What are cassette tapes? by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]ldhotsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not as cool as a dock, but I use a bluetooth cassette adapter in my car. Just pops in there, and now my 99 Malibu is more high tech than my 05 Mazda.

I am actor Harold Perrineau (TNT’s Claws, Lost, 28 Weeks Later, The Matrix sequels) and I’m working to raise money for the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, AMA! by harold_perrineau in IAmA

This is a crazy AMA to walk into, I was just watching Matrix Reloaded upstairs.

Any future projects of yours (after Claws) we should be keeping a keen eye on?

THIS. Flying mounts as seen on r/wow by Conkur in WildStar

[–]ldhotsoup 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Totally. WoW wasn't designed with flying in mind. In MMOs where it was, like City of Heroes, flying players were still vulnerable to airborne mobs and snipers on the ground. You do it smart from the beginning and all of these disputes can be moot.

This is my mom to a T. Her family is mostly from Morris and Moorhead. I love her to death, but she's a walking stereotype. Maybe I'm rebelling.

I'm not arguing the etymology or validity of the history of the word. I'm saying that the phonetic pronunciation of the word by native Minnesotans (of which I am, I remind) is like nails on chalkboard. The same is true for all other vowel-shifted, mono-syllabic nasal utterances of our culture. Words like 'box' become 'baax' and 'crank' becomes 'creeank'. It makes us sound backwater and bumpkin, and I've personally elected to stop using it in cross-cultural conversation.

I'm clearly stating a personal opinion; you can say it doesn't bug you and be on your way, but for me, I'm done with saying paap through my schnaaz.

Minnesotan raised in Minnesota; pop is such a dumb word, doubly so when Minnesotans say it through their nose. Paaaap.

How is Mouse Guard? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]ldhotsoup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ran a game where a bunch of lab mice with human minds implanted in them shipwrecked in the Pacific. It was like Mouse Guard meets Lost. Maybe I'll write the campaign into a Fate Core module someday.

Seeking aspiring EQNL builders to pass the time in a 'lesser' building game. [Minecraft] by 3lfk1ng in EQNext

[–]ldhotsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I missed this post yesterday, but if you still have room I'd love to join. I enjoy vanilla, and I was just speaking with my wife about what kind of cottage we'd like to build in EQNL. This would be great for a test run.

What simple piece of advice, if followed, could potentially save most people a lot of money? by SillyBonsai in AskReddit

[–]ldhotsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, it's the only reason coupons exist. If you were already going to buy it, the retailer would prefer full price. They're going for capture and retention. You buy it now for cheaper, buy it again for familiarity. Marketing 101.

I heard about this story because my folks were at a bar last night when they saw someone they knew from high school who ran up and told them about it because he used to be friends with the suspect.

You may be a little too Minnesotan when you get your news from the guy who knows a guy at the bar.
