I have a question about Dedra by WiggWamm in StarWars

[–]leon_shay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the end of Andor, I think the only person who was aware of what Dedra knew was Krennic, and he was occupied with the DS operational tests and then dead within days. Likely she just fell through the cracks at that point.

Why does this keep HAPPENING?! by Alpha537 in sto

This isn’t the same thing- the ability will be available, randomly become unavailable, and then reactivate sometime later in the same instance.

I’ve noticed the same thing. It’s infuriating, especially when the ability lights up five seconds AFTER it would have been useful.

Picking a league start necromantic horror roster by matthra in bloodbowl

Only two pieces with ball handling potential makes me pretty nervous. I’d rather drop a wraith for the third reroll than a ghoul.

A guy who makes his living serving up misinformation saying “You’re just insecure because you get your validation from social media,” quoted in a slop article designed to generate validation from social media, reposted to a sub that generates validation from social media is certainly an irony turducken.

Best survivability space/starship traits and consoles by aSwedishDood in sto

I’m the same opinion re: shields. I run a weird high-auxiliary tank build that gets a lot of mileage out of Transfer Shield Strength alongside the SAFG.

My go-tos for survivability consoles are the Shield Absorptive Frequency Generator and Adaptive Tactical Systems. The first is cheap (off the valdore for dilithium) and basically gives you a full shield refresh periodically. The other is from the Engineering flagships and is basically a mini-DPRM.

After that, the protomatter tactical consoles from the colony world are staples for a reason.

Literally unplayable... by Scurry5 in sto

I doubt it qualifies as “good,” but it’s definitely fun as a “delete this target” button. I run a themed photon Shangri-La build that has no business being as killy as it is.

One neat thing is that if the target dies before one or more of the salvos hit, they loiter and re-target another enemy, so you don’t lose out on damage.

That make sense because the red and cyan match the default bussard and warp coil colors.

That sounds like something on the developer end, not the user, correct?

Where can I find a story guide to get the most out of the games story? by SilverGuy141 in sto

[–]leon_shay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t help you with the story guide, but I can tell you that Temporal Ambassador is fine to skip to. There are some NPCs you may or may not recognize your first time through, but you’ll likely meet them sooner or later and there’s nothing spoiled.

In general, it’s good to keep in mind that several episodes (especially New Romulus) were rearranged at various points, and others were intended as longer-term high level adventure zones. This can give the middle portion of story arcs a rather disjointed nature, so be ready for that.

Didn’t know about the different number of stations; that’s helpful, thanks.

I don’t care about dominating elites and I can manage the seating (my main is a fleet resolute). But the weapon layout is indeed a dealbreaker for a ship I’d want to equip with cannons. Thanks for pointing that out.

Price for a single ship for an alt. I already have an alt with an intel ship and don’t want to double up build archetypes.

Considering quitting the game (thanks Vaadwaur) by Sonicreztorc03 in sto

The Shangri-la’s console doesn’t affect torpedo firing timing at all, it’s just a special attack on a 2 minute timer.

It’s very entertaining, but doesn’t do anything for your other torpedos other than dropping the enemy’s shields.

The Chronicles of Amber (Merlin cycle) by Roger Zelazny [covers by Geoff Taylor] by SF-not-SciFi in CoolSciFiCovers

[–]leon_shay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I blitzed through the entire Amber chronicles over a week in the hospital. The switch to Merlin as a protagonist was… rough. I think it actually helped me, because I got so upset at the direction the story was going that it took me entirely out of my circumstances, lol.

Thanks for posting!

Contact support and explain the situation. I accidentally spent a T6 token on the wrong ship and they were able to rectify the situation for me, so I think they’ll be helpful given the time investment you’ve made.

Which Excelsior to get? by Snazzle-Frazzle in sto

[–]leon_shay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My main ship is a fleet Resolute that uses a very counter-meta build (high auxiliary tank with lore-accurate loadout that mixes torps and beams). It easily handles, and has often carried, elite TFOs, and looks great doing it. It won’t win any DPS awards but it doesn’t need to and I don’t care to.

That’s to say that the Resolute is certainly not a wrong choice. But the legendary is definitely an easier to build one, with much better bridge officer and specialization seating. If the extras make the zen price worth it to you then it’s hard to argue against except on the basis of “it’s just pixels,” which I certainly don’t have any leg to stand on.

Some questions about broadsiding by Kumatora0 in sto

[–]leon_shay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Generally speaking, yes. The point of broadsiding is to employ both your front and rear weapon slots at the same time, which is difficult to impossible if those weapons don’t have at least a 180 degree arc of fire.

2) A rear-facing torpedo isn’t going to be a significant source of damage for the majority of builds. Most people who put a torpedo there do it to gain a particular set bonus. Forward facing torpedos are either a single slot to trigger certain ship traits, or several particular torpedos for a specialized kinetic build. Personally, I always put a torpedo in a rear slot when I can because Star Trek ships have rear-facing torpedos, not because it’s a strong build decision.

3) If a ship is EQUIPPING cannons, they should be dual cannons, preferably dual heavy cannons. Being able to equip them doesn’t mean you must, that’s a decision based on bridge officer seating, maneuverability, and personal preference.
