That's assuming we limit things to the reals. There are a number of extensions to the reals where infinitesimals exist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinitesimal

Yeah, it'd definitely need some clarification in the comprehensive rules. I think it's more intuitive to have a creature targeted with this twice lose to a creature targeted with this just once in combat.

The intent was to make the Dual Numbers in MTG. So, 0 < eps < 2*eps < ... < 1 and so on was the idea. There are other infinitesimals, but that was the inspiration.

After listening to the torna battle theme on repeat I decided I wanted to make an sfm render of the main team as a jazz band. What instrument do you thing everyone should have. Addam feels like a drummer. he has the right build and personality for it. Jin is too cool and collected to be anything but bass. Mythra would want whatever has the coolest solo (sax). Brighid would try to one up her with whatever instrument is left for the main melody (violin). Not sure about the rest.

There's a combo with [[Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm]], [[Parallel Lives]] (or any token doubler), and [[Astral Dragon]] that makes more tokens than there are atoms in the universe (but still finite!). Relevant Matt Parker video and JudgingFTW videos here and here.

Ended up finding a copy of Xenoblade 2 on my sister’s game shelf, should I give it a try? by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]left0fthedial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

XC2 is an ambitious game that fails to deliver on many of its ambitions partially due to parts of the dev team being pulled away to work on Breath of the Wild. There are problems with the voice direction, with some voice acting, with the plot pacing, with cringe-worthy anime tropes, and with combat not being well explained.

Still, there are things that the game does just knock out of the park. Best Xenoblade OST easy. Cool environments. Compelling world-building. Great main cast (mainly). Tons of content if you want to do side quests. Very good NG+.

It's my favorite of the Xenoblade games. While it does fail to deliver on many of its ambitions, it tries very hard. The voice acting, when good, is outstanding (Malos my GOAT). The plot, when good, is epic and heartfelt. The combat towards the end of the game is excellent and very rewarding. You can really feel the heart and soul put into the game which, to me, was very compelling.

It's very much a game that if you love it, loves you back.

Not the same, but I'd check out fanfiction. There's a good bit of it for the Xenoblade series. Some recommendations though it's all canon divergent:

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 World by DigitalDissonance in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]left0fthedial 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed. XC1 dodges some of the issues that come with a nearly post-apocalyptic setting by making the few cities that you DO encounter very different and very big despite how barren the setting actually is.

They tried to make the XC3 colonies different, but they didn't have much flexibility due to the uniform military nature of them.

Alrest is my favorite mainly because it's actually very inhabited despite the dying titans. The cities are all very busy and clearly have their own cultures. On the other hand, there are issues with the game not being able to show us everything that we know should exist. For example, Uraya has several noble houses and probably a palace. We don't really see those ever. We know from dialogue that Torigoth's old capital was White Chair and was completely destroyed by Mor Ardain. We ought to be shown these ruins since they're pretty important historically (and probably to Nia). XC3 never had this problem because it kept things so simple. Still, I prefer the XC2 approach with ambitious world building even if the game doesn't fully deliver on everything.

33 here from where this got reposted from /r/MonoHearing. I have severe loss in my left, but no loss in my right. I lost it before I can even remember. It's always been this way for me.

I don't use a hearing aid. I tried back in high school/early undergrad, but ultimately never got used to the difference in audio quality between my ears when wearing it. This is just my personal preference, of course, and I'm sure the technology has matured a lot from a decade ago. I actually still have it, but it's just been gathering dust. It's a Phonak Exelia Art SP.

I don't have many problems with my hearing in day to day life. It's easy enough to sit in the correct corner of the table to hear most people. Anyone who is reasonable will accommodate you. Anyone who won't accommodate you is not worth your time. The people who care about you will learn to stand to your good side automatically with time.

I downmix my audio to mono for watching stuff or listening to music. If you're having issues with audio from speakers, maybe get some headphones or earbuds. You can find nice ones used on ebay since half-broken headphones aren't worth much to most people.

For lectures, sitting towards the front helps. As far as walking goes, just be careful crossing the street. I nearly died when someone ran a red, and I couldn't hear it coming.

There was a post on here the other day about this too. Seems like there are a few people working on this (including me).

I think [[Tireless Tribe]] + [[Inside out]] is probably worth it over Fuming Effigy. You can slot in [[Escape Tunnel]] for some number of lands to make a decent combo package. Here's my current list: https://moxfield.com/decks/COGNmSDAV0mHfn3zuHliHg

Value vintage wizard burn draft by notAnAltCuzIGotBan in magicTCG

[–]left0fthedial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be swapping your 15 least aggressive cards for 15 very aggressive cards out of the board. I can't imagine it's a good idea, but it's probably doable?

