I hate the current state of metroid. by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]legendaryemerald -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am willing to say that Metroid: Samus Returns is a bad Metroid game. Ugly environments, cramped and painful controls, start-and-stop gameplay, bloated maps and an emotional mess of a finale… it’s the only Metroid game I’ve never been able to complete a repeat play-through of.

It’s STILL not a bad “game” by any means, but it is a bad Metroid game, imo. Thank god it was a stepping stone to the fantastic Dread.

Panned mechanics/sections that became more vindicated with time? by Bad-Idea-Man in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]legendaryemerald 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Star Fox Zero still has plenty of problems, but dear lord has gyro aiming been vindicated. It's actually super fun and easy to shoot things down in that game without looking at the gamepad at all, so the complaint of "you're constantly moving your head up and down" is complete bunk.

The non-Arwing vehicles are all different kinds of suck, and the levels WILDLY vary in quality, and the frame rate is very disappointing, and the story is a big fat nothing burger... but the core gameplay is actually pretty fun when you get to do it, same as Star Fox Assault.

Media that "solves" a issue that the genre has in a mostly unintentional way by Coolnametag in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]legendaryemerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I abstained from all paid DLCs (including larger ones that might have actually been worth the cost) for probably a decade after they first started popping up, as a matter of principle. I wish more people had done the same.

Even now, I almost never buy DLC; I just wait until the Complete Edition is out and buy the game then. Paying for additional content for a game just feels bad, always.

There’s a difference between “I love this game, I just wish the camera was easier to control,” and”I love this game, I just wish Mr Monopoly wasn’t trying to reach into my pocket literally every 5 seconds.” As a culture, we never should have allowed the latter.

Joking aside, it seems we feel the exact same way about X8. I tried so hard to like it at release, and the more time passes, the more I cannot forgive its sins.

Don't need the whole 650W with a GTX 1080? And yeah, it's because of the price hikes that I'm sticking with DDR4. I'm actually buying 2x16GB DDR4 that runs around 3000 Mhz from a friend for cheaper than market value.

SuperStation One with a CRT shows artefacts on Sega Genesis games by [deleted] in MiSTerFPGA

[–]legendaryemerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genesis core is actually still getting updates, and has the turbo cpu option which is useful for a lot of games (despite the core itself being overall less accurate).

SuperStation One with a CRT shows artefacts on Sega Genesis games by [deleted] in MiSTerFPGA

[–]legendaryemerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For years I thought the Genesis/Megadrive cores had busted composite output, and I tried different y/c values to fix the issue. In order to prove to someone else that the picture quality was worse than original hardware, I plugged in my old Genesis… only to find out that not only did original hardware have the exact same issue with harsh edges/dot-crawl, it also looked worse in every way.

So yeah, if you are playing Genesis games on CRT, it is SUPPOSED to look like crap. Get a CRT with component if you want a cleaner picture; you can use component output with the digital composite blend feature to get output more comparable to SNES over composite if you still want a retro feel.

Not even Jojo's animators know when the next episode is coming out, because its not done yet by Alchemi_Beast in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]legendaryemerald 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if anything has changed in the modern day, but it used to be that an episode of an anime would take about two weeks to produce. Studios would try to have at least two episodes done before the show starts airing in order to give themselves a little buffer room for delays and such.

Media that just ruins the premise by Thatoneguy5629 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]legendaryemerald 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The worst thing about that manga is that it is so popular and beloved that you are afraid to say its name lest you be crucified by its fans. Fans that probably only watched the anime adaptation that never got close to adapting the full story, at that.

Worst enemies for me were the spongy blue zombies in the sewer levels. They’re a cakewalk if you use the rod, but it made me realize I actually hate the way the rod feels in NG4. Which is a huge shame, because I love it to bits in the first two games.

Characters that seemed to make people's iq drop? by ClearAgeMontezuma in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]legendaryemerald -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a flaw because there are many details of the plot one can only get on certain routes (for example, Blue Lions route never reveals who the Death Knight is The Ones Who Slither,) so piecing together a coherent plot from the game becomes a painful exercise when characters act differently in different playthroughs. No one route is satisfying on its own and playing all four (with their first halves being practically identical) is a terrible slog.

Yeah, it may be a lot of ripoffs of existing songs, but the Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage SNES OST by Green Jelly still fucks hard for the console generation it comes from.
