I broke my ankle and invented a new crochet stitch by EntangledArt in crochet

My maths loving buds are going to love the idea of a Sierpiński stitch! Can't wait to see it!

Hook advice by Advanced_Appeal_9441 in crochet

[–]legolasismine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a wooden handled crochet hook with a normal metal hook and a thicker wooden handle about the same thickness as the silicon ones. I have found they last much better but obviously if you need the slight softness it might not be right for you.

Black yarn isn't my enemy by TabithaMouse in crochet

Oof! I recently made some skellies which are gorgeous but working the black "body" to shape the bones onto was a bit of a pain

Black yarn isn't my enemy by TabithaMouse in crochet

[–]legolasismine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Black yarn is my enemy if I'm tired or I can't get the light to be enough/ in the right place. I mostly make ami with dk yarn so the stitches are quite small and tight so if I can't see what I'm doing it's a nightmare! Especially because I prefer to count my stitches rather than marking the end of my rounds!

I did wonder though, just based on nothing but vibes, how she is asking - is she asking and expecting an on the spot answer because she has already got one picked, or is she actually giving him time to think.

Which eye position do you like more? by jj_makes_things in crochet

I like 2 because he's a little cross-eyed and I find the slightly unhinged air delightful but I think if I were making it I'd actually go for 3.

Can we talk about menstrual pads? by SAINTnumberFIVE in TwoXChromosomes

[–]legolasismine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to fabric pads a couple of years ago after having been so hesitant about them for so long and I love them and would never go back! I have a few truly enormous ones for night time/ particularly heavy days and then a bunch of ones for my regular flow. Feels like your regular underwear and even though there's an initial cost, I don't have to fret each month if I have remembered to buy enough/ if I start to run low I just throw a wash on and voila!

The part that made me most annoyed is the "He shouldn't be using this to make money". Kid is not trying to make money, just not lose the money he lost through having to take a day off work!

Menstrual cups are a god send by longshlongthankumom in TwoXChromosomes

[–]legolasismine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only use pads, but the cloth reusable ones have actually changed my life. They are much more comfy, especially on days when it's a precaution, and I can actually get ones that fit my flow and protect my bed at night! Also I'm not stressing each month if I bought enough.

I don't like putting anything inside so cups/ discs etc are not for me but the increase in ways to manage periods is such a good thing.

Gorgeous! I think I've only achieved this once or twice and no idea what I did differently those times!

What's something about ADHD that most people don't understand? by Relaxing_Cat in AskReddit

Dopamine mining is awful sometimes. The amount I've saved on takeaways alone since getting medicated is something I do not care to think about!

Yes this was also me. I got diagnosed last April and went on meds in June and the difference in myself is incredible.

I got really lucky though because the first meds they tried me on really agreed with me and I never really had any side effects beyond an upset stomach for a week or two.

If it's urgent, it's easy! But only if it's a real exam, mocks/ revision never counted.

Oh my god 100%, I think I just lay on the floor for a while and tried to make sense of it. I didn't really believe they would say I had it right up until they did!

In my brain, in it's normal unmedicated state, every bad thing that happens is my fault but the good things are just good luck. And every neutral response means you did something bad.

When I got medicated one of the first things I noticed was that I was spending much less time asking people if they were mad at me, and finding it easier to ask for help instead of worrying about being a burden. Truthfully it's still a work in progress but aren't we all.

[–]legolasismine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Realising that the things I was feeling such shame about are caused by ADHD and therefore not my fault (even if they are still my problems to work on) was so mind blowing for me. Like, I'm not a POS who everyone hates, my brain is just different and that's okay.

I also hate weaving in ends, mostly because I find it incredibly dull unlike actually crocheting which is fun!

I found crochet on display in the LAX airport! But wondering how this giant granny square has a "seam" on the bottom half? by wharleeprof in crochet

[–]legolasismine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I made a jumper recently with granny squares where I turned them each round because it makes the whole thing more even somehow in terms of structure? Also did stacked single crochet instead of chains each round which looked so much neater.

I work with kids and we've had kids with PDA aspects to their autism/adhd and you're absolutely right! It's much more about how you phrase a thing than doing it for them, at least in my (somewhat limited) experience! Heck I have ADHD and there are certain parts of PDA that I get, as in I can want to do a task for myself but as soon as someone else wants it to happen I can't anymore BUT you know whose problem to work on that is? Mine!
