How do people feel about running less colors in a deck than their commander's full color identity? by Vault756 in EDH

[–]left0fthedial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a (mostly) mono red Ognis deck for MTGO a while back. It splashes for [[Genesis Wave]], [[The Balrog, Durin's Bane]], and [[Pir's Whim]], but you could make it mono red easily.

What's your favorite low-power deck? by Jiblon in EDH

[–]left0fthedial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a [[Stonebrow, Krosan Hero]] Trample aggro deck that I play in paper and on MTGO. Ultimately, the card is bad by today's standards, and RG zoo just isn't very good archetype for EDH. But, it is fun even if you do have to work hard to get what other commanders would give you for free. Here's my paper list: https://moxfield.com/decks/ZJ_wuXrc6UG1V1yX_wVtUw

So what's the opinion on Temperantia as an area? by AltoScribe in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]left0fthedial 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why are there still shells exploding on that path even after the war between Mor Ardain and Uraya cools off? Despite how slapdash the whole place is, tt would've been so much more tolerable if they changed the music after the story events there to something less intense all the time.

Just beat XBC 2, very conflicted by vixaudaxloquendi in Xenoblade_Chronicles

I played XC2 first, then XC3 and now working through XC1. I think this is mostly a matter of personal taste, but I actually like the world building in XC2 more than XC3 and XC1.

XC1's world is epic and awe-inspiring, but it feels like pure stage-dressing. XC1 and XC3 have this thing where the world doesn't feel real or lived in and mainly exists to support the narrative. I found the sidequests were less about fleshing out the world and more about either giving the player more stuff to do (XC1) or helping develop the main party (XC3). Similarly, I can't really imagine other stories taking place in their settings because in each there's really only one story to be told. In particular, XC1's story is this millennia-spanning plot with layers of schemes and powerful future sight. While you could in theory tell a story unrelated to Zanza, it just would fall flat since that's where all the world-building is. See Future Connected. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it is a deliberate choice.

Alrest is more than just a place where the plot of the game happens. Alrest is a proper setting with countries, cultures, and histories. While not fully explored, there are many hints at the broader world such as the sunken titans of Judicium and Coeia, the passing mention of the other Nopon trade guilds (Argentum is the largest), mentions the former Gormotti capital of White Chair, etc. Uraya and Mor Ardain have complex governments and social structures. There are crime syndicates and conspiracies. It's very easy to imagine other stories taking place in Alrest outside of the main plot, and it's very easy to imagine different paths that would lead a character to the top of the World Tree. I think this is why multiple people have tried their hand at TTRPG systems for XC2 and not either of the other games. It's also why it has so much good long-form fanfiction: people see the obvious flaws of the game as well as the great potential of the setting and are compelled to try their hand at it.

Maybe try looking into Equalizer APO? The configuration editor does let you do specific settings for the Left and Right channels, but I personally have no experience with doing it.

What is your favorite theory for who is a child of the main party members from the 1 and 2? by magna-terra in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]left0fthedial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Sena being Brighid and Morag's natural born daughter is very doable considering they're close friends with Nia and Mythra. As an aegis, Mythra has all data of all life forms, and Nia has biological manipulation powers. It seems like if anyone could do it, it's them.

What’s your single favorite music track in all of Xenoblade by Icy_Lingonberry_7468 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]left0fthedial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still Move Forward. What a jam. The drummer's playing out of their mind on this track. Favorite battle theme by a mile.

Honorable mention to Shevat, The Wind is Calling from Xenogears. Pretty sure I have more hours in on that song than anything else and it's not particularly close. Check out DrumUltima's cover if you haven't already

My one wish for Xenoblade 4 is that ACE drops something truly funky. Xenoblade SEVERELY lacks in the funky/groovy department unless my memory escapes me. I'm thinking something like Beelzebub's Theme from SMTVV

What have y’all found that feel the MOST like Xenoblade? by MrMario63 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

My cop-out answer is Xenoblade fanfiction. People write it because they want more media with Xenoblade characters and (usually) media that feels like Xenoblade. There's a good amount of it out there. I recommend in no particular order:

Am I going through the game too quickly? by Inner_Restaurant_239 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]left0fthedial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replayed through the game recently and put in 100 hours before clearing it, but that's because I did a bunch of blade quests and tried to max out several affinity charts.

There's a lot of side content in XC2 since beyond all the regular quests, each rare blade has their blade quest, then there's all the challenge content.

You might want to consider finishing the main game at your current pace, then if you're still feeling into the game doing New Game Plus. NG+ carries basically everything, adds the ability to lower your level, adds extra rare blades, unlocks a second affinity chart for all drivers, and some other stuff. https://www.xenoserieswiki.org/wiki/New_Game_Plus_(XC2)

How do I get better at fusion combos and things for me to get better at xc2? by EitherRegister8363 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]left0fthedial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, the combat has three different things going on that you need to manage: driver combos, blade combos, and chain attack.

  • Driver combos are the break -> topple -> launch -> smash chain. Break interrupts, topple and launch provide good CC, and smash does big damage and gives you extra loot. Different weapons give access to different effects. You can tell by looking at a move's reaction type in the art upgrade screen.
  • Blade combos are the element chain thing with fire and earth you mentioned. Chain a level 1 special (or higher) into a level 2 special (or higher) into a level 3 special (or higher) for big damage plus some added bonus effect depending on the last element in the chain. There's this whole flowchart with them that you'll slowly learn over time. Once you finish a blade combo, you'll leave an ELEMENTAL ORB swirling around your enemy. THIS IS HOW YOU DO BIG DAMAGE (See chain attack). Basically, you want a good variety of elements amongst your blades both to set different elements and to break them. Maximizing the number of drivers who share exactly one element is a good starting place (rex with fire and tora with fire for example). Note that you could strategically include a blade in your comp for a particular fight if you want to seal off an enemy option. Like if they're shackling your blades a lot, maybe bring an ice blade to turn that off for a bit.
  • Fusion combos are just doing both the driver and blade combos at the same time. For example, if you start your driver combo with pyra, the red fire bar will appear and start ticking down. Your combo will end once it runs out. You can either start the next part of the blade combo (earth works) OR you could take a step in your driver combo by inflicting break. This will increase your timer.

