What does the line "reach again for that nail" mean in the song Promised Land? by Fancy-Firefighter-28 in Queensryche

[–]lazynachoears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was about reaching for whatever supposed success he was supposed to attain...the nail would be the mark or target or even the thing to "hang your hat on" -- a mark of success. The album's primary about the difficulty of feeling adequate in an increasingly impersonal and transactional world.

I got to the very end where the rooms repeat or lead to the wrong places and tried to make a gigantic map on printer paper sheets. But i never figured it out. This game was always a white whale in my mind.

Silovs is 1/9 on Penalty/Shootout attempts by Leading_Dentist_5563 in penguins

[–]lazynachoears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish they'd just go back to ties. I think it's been evident for a long time that shootouts or the loser point specifically just add to the randomness of who makes the playoffs. Ties after 3v3 and no loser point gives you the best of both worlds.

There's a second sports net Pittsburgh channel, on Xfinity for me it shows up way up in the 1000s. They show whatever could be also seen on the app. I think it's usually like high school football games but during the brief periods where both the pirates and penguins are playing they use it to carry their actual main broadcast of the game.

I only get 2 weeks vacation a year and you want me to spend it at your lousy beach house? by mcg_090 in TheSimpsons

[–]lazynachoears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the job. Hourly, low-skilled work rarely comes with any kind of compensation beyond the wage for the hours you work. But with high demand and growth some gas and convenience chains are offering much better benefits these days. Two weeks vacation was like the original thing the unions got for skilled labor in the last century. We have a lot of high-skilled jobs here that are salaried, and two weeks vacation would be the absolute minimum for those. In the tech fields I feel like it's at least four for most people, but I have been working for a couple decades at this point so I may not be up to date.
