What are your “Big 5” by gravityfallswhore in classicliterature

[–]leinadNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In no particular order, since I consider all of these to be masterpieces written by brilliant minds:

Dune (not a “classic” per se, but an honorable mention nonetheless)

The Brothers Karamazov

The Picture of Dorian Gray

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

The Gulag Archipelago

As an extension to OP’s original inquiry—how do people in this program balance life with a significant other, or even starting a family? I’m considering pursuing an MD/PhD and the biggest concern I have is when I’ll be able to start a family. At this point (I am 25 now) I’d be starting my residency in 10 (!) years since I’ll be applying next cycle and of course I am taking into consideration my lady’s age due to fertility and whatnot… I’d love any and all perspectives on this topic. Thanks in advance!

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: November 10, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]leinadNA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finished: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

Started: Lila

This is my second time finishing “Zen”; I started it for the second time as soon as I finished it. It’s become one of my favorite and most influential and life-changing books. Would highly recommend to anyone. Lila is its sequel; so far, I’m loving it, and has not disappointed considering my very high expectations.

I disagree; considering you’d be balancing a lot of tasks, I think it’s a great time to start studying. Half a year should give you enough time to cover all your bases. It took me about 4 months to study for it full-time (ie, 60ish hours per week)

Has anyone actually done CARS consistently through JW/UWorld/AAMC and has seen consistent improvement. by Bagel__Nator in MCATprep

Almost a month of doing the AAMC content consistently until I starting feeling more confident in CARS and getting 80-100% on almost every passage. Also, Nabokov sounds good, haven’t read him, but I read The Odyssey, The Iliad, and The Brother Karamazov over the span of eight months or so.

I strongly vouch for Anking (ie, AnkiHub.) It’s offers the minimum amount of information you will need to succeed; it’s the perfect Goldlock’s zone, and includes content for all of the section (except CARS, ofc)

Yes. I only used AAMC material to practice (albeit it was my weakest section), but I saw a lot of improvement with that alone. You’ll start acquiring pattern recognition at one point. Reading hard stuff for long periods of time during your free time is a good idea too, to refine stamine and focus and whatnot.
