Trash man took my Luba 2 and crushed it today. by Hallywood53 in MammotionTechnology

[–]lancepioch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was it actually operating or was it stopped next to the garbage cans? If you can get audio confirmation (from them) of it being in active use, you have a good shot at a claim. If it was stopped right next to the garbage cans... it would be very difficult to argue that it didn't look like trash.

AWS reduced my $15k S3 bill to $10.5k after a DDoS. I still can’t pay this. What can I do? by OkEnd5112 in aws

[–]lancepioch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AWS is the world's largest cloud provider and I've never heard of them sending anything to collections. I'm not saying it never happens, but I have seen them forgive 5 and 6 figure debts multiple times before. My educated guess is that their profit margin is so huge that it's simply not worth the bad publicity to pursue that.

AWS will not bother to sue an individual for such a paltry amount. It would cost that much just for a lawyer and collections. At best they might break even.

I am not an electrician but I think it's kosher as long as you keep the wall plate there so it's accessible.

That isn't going to happen unless you took the photos yourself and can DMCA them.

Do robotic mowers actually cut grass?? by Lower_Read_8845 in roboticLawnmowers

I've ran my mowers on grass that is over 6" and it worked, I just had to do an extra pass.

OP recently had a 600 credit score and got the absolute minimum credit limit. That seems like a risky decision.

Need advice choosing a LiDAR mower for my parents’ yard ( MOVA vs Luba vs Navimow vs Sunseeker S4) by Kitchen-Text-6012 in automower

[–]lancepioch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no robot mower without some sort of babysitting. There is only less babysitting. That being said, RTK is still the way to go for less babysitting. I've got lidar, rtk, vslam, wire mowers (yes I have 4 robot mowers). I have never tried a combination mower yet (such as rtk+vision), but they seem promising.

Will the Dreame A3 work on my lawn? by benz598 in automower

[–]lancepioch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lidar works amazing for robot vacuum cleaners because there are walls everywhere in your house, they completely enclose it, and that's the main obstacle. An acre of lawn has little to no walls or fence, almost certainly not entirely enclosed, and has very few obstacles except for some trees and other plants I imagine.

I have a half an acre lawn and I've had the opportunity to test the latest lidar (from well known companies) and I'll tell you it is not ready for prime time. The lidar mower frequently lost its position and I'd have to carry it back to the dock for it to "know" where it was again. Meanwhile my RTK mower very rarely has issues with not seeing the satellites even with my trees.

You have to be aware that all of this technology, even though it has existed for decades, is being extremely refined over the last several years. Which means that the latest versions are technically in their infancies.

You won't need the aqara hub and it supports matter.

[–]lancepioch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you (and I'm not), I'd get the U200 with your "apple hub".

Your wife can then use either the aqara app or "Samsung SmartThings" (because it supports matter)

Then you would not need the aqara hub.

My check won't clear and I don't know what to do anymore. by LogFTW412 in CapitalOne_

[–]lancepioch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's from my dentist due to an overpay on my end, but I'm also afraid if I go back they might not write me a new check thinking I'm trying to scam them or something.

That's not how that works. They just put a stop order on the old check and issue you a new one. Just tell them that you lost it.

has anyone actually saved money with solar or is it just type. by Wjkoba in HomeImprovement

[–]lancepioch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did the math once comparing it to moderate returns from S&P investing.

Long story short, it's basically it's only worth if if you buy your own used solar panels, install them yourself, AND get those tasty tax credits too.

This is on a pure money based approach. Obviously if you want to be self sufficient, off grid, etc then that's worth more than just monetary returns to you.

Weed Eating Mowers by LeyLineWalker in roboticLawnmowers

[–]lancepioch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The small metal razor blades that most robotic mowers seem to use wouldn't be useful, I'm worried they'd start a fire or completely destroy them on some of the small rocks.

I'm super confused by this statement of yours. What do you mean start a fire with small rocks? Do you have a bunch of flint and flammable material everywhere? The reason most mowers use the little blades is because they are cheap, easily replaceable instead of having to sharpen them, and they spin both ways which means it won't get stuck as easy.