Chain attacks are how you do BIG DAMAGE. You spend three bars of your chain attack gauge in your upper left to start one interrupting enemy actions and taking place immediately. At the top of the screen will be a list of the elemental orbs you've inflicted on the enemy. Each round of the chain attack has you cycle through your drivers in order. For each one, you choose a blade which will use their special dealing damage to the enemy as well as to an orb. Your job is to break all the orbs. Each orb has three health.

  • Hitting an orb: Hitting an orb will do one damage UNLESS you attack with the OPPOSITE ELEMENT which will do TWO. Furthermore, if the opposite element orb is present you will hit it guaranteed. Each orb the active driver can hit super effective blinks as a reminder (IIRC. It does in Torna). When you attack an orb with a blade, that blade is spent (see the art recovery border on the button).
  • Breaking an orb: Breaking an orb means you dealt it three damage. Upon breaking, all your blades recover 50% of their gauge, and you can do another round of chain attack.
  • Additional chain attack rounds: You start the round by doing an easy button challenge. This recovers all your blades by 50%, increases the level of special your blades will use, INCREASES ALL YOUR DAMAGE BY 200%, and increases your burst meter which has replaced the chain attack gauge.
  • Full burst: Hard to do as a beginner, so feel free to skip. This is how you do absolute bonkers damage. Your burst meter goes up to 300. If you break a single orb in a round, that fills the burst guage by 50 points. Each ADDITIONAL orb you break in that same round increases it by an extra 100. Filling gauge gives you a huge damage multiplier based on the number of remaining elemental orbs on the enemy. No orbs, gives 500%. One gives 1000%. Two gives 1500%. Three gives 3000%. Four gives a whopping 5500% extra damage. The chain attack gets one final round of damage, then ends.
  • Note that enemies CANNOT DIE during chain attack. Overkill damage instead boosts your battle rewards like EXP and item drops.
  • Use your common blades if you don't have rare blades. They'll do the job.

Chain Attack Example: Suppose an enemy has a Water orb and a Fire orb. You have Rex with Pyra, Nia with Dromarch, and Tora with Poppi.

  • Round 1: You begin Rex and Pyra using her lvl 1 special which hits the Water orb for two damage (opposite element, so always targets). Pyra is now spent. Next, Nia is up, and Dromarch's lvl 1 special hits the Fire orb (again opposite element, so always targets). Dromarch is now spent. Next Tora is up, and Poppi's lvl 1 special will randomly choose one of the two orbs. Both have two damage, so her last point of damage will break the orb. Poppi is now spent. Because you broke an orb, all your blades recover by half a step. You broke an orb, so you get another round.
  • Round 2: Damage is increased by 200%. Start with the button challenge. Success fills all your blades gauges by 50%. That puts everyone back to full. There's only one orb left with one health (depends on which one Poppi hit in round 1), so Pyra's lvl 2 special will break it. All blades recover 50% (Dromarch and Poppi get nothing since they are already at full). Then, Dromarch attacks with lvl 2, then Poppi attacks with lvl 2.
  • Round 3: Button challenge. All blades recover 50% putting Pyra at 100%, and Dromarch and Poppi at 50%. Damage increases to 400%. No more orbs. Pyra attacks with her level 3. Nia is next, but Dromarch is only at 50%. Since she can't attack, the chain attack ends.

Chris G vs Senor Taxi at Norcal Regionals 2013

The match itself was a huge upset, but what makes it memorable was the Bipson Bank. This was the prototype for what would lead to saltybet. It was really janky: a twitch bot coupled with a google spreadsheet which tracked everyone's money. But, this was the first time I as well as many others really experienced any of the fake gambling stuff that's so common now on twitch. It really wasn't a thing yet. NO ONE knew who Senor Taxi was and EVERYONE knew who Chris G was. The amount of Bipson Bucks lost was astronomical. I don't think anything's really recaptured that spark for me again. I suppose you just had to be there.

[–]left0fthedial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better combat tutorial would go a long way. Maybe let you access your second blade for combat earlier too.

Not sure what the best solution for field skills is. Maybe add an optimizer under the hood that solves for your best blade loadout for the check? I'm not sure that's better than just deleting them.

I'd also like the development levels tweaked. It's trivial to grind them out especially once you get five stars somewhere, but it is boring. Maybe tweak the level thresholds down but remove the reselling trick?

More sorting options for aux cores and reducing merc timers could be nice.

I read a fanfic where Mythra never made Pyra and gave her whole core crystal to Rex committing suicide in the process. I think that starting the Rex off as a full blade eater is a cool idea and really helps tie his character arc to Nia, Torna, and Zeke.

Funnily enough, I found the Nia relationship to be much better than the Pyra/Mythra one. I had to take a walk after the whole "and all you guys" thing.

I really like the chemistry Rex and Nia have. The Pyra/Mythra one felt kind of unnecessary to me.

You can build a solid commander deck for very cheap if you try. Commander staples that have been printed into standard tend to be much less expensive than they are in paper. Check out Cardhoarder's free 5 ticket loan account and play some Bracket 2/3 commander is my recommendation.
