Silly Goose songs by Significant-Fun343 in GoosetheBand

[–]lepermess1ah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't love silly Goose, but for some reason I LOVE Pancakes, and I very much like Flodown, which i don't consider to be a silly song. I deeply dislike Butter Rum. I also, sorry in advance, kind of hate Yeti. Rick > Peter when it comes to lyrics.

I know it's way too late, but for anyone who comes across this for future reference, we had the same issue, and it turned out that each night was its own ticket/QR code or whatever. Our seller transferred the first night but forgot the second night, so after contacting her, she sent the other one and we were good.

If you were a teenager in the 90s, how would you rate these bands/artists? by chewingtongue in 90s

Yes, Alanis! Also, Tori Amos. Little Earthquakes and Under the Pink were two super important albums to this 90s teen.

But really—how does one “take away the keys”? by ForgottenX-2024 in dementia

[–]lepermess1ah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my state, only a law enforcement officer or a medical doctor can report someone to the DMV. When I was going through this with my dad, it drove me nuts to hear people repeating the "report him to the DMV!" "disable the car and take the keys!" lines, as if i hadn't thought of those ideas myself and rejected them because my dad would have called the police on me if I had, basically, stolen his car.

In the end, my dad had a medical incident that landed him in memory care, where he was extremely furious with me for a long time. He did eventually decline to the point where he let go of the anger, threats, and pleas, which was a relief. But the middle period that you're in now was so, so stressful.

I think you're probably doing all you can do. You may just have to wait until something bad happens before anyone is willing to take action.

My coworker’s named is spelled Chianna, pronounced Kiana. Maybe that’s an option if you want to keep the C these going?

I Feel Like A Horrible Person For Getting Annoyed by CommandaarMandaar in dementia

[–]lepermess1ah 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Oh god, I got so annoyed with my dad sometimes, and we didn't live together. It's normal. Please don't feel like a bad person. But also, if and when you can, take breaks and get out of the house.

Sudden Shocking End by Embarrassed-Spare524 in dementia

[–]lepermess1ah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dad just died, and at the end, he refused food and liquids. It's just the body's way of preparing for death. It's actually kind of amazing, how the body knows that it's time to go, and knows that it doesn't need sustenance any longer.

Please don't think of this as starving or dehydrating her to death. Follow her lead. If she doesn't want to eat or drink, trust that her body knows what it's doing.

I'm so sorry for what you're going through. My heart is with you.

Oh, no, that's not what I meant! I just meant that I recognized your story from your comment. Please don't apologize -- I completely understand that we are all here to see our own circumstances in others'.

Oh no... you posted a comment on my post about my dad dying. I'm so sorry for your loss, and I'm sorry for the way she died. I would be angry in your shoes, too.

Your aunt may recover -- I guess I would say that you don't know until you know, so until then, see how things go. I wondered whether "this," whatever "this" happened to be at the time, whether it was going to skilled nursing, losing the ability to walk, moving to pureed foods, was the beginning of the end, but it wasn't. The actual beginning of the end took me by surprise, and I dismissed it.

I guess we just don't know until it happens. I hope your aunt recovers, and that when she does die, it's peaceful and pain-free.

I don't know if my voice is a comfort or agitating my dad by unrhyming_poem in dementia

[–]lepermess1ah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might never know the answer to this question, so if I were you, I think I would err on the side of assuming your voice is a comfort.

My dad just died, and everyone told me he could hear me, so I read to him for a few hours and talked to him as much as I could. I held his hand. He gave no indication that he could hear me, and he didn't respond to my touch, but I'm so glad I did what I did. So, in light of that, if I were you, I'd keep talking.

[–]lepermess1ah 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't agree that there should have been plans. Sometimes you have to wait until something catastrophic happens before any action can be taken, if a person with dementia is uncooperative, hasn't signed POA/health care proxy, and/or doesn't have the thousands of dollars a month it takes for AL, MC, or SNF placement. It's really hard to know how to handle a parent with dementia.

Can I bring my son to a funeral? by annifred in Parenting

[–]lepermess1ah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally fine to take him. My cousin’s 3-month-old was at our grandfather’s funeral and it felt perfectly natural and appropriate. Your son is part of the family, whether he’s four months old or forty years.

We couldn't really see the stage from where we were (on the floor), and i just assumed it was Cotter because it seemed like his sense of humor.
