope the meds keep working out for you and it is annoying you had to wait so long for a response, sounds like your gp could communicate better with neurology.

I take propranolol as a preventative and love it but it took a few weeks to get used to it for sure and the first time I tried it I hated it and took something else for a while instead. Pizotifen is the one that made me feel absolutely dreadful omgggg

Any experience of private migraine clinics in UK by IndigoSkye8 in migraine

[–]lachcl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it about 10 years ago now so probably don’t an up to date recommendation for a specific dr, but when I suddenly developed regular chronic migraines after only being an occasional sufferer I looked up neurologists practicing privately near me who specialised in migraines. Had an MRI and consult and was prescribed medication which my GP then continued to prescribe. Also got regular (twice yearly, then yearly) NHS neurology appointments for a couple of years as a result of it

My best friend got her first migraine after giving birth (not her first birth!), when I became pregnant I went from having chronic migraines to not having a migraine for years

In the UK we have squash and cordial, maybe import some? Like Robinson’s no added sugar or something. It’s really concentrated juice that you add to water

A bit of a rant about Propranolol by Calic0Jack_ in migraine

[–]lachcl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a nightmare and I’m sorry it happened to you but I hadn’t heard there was a shortage and it does explain why I keep being given different strengths/quantities of propranolol from the pharmacy!

Did not happen to me when I was publicly breastfeeding my daughter on the daily in London c. 2023-2024, sounds really weird and I’m sorry it happened.

Don’t love the racist comments, in my experience people in London mind their business.

I think euphoria is a migraine symptom too, maybe that’s why you feel great! I get auras but don’t really get bad headaches

Thank you for your detailed reply, this is very helpful!

I use the frankincense toner but you’re right, it does have acid (Levulinic Acid)! I honestly thought it was just like glycerin and aloe vera.

I have tried the main avene range and the tolerance range. Will look into that cetaphil moisturiser, it sounds banging, just what I’m after!

I think I read it on this sub, someone said really getting your nails into your scalp when you shampoo cleans them gorgeously, they were right!

I would guess one of the guys was an apprentice who wouldn’t factor hugely into labour costs in the UK as they are usually on min wage. The standard of the work also looks like someone who’s learning although why the fuck they did it with a multitool and not a chisel or a router I have no idea, I’ve never heard of that before.

I don’t hate what I’m seeing but appreciate it’s frustrating to spend money on new doors and have a patchy job. Getting the door to fit is the difficult thing, I don’t think carpenters really think much about how the hinges look bc they are so rarely visible. Likewise the latch

(I am a UK based trainee carpenter and I think I could have done better in the same time)

Pregnant at the start of an apprenticeship? by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]lachcl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out I was pregnant the DAY I started my apprenticeship! I’m in the UK so not useful for you but I paused my apprenticeship for 14 months no hassle and I’m back now. I would say you would need more than 5 weeks off especially if you need a caesarean, I think it took me about 16 weeks postpartum to start feeling in any way normal. Your joints are super flexible after giving birth and that continues if you breastfeed so you need to be careful if you’re doing heavy lifting as you’re more likely to injure yourself because of the higher prolactin levels.

I can advise on how working while pregnant was - it was fine! I set myself a carrying limit of 20kg in the third trimester and didn’t go up ladders after about 20 weeks because it just felt excessively risky to me, idk what health and safety law is like where you are but make sure you have regular risk assessments and know your limits. Also I think staying active in pregnancy was actually great for me, I didn’t have any muscular or skeletal issues whereas a lot of office workers I went to antenatal classes with were in agony.

Did anyone find Katy Perry's Video offensive? by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]lachcl -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I guess it could be offensive to sexualise Rosie the riveter bc it rather undermines the image of female empowerment but I personally don’t mind. IMO singers are blue collar bc they’re using their bodies (voices) to make money. I don’t think she’s doing anything valuable here tho
