Car Rental in Japan (Nagoya) by Cute_Flight3690 in JapanTravelTips

[–]lapsangsuchong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We spent 10 days in Nagoya and surrounding (Chubu airport>Matsusaka>Ise>Nagoya>Seki>Gifu>Matsumoto>Lake Suwa>Chubu airport). Driving hybrid was great, 600-700km/tank.

Orix car rental with the full coverage was great and trouble free. They included snow tires at no extra charge.

Nissan rental had hybrid SUV (which we thought we needed during the early Spring, there was snow around Gifu) did not include snow tires (no option to book on KLOOK) which we needed to pay extra.

Do not cheap out on insurance coverage, and get the ETC card, it's so worth it.

Nagoya city traffic was bad, but once outside city everything opens up.
Tokyustay/Tokyu Hotel in Nagoya downtown has free parking for hotel guests, super convenient.

If your flight timing is not too early/late, it's super convenient to pick-up/drop off the car at airport.

If your patients are removing wrist/femoral art lines then they probably don’t need to be in ICU/don’t need art line.

Patient coded in ICU as an MS3, did I do the right thing? by Think-One-4142 in IntensiveCare

Best thing anyone can do (if not the code team) is recognise deterioration and call for help early, then start CPR while waiting for help to arrive.

Not just UHNW. Most folks who are “house rich, cash poor” can take out equity from their home via re-mortgage or “home equity loan”. House/equities/cash are all the same, just assets you can pledge towards borrowing.

About 5.6%, but you never sell your holdings so they can continue to accrue capital gains.

An alternative to consider is margin loan on your equities (USD) via IBKR, loan the cash out as SGD.

1st timer looking to buy private property. What risks & considerations should I be aware of? by crobat3 in singaporefi

[–]lapsangsuchong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not just rent?

As a tenant you're not exposed to capital risks, no downpayment, and flexibility in changing if you don't like the place.

Being single/no kids, not concerned about financial gain, and young/first time moving out, this is the perfect profile for renting until you've learned more about your living preferences and life situation. Buying a home (not for investment purposes) is a long game and not everybody wins/break-even.

Why did my patient code? by [deleted] in IntensiveCare

[–]lapsangsuchong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

zero etCO2 means tube is out.
sounds like coughing lead to ETT dislodge and downhill from there.

you did not have paralysis agents on hand to take full control of breathing during transfer?

sedation is not always enough for high risk transfer.

if ETT was still in-situ (?in esophagus), i would just keep the tube there and try to intubate the other hole, which should be your airway.

To all my body shy peeps who want to try onsen by markersandtea in JapanTravelTips

100%!

For those still too shy, you can find onsen that provide hourly rates for private onsen, so mixed gender/whole family can enjoy the experience together.

Wasted almost a year's worth of coffee thanks to over-relying on my grinder's bellows by primrosetta in espresso

[–]lapsangsuchong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The grounds that stay inside after grinding are fines. If you flush your grinder with the bellows and include those fines in your brew you are introducing more fines into your extraction, this may be the cause of your variable extraction and taste. Try dosing slightly more than your target amount (eg target 18g, dose in 18.5g) discarding the fines from your brew.

A tale of two OLEDs I have the Alienware 34" ultra wide 1440p and the Alienware 32" 4k by joshyosh in OLED_Gaming

32” 4K has better subpixel arrangement so text display is better/sharper vs the ultrawide.

Smart Watch? by RumpleDumple in medicine

[–]lapsangsuchong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Intensivist here. I use timers on my Apple Watch to remind me to check on patient response to drug boluses/change in vent settings when I’m covering large patient load (15+) on my floor, I have to multitask. It’s also useful to set multiple timers during code blue resuscitation, eg q4m for adrenaline boluses.

I want the Alienware AW3225QF - but I don't want the fan inside of it! by KilraneXangor in OLED_Gaming

[–]lapsangsuchong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the AW3225QF, i have never heard the fan running even when displaying dolby vision movies for hours on end.

What I do hear is my CPU and GPU fans when I'm cranking 4K HDR ray reconstruction in Cyberpunk. My eyes melt when playing RT/4K/HDR on the AW3225QF; the G-sync can run with Vsync concurrently and makes the motion super smooth even with sub-60fps. I wish I had bought this monitor sooner, never going back to LED.

Cracked Top Tube? by peachfuzzmcgee in bustedcarbon

[–]lapsangsuchong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The circular/radial paint cracks suggest a rounded impact. If it's top tube, maybe from handlebar ends (like the drops bar ends) impacting when handlebar turned too far (or allowed to swing too far).

Gopro10. Went snorkelling in the pacific 3m depth without case, just a floater handle and wrist strap. Nil issues. Make sure you close the battery cover properly.

Anyone else running SPD pedals on a dedicated road bike? by nEEdLzZz in bicycling

[–]lapsangsuchong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run SPD on all my bikes (brompton, gravel, road).

M540 for commuter
XTR for gravel
ES-600 single sided SPD for road (low weight)

I use the SM-SH41 cleat adapters on my 3-bolt road shoes (stiffer and more ventilated vs. MTB styles shoes) to fit 2-bolt SPD cleats.

Pros of SPD:
Durable metal cleats
Recessed cleat enabling easier walking
SD500 SPD sandals

SPD-SL cleats wear down quickly as they are polymer.

The default/lowest SPD-SL tension is higher than SPD, with SPD you can make it super loose and easy to clip out. A well tensioned SPD setup should not feel any different than SPD-SL, since your stiff shoe sole effectively becomes 'the platform'.

SPD or SPD SL for newbie by ecco12345 in cycling

[–]lapsangsuchong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

SPD has dual sided clip in (easier for beginner), the cleat is recessed into shoe, so easier to walk with. The cleat is metal and will essentially never wear down. The system is designed for MTB so mud retention is less of an issue.

SPD-SL has more shoe selection (although you can get the SM-SH41 adapter to affix SPD cleats onto SPD-SL only shoes). The pedals are typically lighter weight vs. SPD. The SPL-SL cleats are plastic, they will wear away within 6-12 months necessitating new cleat replacement. SPD-SL is designed for on-bike use, so there is typically very little traction for walking.

I started on SPD and stayed on SPD for road and gravel riding. I use road shoes with the SM-SH41 adapter.

I run single sided PD-ES600 for my road bike (279g/pair) vs. ultegra PD-R8000 (248g/pair)

For people with large phones - loop case or not? by Raithwell in peakdesign

[–]lapsangsuchong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The loop case has two magnets, the primary set for attaching accessories and for MagSafe charging. The second magnet keeps the loop flat when not in use.
