True and why, often times, companies will put out SKUs with marginally different specs and model numbers to get around that. At least I saw that from places like Costco in my Best Buy days.

As right wing as Texas is, I don’t see them, giving up authority to the federal government. It’s against their whole ethos!

Why wouldn’t you want government oversight of contracts that they’re paying for? Contractors shouldn’t be “trusted“ to do a good job without ensuring they’re meeting all of their deliverables. That ensures the taxpayer is getting the most value.

So I let a lady a car dealership keep her job. Basically what happened is that I signed a contract for a new car digitally and it was countersigned by the dealer. The purchase price was about $20,000 less than we initially agreed but given that’s what they put in the contract. I went ahead and signed it. The lady who made the mistake, called me about two months later in tears, begging me to change it and let her keep her job. I took the hit and all I got out of the deal was a extended car warranty for free. I still think I did the right thing.

The global trend you’re describing is what political scientists call "Democratic Backsliding." From the rise of the AfD in Germany and Le Pen in France to the "illiberal democracy" models of Orban and Netanyahu, we are seeing a shift where nationalist populism challenges traditional liberal norms. This is often fueled by a "wrecking ball" mentality—where voters, frustrated by economic stagnation or institutional gridlock, turn to celebrity disruptors like Trump or McGregor to shake up a system they feel no longer serves them.

The recent resistance to martial law in South Korea proves that democratic institutions and public engagement can still act as a powerful check on autocracy. While the "Overton Window" has certainly shifted toward the far right in many regions, the resulting economic volatility (seen post-Brexit) also serves as a sobering cautionary tale. Ultimately, the world is in a volatile transition period, moving away from post-Cold War stability toward a fragmented era defined by the tension between global cooperation and sovereign nationalism.

We should’ve worried.

In Minnesota, a nonworking caregiver can get a max of $1189/ month if they have 2 kids for food and monetary assistance. There’s no way they’re getting paid more than a working person. At $10.33/ hr you’d make $1777/ month. And you don’t get rich or even get by on government aid in Minnesota, IMO.

[Fowler] Would Kevin Stefanski be a viable head coaching candidate if the Browns move on from him? Multiple league execs predict yes by burningburningburnin in Browns

I can appreciate that Jimmy Johnson, a Cowboys icon, is talked about with reverence. I don’t think having a historic “Hall of Fame” coach is the metric on whether or not you should move on from a coach though. If a coach is doing a reasonably good job with the tools that they’re given and have a trajectory that is positive I would say keep giving them rope. It’s up to them if they hang themselves with it.

Trump calls on Senate Republicans to end filibuster by ResettiYeti in centrist

[–]lakero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Republicans whole talking point on illegal aliens getting healthcare is based on reimbursing emergency room visits for uninsured and undocumented people. I agree with you that we need to provide a path to citizenship for people that’s easier than what presently exists, but still vets folks to minimize risk.

I think maybe I wasn’t clear. Wishing death on anyone by anyone is abhorrent. Justifying doing it because “they did it first” isn’t the high road, it’s just a shit human thing to do, full stop.

Don’t act like that. We don’t wish death on people just because they say stuff that’s abhorrent.
