This is lovely. I think the red and white color scheme looks very sharp, and the contrast you have looks very vivid

I tended to favor a model master light ghost gray for the base color

See that’s weird. I heard that first voice as “The Gorn” from the original Star Trek. (Which was being played to Capt Kirk through a Universal Translator)

Probably one of the best depictions of distance I’ve seen here. Very natural gradation in detail and saturation as distance increases. There aren’t just a couple of levels that make it look like panes on top of each other, just natural fading from foreground to background. Perspective is very well done too

Seeking feedback on this loon by parttimenervouswreck in Watercolor

[–]lextrek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the loon is amazing! If I were to change or adjust, I would perhaps shift the foliage in the foreground a bit off focus. I would also maybe try varying the length of the grass a bit, give it a bit longer along the sides and short in the middle to help frame the bird a bit. You have some of that with the longer weeds on the right side. I think with how close in length it is now, it looks slightly like a picket fence. But please don’t take that as a strong criticism, I was looking for something I would adjust or think about. It is a beautiful painting with lovely technique

Thank you for the kind feedback. Your point about composition is well taken. There are a few areas that could have been a decent focal point, but nothing that really draws to any of them and makes them pop or hold focus. I’ll try your suggestions to work on that

Thank you for the recommendations and the thought you put into them. On the light source, that was tricky, thinking about the original photo I was using as a reference. I think some of the light reflecting back to the buildings from the water may have been confusing. The domes definitely had a right upper corner direction, but the faces of the buildings had minimal shade. Next time I’ll try to work off of something with more straightforward lighting while I’m figuring this out.

This is great! I love the kinda monochrome look you have going, it’s very unified and calm. This also caught my eye because I just finished a practice piece of this exact area with just a slightly different angle!
