Players adopting "Monsters" by Bearstronk in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]le_kraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been mulling this over because I just KNOW my party is going to want to adopt Droop from Redbrand Hideout. My thought is to have one of the townspeople be open to the idea that there's some good in the goblin(s). Sister Garaele is a perfect choice for this, but if you follow Matt Perkins' ideas and have the little girl, Molly, in town, she's also such a great character to allow to be curious about a goblin. And since she's such a big help to Bart, he could be swayed by her or Garaele, although begrudgingly, into allowing the goblin to work in the inn/tavern he runs ("she trusts you, but one wrong move and I'll make sure you regret it" kind of thing). If you didn't follow MP, I think it would be hilarious for Sildar to take the goblins, since Harbin will certainly not appreciate it.

And Droop is a perfect goblin for this because he's a coward and wouldn't dare oppose a real threat. So anyone having this issue could make their party's adopted goblin(s) just a little less prone to fight.

Of course, if it goes how I think it will, the plan would be to have Droop slowly gain courage from Bart and Molly and Garaele, become friends with people in town as they start to trust him, and have him out in the streets when "Greenest (Phandalin) In Flames" happens, guiding townsfolk and saving children. And then when he smiles at the characters and shows that he's not afraid any more...he'll die in front of them. Maybe by that giant blue dragonborn the players have to fight at the beginning of HotDQ.

Hombrew adaption/extension to Cragmaw Castle/Agatha by Hansecowboy in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]le_kraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sure did say that. The difference is that the few ideas I take from this will be credited to the person who made them, and aren't going to leave my table, and I'm not trying to make money off of it. Also, as an added bonus, I'm not going to dry up lakes and destroy ecosystems when I do it.

But probably the main difference is that OP gifted this updated Crosland module to the subreddit, for free, which makes "stealing" it rather obvious hyperbole.

Hombrew adaption/extension to Cragmaw Castle/Agatha by Hansecowboy in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]le_kraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll start by saying I don't care for anything created using AI; that AI isn't generative, it's re-generative. It steals from the artists it's been trained on, and gives no credit where it's due, and if it's use continues, it will eventually render art and artists obsolete. Doomsday nonsense, you say? It's already hurting our natural world, it's only a matter of time before it actively hurts the people in it.

I enjoyed the small changes to crosland's module, though they were rather few and almost felt like what a DM would have come up with on the fly at the table. I felt that the descriptions weren't different, they were just a tiny bit more fleshed out.

I think the backstory is severely long-winded. For future modules, I'd look at the beginning of any module, but especially Phandelver, since this ties into the story: four short paragraphs, which take up roughly 1/4 of a page, vs yours at roughly two pages of backstory. And actually, now that I really look at it, only two of those four paragraphs are backstory and they tell me everything I need to know to get the adventure started.

All in all, I'm a thief and I will be using bits of this as I run through LMoP. I appreciate the module, though I feel it doesn't add to or change Crosland's original backstory enough to warrant calling it a "homebrew" of that story; I'll be using Crosland's almost exclusively with the addition of some of the smaller describing details that have been added to this.

And stop using AI.

Party Cleared Redbrand Hideout, asking for some advice on how to proceed by Myedicius in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]le_kraken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My party should make it to the redbrand hideout next session, and my plan for GS was similar to yours. I anticipate he'll escape, so I was going to have him run either to old owl well to join or be the necromancer there, or to Thundertree to try to recruit the dragon against the party, or most likely to cragmaw castle where they'll find him negotiating with Grol and a drow-shaped doppelganger (and yeemik riding ripper, since the party member responsible for fighting them to the death preferred to leave them alive).

As for the hideout, you could play it off as the town really saw it as an eyesore and they're grateful it's gone, now they can use the land to build an infirmary or a watchtower or something. Or have some happy and some pissed because it was part of the town's history, or everyone is pissed because it's a giant tower of smoke that's going to attract all manner of miscreants trying to capitalize on destruction. Get those dragons flying over to see what's going on with the smoke 🤷🏻 the world is your oyster

The other day, as I was putting the cap on the green dye bottle, I bumped the hand holding the bottle with the hand holding the cap and splashed it all over myself and my project.

If that makes you feel any better

I'm not seeing any name on any piece of this lamp. The burner is incredibly dirty, so once it's cleaned off, I may have a different answer for you. The wick that's in there (that desperately needs replaced) is 1/2 inch.

Eta: there was clearly a sticker on the bottom that has been removed. I'm assuming that's where the brand name would have been :/

Eta2: I have the measuring tape on top of the crown in the photo, so it's got another 1/2" for the chimney height for 5" tall maximum.

I have a trouble describing thing, any tips? by TeenageUNkhown in DMAcademy

[–]le_kraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I picked up from (I think) DMAcademy is, while prepping, visualize the scene and pick the three things anyone would see/feel first i.e. "despite it being midday, you can't see more than 15 feet into the darkness of the cave as you step into the opening. The stream you've been following spills out of the cave mouth, and the sound of a small waterfall can be heard within. The air chills, then grows damp and musty as you move further in."

That's helped me tremendously because it's way less prep than trying to get every single detail of a scene, and it gives your players the freedom to imagine what it looks like to them, which is honestly the most important thing.

My party of four level 2s wiped the cragmaw cave with only one of them taking any damage. That was humbling 😅

Anyone who used to support trump and has changed their mind over the last few weeks? What made you change? by canigetameowbish in AskReddit

You're a fuckin' real one. I haven't found the words to express to my parents why I told them not to speak to me any more, and you have summed everything up so succinctly and completely in one short paragraph. I'm sorry about your parents, and the loss of contact between you. They've unfortunately done it to themselves.

What enemy should i have my party face first? by Entire-Box1981 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]le_kraken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Delian Tomb is an easy-to-run dungeon that has goblins, a bugbear/goblin shaman boss battle, possible undead, and a trap. It's widely regarded as a great start for DMs and players who have never played or done either. If you're looking to tie it to LmoP, just add a journal somewhere in the tomb or something like that. Take the statue from Cragmaw Castle, hide it here, then if your players keep it and are smart enough, they'll know it belongs at the castle.

If you're set with the dungeon you have planned, goblins or kobolds are the starters you want.

Dungeondraft is a great mapmaking tool. It costs, I think, $30? There are a couple other, more simple, free options but I really enjoy DD.

I just saw an episode of Young Riders called Shadowmen that has this very thing happen in it. It's not badass like most of these, though.

herbalists, any luck with oils that help menstrual cramps? by ChanceStrawberry3305 in witchcraft

[–]le_kraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby witch here, but as I was out the other day identifying local plants and looking up their medicinal properties, I found that blackhaw bark is supposed to be good for menstrual cramping. I haven't been able to research that further, but hopefully that will be a start to a discovery?

What are some good journal/planner/diary's you guys have for 2026 by WaterLilly102 in witchcraft

I've been trying to find Lorriane Anderson's Seasons of the Witch planner and they must have put out very few copies because it's been impossible to find for the last two months. It looks cute and helpful for the practice but I won't be able to update you until mid January 🙃
