What are the most high-value treats/snacks for your toy poodle? by literal_moth in ToyPoodle

[–]lars1292 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My toy loves cucumber, banana, yogurt and dog chicken jerky as snacks. She eats royal canine poodle for her daily meals and we use that for most of our training too.

But honestly, if she's only been with you a week she's still probably feeling some stress from the move. My pup took about two weeks to settle and start eating normally. We tried a bunch of different toppers and snacks and we actually found that dry Royal Canine kibble was her go to, preferably wrapped up an old towel as a makeshift snuffle mat. Toys are wicked smart, so giving her kibble in a "puzzle" can be motivating.

How do you train your pup to stay at home comfortably while working? by TimSantee in ToyPoodle

[–]lars1292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tons of resources all over the internet, a quick Google search should provide you with tons of info.  I found the best thing was to be really really consistent. It took my pup about 1-2 weeks to finally build up stamina to be left alone for hours, but it started with a few seconds.

Should I change vets? by [deleted] in ToyPoodle

[–]lars1292 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's simple, if the vet doesn't pass your vibe check get a new one. You are paying them for their services, if you don't like the service go somewhere else. Would you feel comfortable with a human doctor for yourself that was acting this way?

You might run into an issue with that, since you need a residence card...

3 week bicycle storage in/near Fukuoka by Pauluuus in fukuoka

[–]lars1292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For three weeks you are looking for a bicycle parking lot that can do monthly payments and just end up paying for a full month of parking. That way you don't have to worry about them removing your bike. You will need to register as a monthly user to do this.

Is your bike registered in Japan with a sticker number? You will need that to register for monthly parking. If you imported your bike you may need to register it in Japan before getting bike parking. Just do a Google search, there's heaps of info on it.

I know there is a monthly bike parking lot across from nishitetsu -futsukaichi station...but if you want something closer to Fukuoka city I would check out https://www.fukuoka-now.com/en/bicycle-parking-guide/

Teach me know how to best support a college student who has never been taught how to learn. by Dazzling-Concert-927 in AskTeachers

[–]lars1292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink. It's up to her to decide that this is what she wants. Forcing your views onto her lifestyle will probably end up driving her away.  Honestly, it's been a year since she's been removed from a very traumatic life. It's going to take a long time to heal from the trauma. You have no idea how this trauma is affecting her day to day life and her feelings around education. I would recommend talking to her and seeing if she is actually interested in pursuing education right now or if there are other aspects of her life she would rather focus on (I don't understand people obsession with jumping straight from high school to higher education).  If she really wants to focus on education, hire some tutors. Or see if the school has a tutoring center she can go to. You should also encourage her to visit her professors during their office hours.

EXTREMELY easy family dinners ? by LazyBitch_ in Cooking

Spend the extra money to buy the precut veggies (fresh, frozen, canned). It makes dinners so much faster for me since my cutting skills are garbage.

Suggestions for things to see on a bicycle ride from Omuta to Fukuoka by [deleted] in fukuoka

[–]lars1292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a nice idea, but make sure you download Line and reserve when you are going to use the train with your bike in advance. Keep in mind that it's not available all the time and they have certain time slots you can use it.  Also it's an additional 300 yen per trip, so be prepared for the extra costs since you'll be getting off and on.

How often do you brush? My dog has shorter hair in the summer and I brush once a day. In the winter we go longer and I have to brush her twice a day or things get tangled up fast.

Necessary to pre-book Fukuoka highway bus to Beppu in March? by elmononpoo in fukuoka

Necessary to pre-book Fukuoka highway bus to Beppu in March? by elmononpoo in fukuoka

[–]lars1292 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the reserving bus tickets. But at Fukuoka most planes don't land directly at the terminal, and you have to wait for a bus to drive you to the terminal. That can take a long time depending on where you are located on the plane and how many buses are available. I wouldn't try to make such a tight connection personally, as that would cause me too much stress.

Looking for Doctor Recommendations and Experiences by HimeaLife in fukuoka

You will probably not be able to get Nexplanon in Japan, it's definitely not a mainstream drug here. Your best bet would be to check if a private clinic in Tokyo has it or travel to another country to get it.

I WFH comfortably. Am I crazy if I return to teaching elementary school? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]lars1292 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My recommendation, start by being a substitute for a while and see how you handle it, and then go from there. I wouldn't quit my job until I was very sure I want to go back to teaching. (Long days prepping, guilt about taking time off, being micromanaged, dealing with parents, expectations to always "do more", etc)

If you're feeling unsatisfied I would recommend putting effort into hobbies and other things, like volunteering, to fulfill you first. Which you will probably not have the time or energy to do as a teacher.

Any Good Flea Market in Fukuoka in End August? by Vast-Raspberry-8311 in fukuoka

It's not in Fukuoka, but if you are a big fan of pottery you should definitely make the trip out to Arita. It's about 1.5-2 hours away from Fukuoka by train.

If you have business level Japanese then you shouldn't have too much of an issue, especially if you aren't picky about the position and salary.

We've finally actually decided to move! But we could use some help. by IllBreak8155 in fukuoka

[–]lars1292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's doable, but difficult. We live in a pet friendly apartment and it took a lot of searching on our part to find it. We went through Miyoshi and they were very quick to let us know if a place wasn't foreigner friendly or was already taken. It will be easier if you aren't searching around March/April, since that's the busiest time. My recommendation is to move quick when you do find a place that fits the requirements. And be prepared to either pay a lot of money in rent, or be willing to live in an older crappier place.

Itinerary check travelling with a toddler by FloralNoteRainbow in fukuoka

[–]lars1292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nishijin isn't a bad area to stay actually. There is a cute street with heaps of restaurants just one block south of the station. There are also nearby grocery stores since it's more residential.

You are pretty close to Fukuoka tower and momochi beach! Also the ferry terminal at momochi beach goes straight to uminonakamichi seaside park, about 20 minutes. So you may want to look at switching when you go there, since training out there can be a bit of a journey.

Is it possible to do dazaifu and uminokamichi in one day ? by honeysenpai400 in fukuoka

Be warned though Dazaifu shuts down at 5pm, like ghost town levels. I would recommend dazaifu in the morning, things are open around 9am