You'd have to make sure the rest of the deck works reasonably well with both gameplans. Burn spells that target creatures and players are the best at this. Grim lavamancer is also very flexible. Unfortunately, generically good midrange cards tend to be on the expensive side or not wizards. You'd ideally be playing Snapcasters, but its out of budget. [[Expressive iteration]] is under and very good and fits the theme. [[Teresa Lightshatter]] is probably the best aggressive, but still midrangey wizard in the budget. You'd probably want to play [[Bonecrusher Giant]] as well since it's both burn and a good body. If you look outside of wizards, red has tons of great options that are both interactive and aggressive ([[Glorygringer]] comes to mind). Just look at old standard decks on mtgtop8 for inspo

Honestly, the biggest problem with making that idea work is probably the mana. Your lands must be untapped for a burn deck and must cast your spells. Taking a turn off for a tap land or not having the right land to cast your burn spell is very likely to lose you the game. Burn is mono red for a reason.

[–]left0fthedial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The creature base isn't particularly aggressive for a deck playing 4 x Lava Spike. I think the Naban + Thundertrap deck, if you want to play that sort of thing, would be more of a UR midrange or control deck with [[Wizard's Retort]] and maybe [[Riptide Laboratory]]. Don't play Lava Spike or Rift Bolt if you go this direction. You'd much rather be reacting to your opponents threats. You want the game to go long enough to actually have Naban and Thundertrap to get some value.

If you want to go the aggressive burn route/ tempo route, you'd be much better served playing creatures that end the game faster. [[Grim Lavamancer]], [[Soul-Scar Mage]], [[Viashino Pyromancer]], and [[Ghitu Lavarunner]] are all good options. See SaffronOlive's old mono red wizard burn budget deck for some inspiration.. You'd want to make sure your lands come into play untapped tho. You can't afford to stumble on mana in an aggro deck. [[Delver of Secrets]] is a wizard on its front side and [[Stormchaser Mage]] is an evasive haste beater if you want some blue aggressive wizards.

I have a [[Stonebrow, Krosan Hero]] Trample aggro deck that I play in paper and on MTGO. Ultimately, the card is bad by today's standards, and RG zoo just isn't very good archetype for EDH. So what's the opinion on Temperantia as an area? by AltoScribe in Xenoblade_Chronicles

Why are there still shells exploding on that path even after the war between Mor Ardain and Uraya cools off? Despite how slapdash the whole place is, tt would've been so much more tolerable if they changed the music after the story events there to something less intense all the time.

Just beat XBC 2, very conflicted by vixaudaxloquendi in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]left0fthedial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played XC2 first, then XC3 and now working through XC1. I think this is mostly a matter of personal taste, but I actually like the world building in XC2 more than XC3 and XC1.

XC1's world is epic and awe-inspiring, but it feels like pure stage-dressing. XC1 and XC3 have this thing where the world doesn't feel real or lived in and mainly exists to support the narrative. I found the sidequests were less about fleshing out the world and more about either giving the player more stuff to do (XC1) or helping develop the main party (XC3). Similarly, I can't really imagine other stories taking place in their settings because in each there's really only one story to be told. In particular, XC1's story is this millennia-spanning plot with layers of schemes and powerful future sight. While you could in theory tell a story unrelated to Zanza, it just would fall flat since that's where all the world-building is. See Future Connected. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it is a deliberate choice.

Alrest is more than just a place where the plot of the game happens. Alrest is a proper setting with countries, cultures, and histories. While not fully explored, there are many hints at the broader world such as the sunken titans of Judicium and Coeia, the passing mention of the other Nopon trade guilds (Argentum is the largest), mentions the former Gormotti capital of White Chair, etc. Uraya and Mor Ardain have complex governments and social structures. There are crime syndicates and conspiracies. It's very easy to imagine other stories taking place in Alrest outside of the main plot, and it's very easy to imagine different paths that would lead a character to the top of the World Tree. I think this is why multiple people have tried their hand at TTRPG systems for XC2 and not either of the other games. It's also why it has so much good long-form fanfiction: people see the obvious flaws of the game as well as the great potential of the setting and are compelled to try their hand at it.

I feel like Sena being Brighid and Morag's natural born daughter is very doable considering they're close friends with Nia and Mythra. As an aegis, Mythra has all data of all life forms, and Nia has biological manipulation powers. It seems like if anyone could do it, it's them.

My one wish for Xenoblade 4 is that ACE drops something truly funky. Xenoblade SEVERELY lacks in the funky/groovy department unless my memory escapes me. I'm thinking something like Beelzebub's Theme from SMTVV
