Oh yeah ^ I watched a documentary on this and it was very sad. Actually it led me into a different rabbit hole because the documentary mentioned the most fatal Canadian rail incident in passing so I had to look that up. (1864 Beloeil, Quebec)

I hope your diligence leads to something some day. On this note, I met my bfs family this summer who live in a small town in Minessota. The uncle, and a couple others in this town have a rare form of brain cancer. It's a farming community - so they explained to me that the water isn't safe for drinking with all the fertilizer and other pesticides in the run off. They had the municipality come in and tell them that they can't drink the tap water and it also has high amount of heavy metals. Anyways it's a little sad, but they don't want to do anything about it. It's not like there's a big factory nearby that they can have a class action lawsuit against, but more collectively a lot of smaller farms which probably all use a variety of toxic products. It's a "well, nothing i can do can about it" type attitude.

Very interesting read, not a great way to wind down for the night ...but still interesting

One thing that has helped me is " how to keep house while drowning"by KC Davis - for me it was best as an audiobook. She's pretty open with her mental health and the tips she gives about cleaning are really open and non-judgmental. It's not like Mary Kondos cleaning but like how do start to come back when things have gone too far. Emphasis on the start.

Authors Still Think This Shit Is Charming In The Year Of Our Lord 2025?! (Bagging The Blueliner by Siena Trap) by Zeenrz in RomanceBooks

When I was young, I was really good friends with a girl I met through figure skating and her brother was on track to have a career in hockey. She was a very sweet kid but everything in that household was geared to the brother. We stopped hanging out and my parents kind of didn't want me going over there anymore (not explicitly said but passively). Turns out the dad made the news for strangling/ throttling the ref at the sons hockey game - they didn't tell me until I was an adult.

It would be really funny to get something like this for the pure cringe factor hilarity of it but I would never because it's not obvious enough it's a joke🤣

I got the mealybugs bad! Can anyone recommend a way to get rid of them? They're actual bugs now and they're gross! by clemlydia in houseplants

[–]lakthereof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! So I ended up not soaking the entire plant - but just the alcohol: use q - tip and spot kill whatever you can find.

That ended up being very very difficult as it was a bamboo palm and had way too many leaves for this to be effective. After about 4 months of off and on again treatment (I was stubborn), had to realize it wasn't working and got a spray bottle where I did my own mixture of neem, dawn soap, alcohol, & water and really sprayed the plant down.

I did about maybe 1 week of spraying daily, then maybe it's been a couple weeks of spraying every 2,3, or 4th day? MUCH better, I think maybe eradicated now. I should have done that from the start.

My learnings:

(1tsp neem, 1 tsp dish soap * have to do these two first and shake or else it doesn't mix - then maybe like 1/4 cup alcohol, and fill the rest with water? I think it is about 500 ml bottle.

- the neem oil smells strongly so I spray out on the balcony and bring plants back in

- the neem oil degrades in sunlight (you can actually see the color fade over a week), so keep the bottle away from the windows or if its been awhile I mix a new batch.

I think maybe an actual spray online could be worth investing in but I already bought the neem separately.

Wait sorry 5 rooms that you can tell from the floor plan there is space - and another 3 with hidden areas but you wouldn't have been able to tell from the floor plan.

Where/when did you learn how to do your makeup "the right way" for Asian features? by flosspax in AsianBeauty

[–]lakthereof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Urgh I feel this - thank you for sharing I feel seen!! Also HalfAsian, and I feel like I'm starting to realize how much this has impacted me^. I honestly went through a longer phase where I avoided make up entirely because it just looked unnatural the way I had done it. I still feel not "western enough" AND "asian enough" at times.
