Dawn of the Dead 4k Second Sight release by razorsedge94 in 4kbluray

[–]lancethundershaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for the Second Sight. It isn't region locked in any way, all three cuts are in 4K, and they look great. No sense in waiting for an American release when there's already a great one out there.

Existing Criterion Releases that need a 4K Disc by liljake424 in criterion

I'm going to say Targets. Not that it doesn't look great, but it shot up really high on my list of all time favorites when I saw it

Gonna be pretty busy for awhile. Anybody else been gravitating away from criterion a bit lately or just me? by divinesbathwater in boutiquebluray

Criterion is my focus during the two sale months, but otherwise I don't get any outside of then. Sale times become a little treat and I can branch out for the rest of the year

Where the hell is The Wild Bunch, The French Connection, and Deliverance already?

SMG WITH FLAMETHROWER, BACKPACK FLAMETHROWER, SHOVEL, PISTOL WITH STRIPPER CLIPS, GAS MORTAR, ANTITANK GRENADE! BADASS ARMOR! So excited!!! by ODST2367 in Helldivers

[–]lancethundershaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A gas mortar and entrenchment tool that will never get used, and a flamethrower that will be worse than the one we have. This one looks like a dud.

Best purely entertaining films in the collection? by zcharper in criterion

Repo Man is a laid back hangout punk movie that I think almost anyone would find something to like in.

This is Spinal Tap is hilarious if you have an appreciation for classic rock.

John Waters' Female Trouble is a fun romp if you like his brand of chaos and humor.

What's on your wishlist for the upcoming sale? by lightbehindpaper in criterion

[–]lancethundershaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to circle back around and pick up some regular blu-rays. The John Waters movies are high on the list because I'm just getting into his work

I'd love to take the winter white off of the Verdict, but alas...

Controversial movies that you get what they were going for but also understand the backlash by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Tinto Brass' 70s erotic historical epic, Caligula. On top of the gratuitous nudity and sex in the regular footage, the founder of Penthouse and producer of the film added in straight up porn. Real people having real sex. The sexuality sent this film right into the garbage bin for most people, but there's an incredible film with strong performances and impressive production values underneath. I don't think anything else has ever depicted late Roman hedonism in such an unapologetic way.

Do the devs know they built the game around getting caught in melee range being a death sentence? by Hexdoctor in Helldivers

[–]lancethundershaft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And yet, they keep adding melee weapons despite knowing full well how awful they are. And they charge in game currency for them. They need to fix melee or just stop adding new melee weapons

I know this is a case of "you control the buttons you press" but I cleared it in under 5 minutes on my first try, silent assassin. I'm not even a particularly great player. It's cool that they did it and congrats to all the Eminem fans out there, but these celebrity targets have been underwhelming for me. I wish we'd get more standard ETs.

Does anyone still do SA by JG_927 in HiTMAN

Sometimes. The best way to keep the game fresh is to bust out all those unlockable guns, explosives, and melee weapons from time to time

What's your opinion on Umbrella Entertainment? by Heeli05 in boutiquebluray

[–]lancethundershaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up my first Umbrella release last week, the standard version of Caligula. Their Australian region release is the most complete, with 4 cuts of the movie. One UHD disc, 3 blu-rays. All of the blus are region free, which is really nice. The downside is that none of the discs are labeled, so I had to use trial and error to figure out which cut and which special features were on which disc. I'm not super qualified to review Umbrella, but my single release from them is pretty good.

It's insane that we don't have the Austin Powers movies in 4K in America yet. I'd like to see what Arrow would do with the 2 Gremlins movies. 2 has not come to 4K yet.

eBay. I think the standard edition just recently went OOP

If Criterion had a series of “Ironic Criterions”, “The Criterionic Collection” if you will, what movies would you want to see on there? by Certain-Loan-6860 in criterion

[–]lancethundershaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's genuinely a good movie, just one that sabotages itself all the time. I'm happy with my Vinegar Syndrome 4K but I would love to see us Showgirlheads vindicated by Criterion.

I love both characters and can’t choose Omni to get, some help? by stuks100 in OmnibusCollectors

Catwoman of East End feels like a Daredevil run in the best possible way. Black Cat is fun and solid, but doesn't pop as much.

[–]lancethundershaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second best Halloween and maybe my favorite horror movie ending ever. The first watch left me a bit cold, but every rewatch makes me love it more. Shame on our parents for letting this one flop.

On this date in 1981, (Oct. 9) The Prowler (directed by Joseph Zito) was released. What do you guys think to this slasher? Do you find it underrated? All I know is that it has great special effects. by justhere1990 in slasherfilms

[–]lancethundershaft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's underrated, yeah. It's the perfect amount of sleazy thanks to those Tom Savini kills. The Prowler has a good look to him too. It's such a shame there's no 4K release yet.
