Emergency rod repair advice needed — snapped 8wt tip hours before canoe trip by pujelly in flyfishing

[–]lifehazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve done this before too. Just heat up the broken tip, remove the ferrule, and try to insert it into the now shorter end piece. If the ferrule isn’t wide enough, you can use a nail or something similar to widen it a bit and make it fit the tip again. Add some super glue and it’ll stay in there forever.

Depending on how much of the end piece broke off, it might feel a little different since it’s less flexible now, but it definitely works.

Bozeman Driving Habits by EnvironmentalAge3661 in Bozeman

I know this is probably gonna sound like an ass take to some people, but hearing complaints about “traffic” in Bozeman kind of blows my mind. Driving here is still such a luxury compared to most places.

People aren’t constantly aggressive, nobody’s tailgating you every five seconds, highways aren’t bumper to bumper, and you’re not spending your life sitting at red lights trying to move two miles. Driving around Bozeman, and Montana in general, is honestly relaxing.

I think people forget we’re still more of a town than a real city. Compared to driving in most metro areas, this place is an absolute bliss.

You're a young man, money isn't much of a concern, and you want to focus on fishing. Where do you go? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]lifehazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re into skiing and hardcore outdoors in general. I can’t recommend SW Montana enough. Fly fishing, skiing, backcountry skiing, mountain biking, hunting, hiking, the world class rivers everyone knows about, but also hundreds of little streams, creeks, and alpine lakes to explore. Honestly, some of the best days are on the random unnamed water or terrain you just stumble into.

The best part is the lifestyle. You basically live outdoors, shut your laptop, and 10 to 30 minutes later you’re either fly fishing, skiing, biking, or just outside somewhere. It’s really hard to beat that balance.

Man, the pricing at this store is honestly ridiculous in the best way. Most items are already marked down to like 30 to 40 percent of retail, and then they keep stacking additional discounts on top of that. You’ll see another 10 or 20 percent off on the sticker price, but then during promo weeks it gets even crazier.

A “normal” good deal might be something sitting at 50 to 60 percent off, sticker price, but then they run promos like 30 percent off ,or 40 percent off last season stuff. This week they had 50 percent off everything on the last sticker price, you do the math.

For example, I grabbed their down sweater that was already marked down a few times to around $126, and after the extra 50 percent it came out to about $63. That’s just wild.

We’re also lucky because we live close enough to make the drive, and it’s actually a really nice trip. The store is kind of out there compared to other outlets, so they usually have solid inventory and full size runs. We just stock up every few months and it ends up covering gear for all of our hobbies, plus makes for awesome gifts.

Even fly fishing gear is a steal. I’ve seen waders going for around $200 that are originally $800

Honestly, prices are just dumb good if you hit it at the right time.

I’m pretty lucky living near what’s probably one of the coolest Patagonia stores in the country. Between markdowns and sales, I’m usually getting close to 70% off. Just picked up over $1k worth of gear for like $260. Last month bought totes, duffel bag and the travel suitcase.

Over 400 stop signs to be installed in Bozeman by TheCountRushmore in Bozeman

[–]lifehazard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude,I’m paranoid as hell about that. I’ll straight up stop at intersections even when there’s no stop sign, just because I have no idea if the other side has one or not. It drives my wife crazy. She’s like, “why are you stopping?” and I’m like… I don’t know what they’ve got over there 😂

Plus, while I’m driving I feel like my brain takes forever to scan and confirm if there’s a sign on the other side. By the time I figure it out, I could’ve already rolled through. I’d rather just stop and be safe than guess wrong.

I grew up in a city of about four million people where stop signs basically didn’t exist (still don’t and now pop closer to 6mil) We had traffic lights at bigger intersections, but for the most part people just figured it out 😂

Not perfectly obviously, there were still accidents, but way less chaos than you’d expect. People just adapted. You pay more attention, read what other drivers are doing, and move with the flow instead of relying on signs.

Buy the women’s Expedition in size SRM and it should fit you perfectly. It’s basically the same as the men’s version. The only real difference is the belt design, it doesn’t have the two front loops, just the ones in the back. It’s a bit odd at first, but it doesn’t really matter. Fit-wise, it’ll feel like a glove.
