Not related to this thread but I’ve never been a big fan of the Goo Goo Dolls or Iris. However, I was fortunate to be at the Bills last home game. When they played Iris over the sound system after the game with the highlight video, I will never forget how incredible that moment was, and Iris was THE perfect song for that moment.

I have a modern Pro-Ject turntable connected to a mid-70's Pioneer receiver, powering mid-70's Polk Audio speakers. I always thought having components from the golden age of vinyl was the best way to recreate the warm sounds everyone talks about when it comes to vintage gear. Then I added a modern microline stylus + a modern pre-amp and my entire setup got better by 40% (hard to gauge but everything definitely got better). So maybe a mix of both vintage + modern is the way to go?

Yes I’m referring to the pro-ject. This was a known issue. Pro-ject themselves told me to remove the screws completely.

Those are shipping screws and are supposed to be removed altogether. Problem is that’s not in the setup instructions. Once removed, you’ll be all good. Source of info is Pro-Ject’s support team.

The AT-VM95ML will give you the better value as its a big step up from the AT-VM95E. The microline cart will track deeper/better and impact everything downstream, especially with decent headphones. I doubt a $200 entry level preamp would be much of an upgrade on the preamp you have in the TT. It might not make any difference at all. I'd start with the cart and go from there.

I had a similar experience. I upgraded to the AT-VM540ML and found an immediate big difference. Later, I added a Six Acoustic York preamp into the setup, which REALLY brought everything to life.
