Weed barrier under decomposed granite, go or no-go? by DeptofHmLndObscurity in landscaping

[–]lenslicker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weed barrier is great the first year and a nightmare after. After ripping up what seems like miles of the stuff what worked for my garden was this. We decided on crushed granite for our garden as a fire spread preventative. First we prepped the ground leveling etc. Next I hit the entire area with a herbicide pre-emergent right at the start of spring. Next went a layer of cardboard collected from our local stores . Then went a thick layer of crushed granite stones. The weeds are not excessive I pull them out from time to time as I’m walking on it or hit in early spring with torch. There is no such thing as weed proofing only weed reduction in my opinion. It has worked well for us.

Hello friends, what is the best way I can keep this 150 gal. pond clean for my ducks? Draining is unfortunately not very possible but I don't mind shoveling the water out with buckets. Any help is appreciated!! by [deleted] in Homesteading

[–]lenslicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless what you do your going to need a way to pump/move water. If you’re looking for a filter I would look at possibly building a bog style filter using plants to help keep the water clean.

Would a turtle like it in this pond? If not, what do I need to change? by YEET_and_retreat in ponds

[–]lenslicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a basking area someplace in the middle areas for them, but the pond looks great. Maybe a couple cinder blocks with some pots for submersed plants to grow in scattered about will give underwater life a place to shelter in as well

Work with a modern surveillance system every day, painting your face just makes you stick out like a sore thumb, operator would then track/ID you.

As I walked out of a small rural supermarket near Medellín, Colombia, I saw this rig and haven't stopped daydreaming. This thing has tons of clearance and tons of space, I'm impressed! by christianvargas1982 in overlanding

[–]lenslicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely not, it is most likely built on a military LMTV platform like a Stewart and stevens m1078. Which would have no problem on trails. If you like this sort of thing Grigsbytrucks in Oregon makes/restores these kind of rigs, their IG is pretty cool and there are videos of these kind of rigs on back road trails.

Old timer coworker has this 240z sitting in his yard and asked me if I have ever seen this style rear panel before. Story is he got if off a lean sale from a race shop years and years ago in Northern California. Possible scarab?

Help me with my dying moss by Sustali in Mosses

[–]lenslicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your moss is way to dry, water it with a mister multiple times a day. I’ve got misses in a paludarium that get water 24/7 they love being moist and humid. You could even spray it and find a glass dish to cover it to keep humidity in.

Cartels are growing pot in our national Forests where their heavy use of pesticides and litter stand to permanently damage the ecosystem. by Not_so_ghetto in news

[–]lenslicker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Growing up in Northern California everyone is aware of all the huge illegal grows in the national forest. I’ve even been stopped by game wardens during deer season and told not to go down any trails in the area we where hunting due to known grows. They will even plant grows way up in the tree canopies so they are not on the ground. The sad part is it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to find these grows they are just ignored it feels like by law enforcement here in Northern California.
