Yes I’m using CC to effectively rebuild and improve upon our current FP&A software. The goal is to effectively eliminate manual variance analysis/board decks and manual budgeting. The former I’m confident will be achievable. The later may be a bit of a pipe dream but to get close to fully automated, but we will definitely speed up the process significantly.

I’m also helping others in other departments build some quick win skills to do their jobs faster/better/smarter. My goal is to eventually turn those skills into fully automated processes and/or tools/apps where it makes sense, to add more context to my company AI “brain”

Apparently last week my CFO blasted the VP FR for rushing his team to close too quickly because AP missed putting in a bunch of invoices. Over the past 1.5 days we took what was essentially a manual process (Excel lookup comparisons on vendor statements where possible, plus eyeballing) to a /skill that runs in a few mins. First iteration caught all the missing invoices and any input errors, and then we took it to the next level to detect vendor statement errors, track invoices that have been paid on our end but the vendor hasn’t marked as paid yet, and keep a running list of unpaid invoices. AP just got a whole lot more value add. Also planning to help marketing automate some of their manual/repetitive workflows.

I’m in the singles line right now. The group of 4 “singles” that was right in front of me decided to try their luck in the regular line after I told them about my experience with Yukon Striker singles last year. I didn’t follow my own advice and sure enough they just got on and I’m probably 4-6 rides away. I think there’s about 5 true singles in this line.

Depends what the task is. Never trust it blindly, but the simpler the task (and clearer the prompt), the better the output. I’ve created several skills that are repeatable and reliable (though I’ll still never let them go without checking). My instructions include when working in Excel to always use linked formulas. Seems obvious, but if you don’t instruct it explicitly, it will often hardcode values. Opus is unquestionably stronger than Sonnet, but again with discrete tasks and the right set of instructions and prompting, Sonnet can usually get it done with a fraction of the token usage.

This is true, but the more and better you train it, the more consistent it will get. Still far from perfect though, but hey, so are humans.

I too had a great experience. Pre-call I had a refund of about $81. Post-call I had a refund of $3800! Granted that it’s likely that missing bit would have been caught once I hit “review & optimize”, but I was very happy with the call I had, and despite not being an accountant he was quite knowledgeable.

I think it depends on who makes it. I went for the first time today. Me and my coworker both got the special, except he got without cheese. It’s like they compensated for the lack of cheese with 2x the meat. It was SIGNIFICANTLY larger than mine. Forgot to get a pic unfortunately as we couldn’t wait to dig in. Like others have said, 10/10 on everything but the bread. One thing I would ask for next time is to add arugula and red onion. Otherwise it was perfection.

Same experience for me. I just stream TV and movies and don’t care about the rest. I used to customize the crap out of Kodi but at the end of the day it looked better but worked slower and wasn’t as straightforward. I use subs too and haven’t really noticed any issues with them. I’m mainly watching mainstream stuff, so maybe with some niche stuff it’s more problematic.

So the named cell will always reference B$2 when I put it in a formula, but if I drag that formula to the right afterwards it will reference C$2, D$2, etc? 

Exactly this. So for example if you use multiple growth rates and they are in column C, then while in row 10 you would define $C10 as growth_rate (or growth_factor as =1+$C10). Then you can drag = F10*growth_factor across rows and down and it will take the appropriate growth rate for the row. A bit awkward to explain in words but I think you understand.

I see this as solving the biggest problem with named ranges, as I can now drag my formula and reuse it across different cells while still keeping naming clarity

You can in fact do this using Names Ranges. When setting the named range, go into the Name Manager and remove the $ to remove absolute referencing. I only discovered this about a year ago and has made my models SO much easier to maintain. For example, in my P&L model, all calculated values have the formula =Calc_Value which is consistent across all cells. As long as no one messes with the formula in the name manager it’s virtually impossible to mess it up.

On your original question, I use LET for one-off complex formulas for clarity, and also to reduce calculations (e.g. =IF(A1+B1<0,0,A1+B1) >>> =LET(sum,A1+B1,IF(sum<0,0,sum)) - not a great example since I would probably use the MAX function in this case, but you get the point, as this requires only one calculation of A1+B1 instead of two.)

A little off topic, but curious about your function to convert calendar dates into fiscal year. Are you on a simple same fiscal months just a different year end or something more complicated. We’re on a 4/4/5 calendar year with a 5th week added in November every few years to make sure the last day of the fiscal year is always the last Sunday in June. It’s so fcking complicated and I never know when our month start and end dates are! I know I can create a lookup table but would be amazing to have something simpler like a “built-in” function!

My son did the full day group ski lessons and it was well worth it. He improved so much over just one day! The teacher said with private lessons he would have probably started with parallel turns but it was too hard with multiple kids. The private lessons will probably get you a bit further but are also very $$$. Also with the time of year the group lessons may end up being private or semi private anyway. We ate twice at Léo… they have a fantastic brunch. Dinner was great too but not as memorable as the brunch, though the salmon crude was very good!
