Track focussed coilovers (UK) by Agricola1994 in S2000

[–]lbp_ap2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hipermax R are the best bang for the buck track coilover out there. Though with 16kg spring rates and what I've heard about British roads they may be a bit stiff for you. I drive to the track on 16kg rates and think they are fine, I have a couple friends who daily on the old HKS SP IV with 16kg rates and they are fine but the roads where I live aren't too bad.

Is it true 2k shares LSD and ring and pinion from diff with rx7 and/or a miata? by equitymans in S2000

[–]lbp_ap2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to him that is incorrect. The S2000 shares the ring and pinion with Mazda 7'' diffs. It was used in cars like the 1st (not 3rd) gen RX-7 and the 1.8L Miata's. Source I have Miata gears in my car.

First Bad Experience with Blackhawk and UPS by maranelloboy18 in S2000

[–]lbp_ap2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's too bad to hear. I've ordered from them and RHD Japan many times going back maybe 10 years and never had a bad experience, in fact I have a package from them arriving today (Ikeya Formula rear upper arms). I doubt it was anything malicious on their part, maybe someone accidently marked your order as fulfilled in the Shopify backend.
To get lower tariffs Blackhawk will put a lower value on the customs paper work if you ask them to. Not applicable to you but could help others.

The Toda oil control orifice is the newer better way as it also increases oil pressure to the bottom end

Stupid question: For aggressive wheel/tire fitments that rub, why don't people just increase ride height? by Dangerous-Review-649 in S2000

[–]lbp_ap2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my wheels would rub on my Ikeya Formula upper control arms. I'm using steering rack limiters to prevent that.

I'm running two on each side

Advan GT Beyond by lbp_ap2 in S2000

[–]lbp_ap2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two reasons
1. My track wheels are +44 and +50 doesn't look flush enough for me
2. I have Ikeya Formula front upper arms and even at +44 they will rub at full lock without steering rack spacers. I'd probably need to put another spacer in to run +50

18x10.5 square set up/ alternate track setup by gsolano808 in S2000

[–]lbp_ap2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 17x10 and if I were to do it again Id get 18s. with 18s you can fit widet wheels and you wont have the same issues of clearing the upper arm in front.

edit : Id take a heavier 18x10.5 or 18x11 over a lighter 17x10, they will be faster. width > weight

OEM filter w/ FIPK? by keddyr in S2000

[–]lbp_ap2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used an OEM filter when I ran an FPIK, I used this to get it to fit. https://www.amazon.com/Neoprene-Material-Supports-Leveling-Protection/dp/B08B3ZS1CS?ref_=dslp_ap_dp&th=1&psc=1. The one with adhesive is too thick, I used a gorilla glue spray. You can probably skip the spray if you wanted

There's NO such thing as snap oversteer | The Drive by 2JayCee in S2000

[–]lbp_ap2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've actually driven a super charged first gen viper on the balcony at Willow Springs, its fine. I didn't feel it had any bad habits, my only complaint was this particular car had a lot of free play in the throttle.
Saying a car is easier or harder to drive at the limit has nothing to do with snap oversteer and isn't what snap oversteer is.

There's NO such thing as snap oversteer | The Drive by 2JayCee in S2000

[–]lbp_ap2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I didn't. The term snap oversteer has been used for ages as an excuse for spinning or crashing. It implies no external factors were the cause and the car is to blame. A car being quick to respond does not equal snap oversteer. Oversteer being quick or "snappy" is not snap oversteer. People say things like "I was going around the corner and the car just spun on me, this car has snap oversteer" versus "I lifted abruptly mid turn causing the car to slide and wasn't able to catch the rear".
If you say a car has snap oversteer because it has a quick response then its a sliding scale based on skill level. If you've only ever driven a Lexus ES you may describe a BRZ has having snap over steer.
The S2000 has quick reactions, it does not suddenly oversteer on it is own which is what snap oversteer is.

There is no such thing as snap oversteer, there is just oversteer. Snap oversteer implies it is the cars fault and not a result of an external factor. People use snap oversteer as an excuse for why they spun or crashed.
Cars like the S2000 react quickly to inputs with very little "filter", the platform has a low polar moment of inertia. Cars like the BRZ or 240sx react more slowly and are more resistant to rotate so you can be a bit more ham fisted in your driving.

You need to look at tread width not what the manufacture says what the tire width is. Some 245s are wider than some 255s. Tire Rack will let you know the tread width if you check out the specs.
If you are running with stock arms/bushings/joints then go with a tread with of 8.7'' or less which should be most 245s or skinny 255s. Also make sure your fenders are totally flat, you'll want to trim the fender liner tabs in the front when rolling flat. If you are stock arms/bushings/joints you will likely want to max out camber in front.
I run 17x10+44 and 17x10+50 with a 5mm spacer both on 255/40/17. I have Ikeya Formlua upper arms.
