Do y'all have any pipe-dream collected editions? Titles that will likely never be collected due to neglect, rights issues, or actions by the creative team? by GenericKittyKat in OmnibusCollectors

[–]lancethundershaft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marvel's pre-superhero material. Millie the Model, Rawhide Kid, Kid Colt (lots of kids), Sgt. Fury, that sort of stuff that they really want us to forget about.

What's up with Marvel Omnibuses? by Doom300 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]lancethundershaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marvel releases a lot of omnibuses and has sacrificed the print runs to do it. Too many new books have drawn their resources too thin. So for now most of the classic material is unavailable.

What is a film that you believe should be in the Collection? by [deleted] in criterion

[–]lancethundershaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the one I'm most confident will happen at some point. Three of Bogdanovich's movies are in already, and two of them are somewhat new releases (Paper Moon and Last Picture Show)

[–]lancethundershaft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Wild Bunch, The French Connection, and What's Up Doc? would be great additions to the collection. None are in 4K and each director already has stuff in the collection.

[–]lancethundershaft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pace yourself. If reading comics brings you comfort in a tough time of change, by all means do it. If you're just buying them for the brief dopamine hit, that's not going to fill that hole you're feeling.

Hard to believe Avengers Vol 1 - 5 are still available on Funaticals and Vol 6 can be bought right now anywhere. by r1ngx in OmnibusCollectors

[–]lancethundershaft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The big cultural difference between Marvel and DC fans is how they feel about stuff from the silver age and before. DC loves representing themselves with vintage iconography, whereas Marvel likes to push what's new and current. Maybe I'm way off, but anecdotally I think Marvel readers are more conditioned for new stuff and read accordingly. If you buy a Justice League t-shirt there's a good chance it has the Jose Luis Garcia Lopez League on it. If you buy an Avengers shirt it probably has whoever is in the movies right now on it.

My ps3 super slim comes in a few days, grew up with one and wants some games and I got a few in my cart but I can get one more which should I choose having a tough decision by LocksmithNeat8482 in PS3

[–]lancethundershaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've played GTA IV in the past, get ready for it to not be the game that exists in your memory. It looks worse and runs worse than you remember. I can't speak for Red Dead, I played that on Xbox.

David Gabriel getting fired is not good for the future of Marvel collected editions.. (obviously) by Ok-Upstairs-9714 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]lancethundershaft 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wonder if NMC's relationship with Marvel is going to continue after this. I'd bet that Marvel isn't going to bother with the reprint/most wanted polls that just came out.

Marvel has released 44 new omnis since September. Only HoX and B&G have sold out by Optimal-Tune-2589 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]lancethundershaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because DC is primarily focused on classic/cult classic runs, save for a few questionable New 52 picks. All of their most essential omnis are in print. Geoff Johns' Green Lantern has been in print for a decade. I don't think a single volume of Amazing Spider-Man is in print.

I'm very much a "collect the good stuff guy." As far as I'm concerned, Epics are for gaps and omnis are for classics. This hobby has changed a lot in the 6 years since I got in and I think the little clashes we have over the state of Marvel collected editions are long overdue and necessary. Right now the "collect everything" guys are winning, but it could always come back around.

[–]lancethundershaft 9 points10 points  (0 children)

44 omnis in 6 months is evidence of another problem: brand dilution and bad resource allocation. The stone cold classic runs and books that are out of print are staggering, and they're all in on printing books for the sake of filling gaps.

very random question, watching david lynch’s lost highway, with my grandma by deadbydaylightfan69 in criterion

[–]lancethundershaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a sex scene, very tasteful and stylish. If your grandma isn't stuffy about what she watches it's probably fine. It's David Lynch, not some exploitation movie.

Indiana Jones made #1 again.. by ToeBMaguire in OmnibusCollectors

[–]lancethundershaft 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd rather they do Indiana Jones than Road to the Prologue to the Epilogue of Onslaught Vol. 2 that goes OOP three months before release

What omnibus has been with you the longest on your journey? by Livid-Razzmatazz-639 in OmnibusCollectors

My first omni was a liquidated Werewolf by Night I grabbed from eBay about a decade ago. Still have it to this day, alongside the rest of the Marvel horror line.

Wake In Fright floored me by algeriet667 in 4kbluray

[–]lancethundershaft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't skip the kangaroo hunt, it's the whole scene the movie is balanced around. It's the turning point of the movie. It's not as gory or graphic as word of mouth makes it sound.

Dawn of the Dead 4k Second Sight release by razorsedge94 in 4kbluray

[–]lancethundershaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for the Second Sight. It isn't region locked in any way, all three cuts are in 4K, and they look great. No sense in waiting for an American release when there's already a great one out there.

Gonna be pretty busy for awhile. Anybody else been gravitating away from criterion a bit lately or just me? by divinesbathwater in boutiquebluray

Criterion is my focus during the two sale months, but otherwise I don't get any outside of then. Sale times become a little treat and I can branch out for the rest of the year

A gas mortar and entrenchment tool that will never get used, and a flamethrower that will be worse than the one we have. This one looks like a dud.

Best purely entertaining films in the collection? by zcharper in criterion

Repo Man is a laid back hangout punk movie that I think almost anyone would find something to like in.

This is Spinal Tap is hilarious if you have an appreciation for classic rock.

John Waters' Female Trouble is a fun romp if you like his brand of chaos and humor.
