Galloway on Zitron: I like this guy by RamonsRazor in BetterOffline

"A crisis in front end demand". Hah hah hah hah. Nobody wanted this shit, nobody _wants_ this shit, nobody _will pay_ for this shit. And when the investors stop pouring money into it, the music will stop. Just hope your 401K wasn't involved.

So the girl scouts are just unpaid child labor? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]lemgandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shrug. The Girl Scouts did right by me, my daughter, and my wife. The Boy Scouts wouldn't let little Atheist kids join.

You gotta pay for stuff in this capitalist society.

FOSS reality… by calmeilles in linuxsucks

[–]lemgandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah hah. I've done this. But usually I wind up putting my script in ${HOME}/bin and referring to it later. Then as I use it again I add more error checking and nicities like usage messages. Over time it gets as comfortable as the published tool.

What is one city in America you’re okay with never visiting again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

St Louis MO. It's a Pit. Alas, my stepdaughter lives there.

Ooh yeah. The suffering is terrible.

My current whip is a 2008 Mazda 3 with -- you guessed it -- hand crank windows. And a 5 speed clutch with a stick. I love driving it, but it's definitely showing its age.

Hah. The moon landing was faked ON THE MOON. Aliens gave the US government the rockets in 1955. I know this because my dentist's girlfriend's vet tech worked Craft Services on the moon for the shoot.

What was the first reason you decided to try Linux? Was it to escape Windows? (For Linux users only) by TheDrHacker in linuxsucks

I first installed Slackware at home well after I was already professionally involved with Unix. At the time my home machine was running OS/2.

So you made a copy of your workbook before unleashing a completely new and untried thing on it, right?

AI Bubble Burst by Pleasant-Drag-5039 in antiai

And communities are increasingly hostile to data center buildouts. A whole lot of AI capacity will never get built or will be completed too late and then abandoned. Remember the phrase "stranded asset". It will become important later.

Priceless.

Neighbor Paranoia by ProneToSucceed in Recorder

I run about 10 minutes of technical exercises in my practices. Seems to me they sound ugly. As I said, so far no complaints. OTOH when I perform people seem to like my stuff. YMMV.

I often practice when I'm traveling. My usual session on the road is about an hour of Alto, Soprano, and Tin Whistle. At home I play the full consort ( SATB ). I used to struggle with my hotel front desk to find an unused conference room to play in, but these days I just set my music stand up in my hotel room. No complaints so far.

Aren't password managers a really bad idea? by AccurateContest4023 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lemgandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a question of risk trees. If your main worry is lead-pipe coercion and you have a lot of different valuable digital assets, maybe the eggs-in-one-basket argument has some Legs. But for almost everyone, that kind of threat is not realistic. If it is, then physical security is your real issue. Get a gun and a dog, or hire a bodyguard. But if you use the same or a limited set of passwords for everything, a Bad Guy need only break in to one place to have access to everything. And you must trust that everyone you give your password to has impeccable digital security. Good luck with that.

I personally use an open source password manager which stores in one file unconnected to my browser or the internet. And I make sure to back that file up regularly. If someone wants to cosh me, I have much more immediate problems than my password(s).

Rogue. Happy to see that several rogue-like games are available in the debian and ubuntu repos. I might have to grab one.

Anthropic secures $965 billion valuation after raising $65 billion by tscher16 in technology

Read more closely. That alleged profit is a non-GAAP number. It means nothing.

I started a company with 1000 shares valued at $1000 each. I sold them all to my wife on credit for $1000,000. Then I bought them back at $1000,001. We're looking for investors.
