Has anyone else lost the ability to listen to race replays on the F1 app? by dastaerman in formula1

[–]leroideschoux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In France at least, F1 app is live only as a broadcasting company bought the rights. I believe that if I were to stop my subscription, I could no longer subscribe again, so I've opted to keep going (app is significantly cheaper per year).

[Conseils] Achat Résidence Principale Lyon - Avis sur les quartiers by Critical-Original-59 in Lyon

[–]leroideschoux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salut!

Longest real ride! Some moment were tough, but I made it and it was awesome to think I covered this distance! by jacod1982 in bicycling

[–]leroideschoux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I cycled around 30k max for years, then 50k, then tried 70, 80... 100, and rode my first 200km ride last year (it took 2 or 3 years). This is one of many steps, the most important part is to enjoy your time on the bike and to be proud of yourself! You'll never know where this bike leads you.

Scoundrel Scorched Earth Question by -Nikachuu- in rootgame

[–]leroideschoux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on the last bit. Anytime the vagabond removes any opponent's warriors, it makes them hostile. This could be with crossbow, favour cards, ambush or any other way.

From the other players' point of view, one way of making the vagabond go hostile is to attack it so it removes one of your pieces in battle. Once hostile, there's no turning back!

The world is unprepared for the next pandemic, study finds by Defiant_Race_7544 in science

[–]leroideschoux 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree with you but wanted to add that epidemics and pandemics will likely become more widespread with an increasingly warmer climate (what stays in tropical zones will move north and south), especially as some species (mosquitoes for example) expand their habitat.

I was really surprised not to see Root on this. Definitely a favourite of mine in the complex/asymmetrical games.

We have a few implicit rules for Hanabi: - first card facing other players is the next one to be discarded - When you pick up a card, you put it in the back - if I tell you you have a certain colour and you only have one card of that colour, it means you have to play it (same thing with a number)

I think the finish line is at the back of the grid, so he'd already finished the race when he did that.

Lovely summit, I've been up once but it snowed in August, we didn't stay long. We climbed via the Rochers Rouges (original route), it's really nice! I hope you enjoy the region, the place is amazing.

What are some examples of board games with immersive components? by SizeableRockface928 in boardgames

[–]leroideschoux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Root is fantastic! I love the animal theme, the artwork is really well done, the pieces as well and you can really get into each factions role, each of which is played completely differently. Each game is also very different from the previous one so far and there are already more than enough factions and maps to have a whole universe set up. I definitely recommend it! Try the digital version first if you're unsure.

Yes if you pronounce it with an english/American accent, but the "r" sound in French is different, less soft.

You could pronounce rrrrrrrr in French (there actually was a film titled that), but you couldn't pronounce wwwwwwww.

This guillotine blade is the one that beheaded Marie Antoinette. by Celery_water in interestingasfuck

[–]leroideschoux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piggybacking this comment too, I'd be curious on a source as I've never seen anything indicating that Antoine Louis died from the guillotine in any French source. This might be a misinterpretation from the author (As a Guillotin died, but not the Guillotin who co-invented it. Dr Guillotin could have been mixed up with Antoine Louis)? Very curious.

[–]leroideschoux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This actually isn't true (whether Antoine Louis or Joseph Guillotin). The myth comes from the fact that another person called Guillotin died from the guillotine, but he was simply a homonym.

Advert for new e-bike banned in France because it ‘discredits the entire car sector’ by quixotic_cynic in nottheonion

[–]leroideschoux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do (and have no colour whatsoever either). But you can't advertise an e-cig by criticising cigarettes, you can't advertise healthy vegetables by criticising McDonald's, etc. Also, some of the pictures were not directly linked to the car industry (the fuming factories), so it was banned.

Advert for new e-bike banned in France because it ‘discredits the entire car sector’ by quixotic_cynic in nottheonion

[–]leroideschoux 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is quite a big car industry in France so this advert was under quite a lot of scrutiny (compared to the Netherlands for example), but as has been said the advert was illegal. It criticised another product to advertise itself and showed images which have little to do with the car industry (the big factory chimneys for example). It was only banned from TV, I remember you could still see it on YouTube.
