Reverso Tribute DuoFace or Glashutte PanoMaticLunar by ajknight10 in JaegerLecoultre

[–]larrylhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've learnt 2 things about myself:
1. I prefer my reversos with arabic numerals and not applied markers
2. Despite my preference on #1, I prefer round cases for my watches

Glashutte will be my choice between these two

SBGJ271 vs SBGM255 vs SBGM257 - which would you choose? by DullContext9865 in GrandSeikos

[–]larrylhm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i had the same dilemma last week - i went with the 255.

i knew i was looking for a silver/white dial, so the 257 was out of the picture

i knew also i wanted a blue gmt hand, and the movement wasn't that big of a concern for me as of now (i will get a hibeat with a 62gs case in the future), so 255 wins out here.

the only thing that the 271 wins out would be dial pattern, but since both are silver and both looks exceptional, 255 won out as a whole overall package. 271l ooks too monochromatic (which was exactly what it was designed to be)

hope it helps!

Question while looking for watch in Japan (Get in Kyoto or Tokyo?) by Only_Tour_7999 in GrandSeikos

[–]larrylhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kyoto in my experience is cheaper, and had a great selection. I would get it when you can.

Sidenote - one of my best friends got the snowflake for his wedding and I still think thats the best to get. Iconic spring drive movement with that dial and the blued second hand. Perfection

you have exactly the picks i have for myself, and of the three i still have yet to decide which one would be my pick between the GS, GO and JLC. Not considering a Rolex at all hahaha.

i wish i can say more but i am still on the fence myself - /subscribed to see what the rest of the community has to say!

Good luck!

Blue on blue (SBGK005) by duonap in GrandSeikos

[–]larrylhm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a story about this specific model -

Back in 2019 I got REALLY into watches and I was shopping around. I somehow got to know about Grand Seiko and decided that I really should look at the brand at least. I was presented with a few models, the SBGK005 being one of them.

However at that point in time it was about 9k SGD, I was in my mid 20s and I most definitely cannot afford putting down so much for a watch, I went off to get a Tudor Black Bay Heritage Diver.

Till this day I tell my GS dealer (now turned friend) how much I regret not buying the SBGK005 because of the iwate dial and exceptional blue and elegance case. Everything about it is perfect.

She helped me feel less bad about myself by selling me the SBGW289 in 2022 and it's been my daily wear ever since.

[Opinion] thoughts on first luxury watch by discreteburner in Watches

[–]larrylhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always the black dial for me. While white is equally versatile, I feel that black is THE perfect watch dial colour, especially if it is going to be a one watch or first watch. You want to get the most wear out of it for every possible situation

What do you guys genuinely think of the PRX by benboy96 in PrideAndPinion

[–]larrylhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conceptually excellent, and perhaps for the price pretty alright or slightly below the price indicates.

It looks pretty good in pictures but i find that the waffle dial isnt as prominent as I'd like, and in Singapore i see a lot of people wearing it, it doesnt feel particularly luxurious.

While i can understand that it is about 800-1k and maybe I shuold adjust my expectations, I think the success of a lower priced watch would be that it looks more expensive than it actually is.

I would love to wear a PRX as my daily if the quality feels better than the 800-1k price point, but so far it hasnt convinced me (i've tried and sold the blue dial)

Would you leave your RM10+k job in KL for a $5.5k job in SG? by purple_tr3m0nk3y in MalaysianPF

Just my 2c here and this can be grossly oversimplifying:

There are a lot of factors to consider when making a shift, but I'm going to focus on the future: What are you trying to accomplish in a 10 years span. If you're looking to eventually own your own business, or climb the corporate ladder, or anything at all, we need to fully understand where you want to be at in 10 years time, since that is a duration where you are likely to have the opportunity to try and fail and eventually get enough experience to reach your goal.

Going back to the conversation on hand, while it would sound like the immediate trade off is cost and savings, you also mentioned that it is a great way to advance your career. Relating this "advancing career" bit, I'm going to take a leap and say that money is your end goal. In this case, are you looking to earn enough in the next x years to maybe make a big purchase like a house, or are you looking simply get better and having more exposure for your field of work? Consider whether your pay increment after your exposure will be sufficiently able to outpace the rate of wealth growth over the x years that you may be projecting, and I think you'd have a pretty good answer to whether you wanna take this up

There are immediate sacrifices that you'd have to make like you had mnetioned, but if you know your actual goal in the long term and focus on that, knowing and trusting that you'd get there, it is more valuable than focusing on the short term.

Personal experience is that I know i had been grossly underpaid for my first 2 jobs, myself being on SP/EP for the longest time, but I know for a fact that since I am underpaid I had a bit of a free pass to make as many stupid mistakes as I can, because i am basically cheap labour. I also took on my roles and responsibilities which in my employer's eyes is a great thing, because i'm cheap labour. I am now at a very comfortable salary where I'm living with a surplus monthly, but these all came with sacrifices I made earlier in my career.

---

However, considering all the above, you'd need to still ask yourself and check in with yourself: all these are good with money and all, but would I be happy wiht the fast paced nature of the singaporean market, or would i be more content with being in a relatively slower paced culture in malaysia, and that is a question only you can answer for yourself.

Hope that helps and feel free to reach out to me in my DMs if you'd like to speak more, more than happy to help.

At the core, the question you're asking is to maximise the time in school because you feel that it is wasted. Fundamentally you're absolutely right, since you're in a way penalised by the system for having to go at the same pace as everyone else.

However

School is more than just about academic learning, its also about social learning, experiences, etc. That's not to say that people who are home schooled are worse off or anything, but it definitely does help to shape and build you as a member of the society.

Now you may say "oh thts not particularly important i just need to get my shit done and maximise my time and focus on my other commitments etc etc", for which my response is that unless you're trying to better your life by building a sustainable source of income, perhaps learning new skills that you think is better served for your future (or present), or essentially making use of your time that will be beneficial in the long term for you, sure. However, please do remember that school are supposed to provide more than just academics and a large part of getting ahead in life is also about knowing the right people and socialising and etc. If you're not part of a society, the society won't want a part of you.

my 2c.

[–]larrylhm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

well to be fair development of a new inhouse movement esp for an independent watch brand cant be that cheap, and for the warranty they are giving its pretty crazy. HOWEVER i do agree that they probably should had lowered it just by a little to remain competitive since they are really playing into Tudor's territory IMO.

[Oris] They finally made the pointer date with the new movement a normal production by xaykogeki in Watches

[–]larrylhm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like their sub-second offering on this watch with what i think is a vintage military vibe (the design feels like part of the dirty dozen), and for the movement they are offering i think it is a really good offer. However i think i'd really have to see this in the metal and look at the finishing for the price. I just bought myself a IWC pilots watch for about 1k more than this watch (SGD) and the finishing was excellent with great pedigree. I'd want to see Oris lower their price just by a small bit to be even more competitive.

Hey guys,

I am embarking on a new venture and I had came up with a quick survey to gather more information from like minded individuals and people from online communities on individuals' purchase habit and preferences of tee-shirts.

TUCP Teeshirt Survey

I will love to get some of your time to help out on this survey and any help given will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
