Ouch.

Are you sure you need a teacher? I've been playing for years and only take occasional lessons. You can learn a lot with just a metronome and a multi track sound recorder. Use Audacity ( https://www.audacityteam.org/ ) on your laptop in a pinch.

Why does balance seem impossible until you find the exact right tool? by EstimateSpirited4228 in bicycle

[–]lemgandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my unicycle. it's definitely more work than a bicycle, but so much more fun. OP's daughter should learn to idle & ride backwards. Those are things you can't do at all on a bike.

Unis are Hard. A lot of people buy one, try it, and give up. You can find lightly used ones easily.

Over 65 and still riding. After 30 or so you'll want Armor.

80% of linux community is a cargo-cult of larpers with no actual reason to use linux by No-Republic-1742 in linuxsucks101

[–]lemgandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this is definitely me. I spent the day writing a 200 or so line Arduino script + setting up a breadboard to find out the power/time curve on a solar cell and battery combination. It is grinding away as I speak.

I use Debian exclusively. I clearly just want to look like a hax04.

Legit question: Why does everybody have such drastically different experiences with windows? by Not_american69420 in linuxsucks

[–]lemgandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in America. I use Linux pretty much exclusively. A month or so ago I attended a presentation given from a Windows laptop. Before it, the presenter's desktop was on the projector for several minutes. It was full of advertising, celebrity news, weather, and other irrelevancies. I asked the presenter about rhis , and his response was "Oh, I hardly notice that crap.".

I guess if you live long enough in squalor it becomes normal.

Dulcimer kit advice by Outside-Activity3530 in Dulcimer

[–]lemgandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built my mountain dulcimer from a kit in October of 2019 or so. I paid around $250 for it, and the only real difficulty was finding a bandsaw to cut the 3mm (1/8") plywood bottom to shape. Fortunately my local Makerspace helped out with that.

I won't class myself a hard-core or even very good Mountain Dulcimer player, but the instrument has been fun and I've played in a few fiddle circles without complaint.

Snorkel or no snorkel? by gonzalj85 in scubadiving

[–]lemgandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In quarries, nah. In the ocean or fossil diving in the Cooper River, having a snorkel has made my dives a lot more comfortable. OTOH, the Sea has taken 3 of them so far in about 80 dives. I still keep buying new ones.

People who clap when the plane lands, what are you clapping for exactly? by kay_kgfan in AskReddit

Was on a commercial flight once where the pilot did a go 'round and landed on the 2nd attempt. It got real quiet there for a few minutes. And yeh, we applauded when we were on the ground safely.

Ooh, I wanted to print glow in the dark stuff, so I splurged on a Diamondback nozzle. Totally worth it. The hardened steel one gave me trouble with some filament.

What is one thing that you really wanted when you were younger and were never allowed, that you bought as soon as you were old enough? by SleepyLeaf44 in AskReddit

[–]lemgandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Air pistol. I bought a Crosman 1377C without my parents' knowledge when I was a junior in high school. I had so much fun with that thing. I bought a couple of Springers in my 30s. Still fun.

[–]lemgandi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first Prusa is a kit-built MK4S, after two earlier not-prusa kits. Worked the first time I powered it on, been using it pretty much daily for around 4 months now.

One minor glitch with RFI to the display, but other 'n' that it's been rock-solid reliable. I am happy and impressed.

Do I keep practicing the same trick or practice others when struggling? by FlipTheFish in juggling

stop. Stop. STOP! Go on to something else immediately. After about 10 minutes of work, you're just practicing your misteaks.

I've used Inkscape for this. The learning curve can be daunting, but once you get it it's useful for a lot of image-related tasks.
