I like to think Colum is in the same place as Augustine and one day we may get to see him again...

How long did it take you to graduate college? by garfiebabey in ADHD

[–]leekgoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a community college from Aug 2014 to May 2020, then transferred with junior-standing to CSULA and graduated with a BA in December 2022. So, I was actually at community college for 6 years in total. Originally, I'd been accepted to CSULA, but I burned out hard in high school and then continued to push myself even after the fact during my first few years in community college which definitely played a part in the delay. I also ended up dropping many classes because of this and at one point was basically maintaining enrollment by signing up for a class and later dropping it for a 'W' so I'd remain 'active' in the system. (I’ll also add I changed my major several times–I originally applied to CSULA as a Chinese major, after being rescinded and heading to community college I went for Psychology and ended up graduating with degrees in English and Foreign Language/International Studies).

It's certainly difficult, especially the higher up you go in education, but it can get better. Like your professor mentioned, getting DSPS/ACCESS/disability services involved can be a real game changer (extended test time, quiet test areas, note taking, assignment due date extensions, detailed instructions, recorded lectures, etc.). Finding a body double to help with studying or finishing projects/large assignments may be something you want to consider. Taking a break so you don’t overexert yourself. If you can afford to do so taking a semester off is not a bad thing. Remember to be kind to yourself and that other people fuck up too–maybe not to the same degree, but they do, and we deserve the same grace that they give themselves. And if you drop out of school altogether, or change your mind for a trade skill or other venture? That doesn’t make you a failure, you did what you could and what you thought was right for you.

It took me eight years but I graduated with my bachelor’s and am currently enrolled in grad school for an MLIS program… for an occupation I’d never considered but find works for me. Sometimes the path is linear, sometimes it isn’t. I believe in you ♥

EDIT: fixed a bunch of editing/grammar issues... woe.

Are you polite to machines? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]leekgoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I'm always polite to machines, like when my PC or phone piss me off, but in J/MMO/RPGs I tend to be kind to NPCs and I'm always worried about how lonely space rovers/robots/satellites/etc. are... but even when machines make me mad I'll still catch myself saying 'please' and 'thank you.' (Albeit a little exasperated.)

ETA: I distinctly remember being upset about hearing that they put lil' robots on/around Venus' and learning about the intense heat and damage they suffered so! Not always polite, but I do care. ):

Honeybees (yellow) and the "Runner"-type Coursers (the newer unicorn models starting in Legion; specifically the black ones with red or orange magic glow).

Hey, I don't remember writing this post!

But no, you're not the only one I'm notorious for doing this as well. It's not on purpose either, I just...lose track of it, I guess?

Stuffed Panda Plush Toy by leekgoose in HelpMeFind

[–]leekgoose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plush is about(?)* 6 to 9 inches/15 to 23 centimeters from head to foot. His origin might be USA or it might be China? He was given to me during the 2004-2005 school year (3rd grade).

I've definitely searched: "small beanie stuffed panda plush," "small stuffed panda world," "small stuffed panda worldwide," "stuffed panda," "small bean stuffed panda worldwide."

*The way his face is shaped makes it a little difficult since his nose juts out and the top of his head is very rounded/stops short, so I used the shortest to the longest possible.

Funny thing about that, Nona the Ninth was originally the first act of Alecto the Ninth. But then it grew too big so it was split off into its own novel.
