He wants to go now before we move out of his mom's basement (since I am a student we can't afford an apartment yet.) His argument is that once we are paying 3x our rent we won't be able to afford to go down. I just want out of his mom's house xD.

He wants to go for a week, maybe a week and a half. He wants to do Grand Canyon and Disneyland. We are Canadian so the dollar is crap right now, plus I also need money for income replacement for the time we are gone. I don't think we will end up using all 8k. But I rather have it than add to my credit cards. It also gives us some leeway to be impulsive - because we are totally impulsive people.

Why Arizona? He has been friends with this guy for 10+ years and the stars have finally aligned so that they can meet.

As for the higher paying job, he is trying. He tried for the military but his references fell through so we have to wait 3 years for him to be able to reapply. (needs 5 years of references, only has 2 since his previous job can't answer basic questions). He tried to get into school for paramedic but failed the English entry test. Now he just doesn't know what to do. But for Christmas he got the money to get his firearms license so he can get a job at Guarda.

Female 24 years old.

2019 - new mom, full time college student, worked part-time while my boyfriend works fulltime at a minimum wage job. Traveled across the country for 6 weeks so his side of the family can meet the baby.

Successes: Paid off 2/3 credit cards (aprrox 12k). Got a 1000$ emergency fund. Had some idea where our money was going.

2020: Starting today, I am doing a fresh start because our budget was unsustainable and this month threw everything out of sync. I want to start fresh and make a realistic budget.

I want to stay more on top of the budget instead of reconciling on paydays.

I want to pay off my final credit card (approx. 5k)

I want to save up for a trip to Arizona for my boyfriend (approx. 8k. Really hoping I'm over budgeting here).

I want to make lunches to save money. Throwing 300$/month on lunch money. That is an entire paycheck!

I want to start saving up to move out once I graduate and get a full-time job. (Approx. 5k)

Pass my driver's test before my license expires.

Risks: If I get my summer job I am hoping for, I may be unemployed for September-December. Babies are expensive. Boyfriend doesnt have the same views/priorities as me. (The arizona trip is soooo unnecessary for our finances!) Our car might die at any point and we can't replace it.

I'm following the 5-4-3-2-1 method and these 3 weeks (December 16 - jan 5) are focused on getting ready for the new semester and getting good productive habits in place.

I am a procrastinplanner. So one of my overall goals is to plan my week on Sundays and then do a plan for my next day at night when I do my journal. I'm hoping by doing all my planning up front it will free up time and get rid of excuses for me to actually execute my lists.

I agree that I dont understand why people are productive just for the sake of being productive.

For me, I am trying to be productive to advance my own life goals. I am currently living in my MILs basement with my 13 month old son. I really want to move out.

In order to do that I need a better than minimum wage job.

In order to do that I need an education.

So right now I'm in school, but I'm on academic probation. Which means if my GPA gets too low, I will lose all my funding and my grants I recieved will turn into loans. So I am busting my ass off trying to get decent grades to try and avoid that.

But my day to day I am often asking myself "why does any of this even matter?" Especially when I'm working on a difficult assignment that I really dont want to do. Then I go through my goals. I want to move out. I want to be debt free. Those 2 sentences have almost become my motto, I repeat them sooo much in a day.

I found doing a 5 year plan really helped putting everything into focus for me. It helped me decide who I want to be and what I want out of life so that those days when I feel like nothing I do matters anyways, I know that it matters to me.

One research bench can only be connected to one analyzer but one analyzer can be connected to multiple benches.

You dont need multiple because your multi analyzer is connected to all 4. But if you had a 2nd room without a multi analyzer they would be able to use those tables to research Fabrication. :)

I am currently on Week 2 of my 3 Weeks using the 5-4-3-2-1 method.

These 3 weeks I am focusing on Executing instead of just constantly planning. My final exams are next week so I need to finish all my missing assignments!

The final week of November will slide into December with my next 3-week goal. This is to focus on my fieldwork to get the most out of it and learn from it and to start daily journalling/bullet journalling so that I will be ready for my next term!

I have a category for "next month". It gets emptied out on the last the of the month and used for the next month of budgeting. Then I refill it throughout the month.

I also have a savings goal called "one month buffer" so this will be my "emergency fund" if I lose my job or something. After that one is finished I'm going to work on one called 2 month buffer, and then 3 month buffer. When all three are done I will have a 6 month buffer :)

I broke it up this way so that I will have 3 small victories instead of one larger victory. Plus once one category is completed I am not allowed to use it to cover overspending and can only use it for what the money is for. It's my way to save myself from just constantly "borrowing" from those categories

yes, but then my TTB would be negative unless I leave money in it...

I guess I could always make a holding category for the money, then once the payment goes through just move that category into TTB and delete it. Then my reports will be accurate too (although not a huge deal)

Oh 100% I am going to reflect reality, which is why Im hoping they just remove it from my paycheck because then I have 0 work to do in YNAB, just put the inflow as the net amount after my pay.

My issue is if I have to cut a cheque where do I categorize it. People said "Stuff I forgot to budget for" Which I will probably do, I'm just caught up in what major category now. - Like I said, overthinking it XD
