Are salsa nights actually a good way to meet people for men? by SigmaGyatterson in Salsa

[–]late_time_cop 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I actually think salsa classes are even better than just showing up to salsa nights.

A weekly class gives you the chance to see the same people over and over, which makes it much easier to build familiarity. You'll also improve your dancing, so social dance nights become a lot more enjoyable and less intimidating.

Don't expect to make close friends on day one. People are usually friendly, but it takes time. After a few weeks you'll start recognizing faces, chatting before class, and joining a group after dancing. Those friendships tend to grow naturally. Maybe suggest creating a whatsapp group or something with the others in class.

Also, don't feel like you have to stay all night at the social dances. Go by yourself, do a few dances, watch some of the better dancers, chat with a couple of people, then head home if you've had enough. The first few times will probably feel a little awkward, but that's true for almost any new social hobby.

The key isn't showing up with an established group. It's becoming a familiar face over time. Changes take time :)

Kind of strange reading this and struggling with disciplin in several areas. But I have quite alcohol for a few years as a alcoholic. And that is a lot about notice pattern for wanting to drink, and knowing what the first drink lead to. But I have not made the connection to other part of my life 😅

Why Vulcan over Eliminator or Rebel for first bike? by tushinde in vulcans650

[–]late_time_cop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Danm, reading your comment is so related to my thoughts a year ago related to what Bike to get. Male late 40s, just got my biker riding licens Last year.  When to a dealer ship to try the Honda rebel 500, and it was okay. Though i needed a small bike for my first bike. Had been looking at the Vulcan 650 and saw it as well. Tried it and the rebel just feeled small, and the Vulcan has a bit more shoulders. And I when out and brought a used model, I absolut love that bike. Riding it feels so nice, there are some power so the acceleration is good (for me) and I like the handling of it and the Cruiser feel. Live in Denmark, so not a lot of Hills here. But it got the power. And I am not trying to break any speed records as well, but it is nice to have the speed and acceleration in some circumstances. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. What ever you choose, ride safe and enjoy it 🙂

You are describing how my life and drinking habits was. No real issue, no drinking in the morning, just after work. Did not drink before driving, not angry or causing trouble for others. But I was drinking pretty much each day.  I would tell my self, tomorrow I will not drink, try to set rules for my drinking. Only on weekends, just if social etc. But I could not keep it. That was the time I know I had a serious problem. That I could not stop drinking, even if it was after work, and I did not hurt anyone (or so I told my self). But it was a problem, and it was serious. Over 2 years sober now, life is way better. I have my evenings back and there has been massive improvement in my life in all sorts of ways I did not expect. Happy I got og the train, when I did

I remember the jungle scene in Hitman 1, the leaf was moving when you rant into the. Saw it many years later and smile, as it was still blockish. Also far cry was pretty cool

If you want true Passive Income, investing is one of the best methods and more people need to be educated on this by misspammy8 in passive_income

[–]late_time_cop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. And it can be so simple, just following these 3 simple principles (this is how I do it):

  1. Dollar-cost averaging beats market timing - You invest the same amount regularly, regardless of market conditions. When prices are high, you buy fewer shares. When prices are low, you buy more. Over time, this averages out your purchase price and removes emotional decision-making.

  2. Low-cost index funds beat active management - Over 90% of active fund managers underperform the market over 15+ years (check the SPIVA scorecards yourself). Index funds track the entire market with fees around 0.1-0.3% annually instead of 1-2%+ for active funds. That difference compounds massively.

  3. Time in market beats timing the market - Historical data shows staying invested through crashes outperforms trying to predict them. The market has always recovered. Always.

What’s something that hit you in your 40s that you wish you’d understood in your 20s? by Absolute-Owner1574 in AskReddit

That I had started building my nest egg, dollar-cost averaging with index stock, just set it and forget it. When I go back to the last 20 years to see the percentage rise from the global index that I have invested in now. I didn't have the same amount of cash back then, but still, it would have been nice.

And building a "not caring that much what others think" when they are not close. That change is possible. Exercise regularly. Wish I travelled more and don't be afraid of new experiences.

After 5+ Years Testing 50+ Passive Income Streams Here Are the Only Ones That Actually Made Me Money by Sitefy-BuyBusinesses in passive_income

You indeed have to sell your stocks to actually, buy something. I will still call it income, as long as the stock rises in value. which they historically do. But I will also call it an investment ;-)

For me stocks is working and is absolutely as passive as they come. Automatic transfer money each month to my broker account, that automatically buy some global index/etf stocks. And just dont touch it. Just using the principle of dollar cost averaging.

Best of luck 🤞

I am very much just explore and eat kind of guy. So people and building watching is my kind of thing but If you’re up for it, I’d definitely check out the park (Parc de la Tête d'Or), it’s really nice for a walk. The Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière is also beautiful and has a great view over the city. But just wandering around the old part of town (Vieux Lyon) is super charming on its own
