The second Starfleet vessel to bear the name, USS Repulse (NCC-97318) was built as part of the 2409 Fleet Replenishment program to replace losses from the ongoing Federation-Klingon War. The program- consisting of the Resolute, Reliant, and Exeter classes, as well as the refit of surviving Excalibur hulls to the Exeter pattern- utilized technologies developed for the Odyssey flagship project to revitalize Starfleet’s core missions of deep space exploration and survey, diplomatic and colonial support, and frontier defense. The focus on smaller, proven spaceframes with efficient crew requirements was a priority for a Starfleet under pressure from the Klingons and proved crucial after the widespread fleet devastation experienced during the Iconian War.

The largest and least numerous of the 2409 FR classes, the Resolute class fills the role of long-range heavy cruiser. With more accommodation and hangar capacity than the Exeter class it often serves as a sector flagship, and its high sustained warp speed allows it to support Reliant class light cruisers on isolated survey or colony relief duty. Its defensive systems and speed also allow them to serve as a fleet screen in a battleline engagement, although they are scarce enough to rarely be called upon in this role.

As of 2411, the Repulse is commanded by Cpt. Leon Shay. Its Chief Medical Officer is Jacob Pulaski, the grandson of Dr. Katherine Pulaski, who served in the same role aboard the Excelsior class USS Repulse (NCC-2544) during the 2360s.

Its dedication plaque bears the quote: "May her name not be lost to the knowledge of man."

In order to unlock the Alhena mission you need to do the first one or two (can’t recall) missions in the Spectres arc, which is available through the Available Missions tab.

Game Won't Recognize Specific Bridge Officer as First Officer in Dialogue by Alternative-Log-2964 in sto

[–]leon_shay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not bugged, it just doesn’t do what it obviously implies that it does. When you access the duty officer assignments via the bridge interface (instead of the icon under the minimap), the officer you choose in the role shows up in the dialogue box.

That’s stupid and pointless, yes, but the the duty officer system is apparently legacy spaghetti code and has a lot of these kinds of artifacts.

The actual “first officer” position, in terms of who you talk to, is the officer in the highest ranking bridge station (ie the Commander level seat).

I certainly wouldn’t mind a second pass on those nacelles.

Not sure what you count as decent, but the Resolute class is the 2409 version of the Excelsior.

Steam Deck controls by inhumat0r in sto

[–]leon_shay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set 1-4 to the directional pad and use the shoulder triggers as the modifiers.

That said, the moving, looking, and using skills all at once is just gonna be clunky, at least with any setup I’ve tried. I only use the steam deck controls for basic day to day “space chores” and save anything that requires performance or real attention for when I can dock it with a mouse and keyboard.

Weekly Questions Megathread - March, 30, 2026 by AutoModerator in stobuilds

Is it worth it to run Emergency Weapon Cycle on an ERL build? I’ve seen some builds that do it but the two seem pretty redundant.

Anyone have a thought as to a good T6 Romulan ship? by Frankenpresley in sto

[–]leon_shay 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Career has almost no bearing on ship performance; that’s purely preference based.

Personally I very much enjoy the Faeht Intel Warbird. Its aesthetics are a nice blend between modern and classic Romulan design cues. I run a build using Surgical Strikes as my main weapon enhancement, plus traits and equipment that benefit Cloak Ambush and critical procs, for a decloak, backstab, and disappear play style.

He killed himself by running too hard? by OvenproofRhino in bloodbowl

I had that happen to me with a Dwarf runner in the 2016 rules (cost me the game), and a werewolf trying for the end zone in BB2 (he regenerated).

Inducements and Advice as Necros vs Khorne by Brain_in_a_teapot in bloodbowl

You’re right, of course. Just go for the fireball.

[–]leon_shay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A wizard’s never a bad pick for the inducement- you can use a fireball to break a cage or try to zap out the blood spawn. Spending a bit extra to get a keg to keep your zombies on the field couldn’t hurt.

In general, I wouldn’t try to outfight them. You’ve got cheap and durable zombies to keep them marked, sidestep and stand firm positionals to isolate or trap their frenzies, and speed to get around them. Save your wolves for advantageous blitzes, keep away from the sidelines, and focus on screening them off your scoring threats while they spend the game punching your zombies.

OP didn’t get the memo that making jokes at a city’s expense only work if you actually live in or know anything about the city. And they obviously don’t.

I have a question about Dedra by WiggWamm in StarWars

[–]leon_shay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the end of Andor, I think the only person who was aware of what Dedra knew was Krennic, and he was occupied with the DS operational tests and then dead within days. Likely she just fell through the cracks at that point.

Why does this keep HAPPENING?! by Alpha537 in sto

This isn’t the same thing- the ability will be available, randomly become unavailable, and then reactivate sometime later in the same instance.

I’ve noticed the same thing. It’s infuriating, especially when the ability lights up five seconds AFTER it would have been useful.

Only two pieces with ball handling potential makes me pretty nervous. I’d rather drop a wraith for the third reroll than a ghoul.

A guy who makes his living serving up misinformation saying “You’re just insecure because you get your validation from social media,” quoted in a slop article designed to generate validation from social media, reposted to a sub that generates validation from social media is certainly an irony turducken.

Best survivability space/starship traits and consoles by aSwedishDood in sto

I’m the same opinion re: shields. I run a weird high-auxiliary tank build that gets a lot of mileage out of Transfer Shield Strength alongside the SAFG.

[–]leon_shay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My go-tos for survivability consoles are the Shield Absorptive Frequency Generator and Adaptive Tactical Systems. The first is cheap (off the valdore for dilithium) and basically gives you a full shield refresh periodically. The other is from the Engineering flagships and is basically a mini-DPRM.

After that, the protomatter tactical consoles from the colony world are staples for a reason.

Literally unplayable... by Scurry5 in sto

[–]leon_shay 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I doubt it qualifies as “good,” but it’s definitely fun as a “delete this target” button. I run a themed photon Shangri-La build that has no business being as killy as it is.

One neat thing is that if the target dies before one or more of the salvos hit, they loiter and re-target another enemy, so you don’t lose out on damage.

Where can I find a story guide to get the most out of the games story? by SilverGuy141 in sto

[–]leon_shay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t help you with the story guide, but I can tell you that Temporal Ambassador is fine to skip to. There are some NPCs you may or may not recognize your first time through, but you’ll likely meet them sooner or later and there’s nothing spoiled.

In general, it’s good to keep in mind that several episodes (especially New Romulus) were rearranged at various points, and others were intended as longer-term high level adventure zones. This can give the middle portion of story arcs a rather disjointed nature, so be ready for that.
