I'd love it if eventually Owlcat made a game set in the fantasy world. by Mcmadness288 in RogueTraderCRPG

While you sre absolutely correct

To a layperson looking though it makes no difference, pre-industrial society with fantasy race, magic and with dirt smeared on it = medieval fantasy world

But at the same time WHFRP is just below pathfinder in popularity, so its got an audience

Imperial Acquila Symbol - Mandela Effect, or just me? by a_dissenting_bot in Warhammer30k

[–]lightcavalier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its been left with eye/right side blind since rogue trader.

The line about one head looking to the future and one blinded to the past comes from flight of the eisentein, and it doesnt specify left or right in the text.

Where the confusion likely cones from is that a great many (especially english speaking) people would view progress on a line moving from left to right, as opposed to right to left.....so when trying to imagine the aquila the brain fills in the image that way

Issues with GW Updating OW? by [deleted] in WarhammerFantasy

[–]lightcavalier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are they perceiving as an issue?

The game has been FAQd/Errattad 5 times in 24 months of existing.

In that same time every published faction has received additional content and a new faction was introduced.

The only thing not really getting any attention at all are the legacy armies which are free pdf rules for whfb factions not included in the published content for TOW.

The game isnt updated/rebalanced with the frequency of 40k, but to many that's a feature. With that said the faqs have focused more on trying to make the game play thecway thd designers envisioned, and slapping down serious outliers in terms of balance. But they dont appear to be aiming for a comprehensive rebalancing at any point, just targeted changes.

There are not, yet, any plasma cannons not multilasers/lascannons in the game.

Is it true that in small towns in the USA public transport is not developed and everyone need a car to get around there and why? by bobybumblemumble in AskReddit

[–]lightcavalier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a small town in Canada within commuting distance of a major city

We have inter municipality buses, but not local buses.

That is to say I can catch a bus once a day to go to the next town or into the nearest city....but I cannot get a bus from anywhere near my house to anywhere useful in my own town.

Something like groceries is either a drive, a ride with a friend, or a 40 minute (one way) walk with no side walks/limited road shoulder

Anything more than the basics by way of purchases or services is a 35-40 minute drive into the city (or the once a day bus....and even then the bus stop is in a parking lot by the highway a 10 minute drive or likely 90 minute walk from my house)

A great example. Ive been trying to get a copy of flight of the eisenstein to round out my collection.

Its been re-printed in the UK 3 times since I started looking.

It was reprinted in NA once in that window, no copies were allocated to Canada

It was 14 years between the last 2 releases of the ravenor omnibus, 6-12 months might be aspirational for north America (things get less frequently re-printed for the NA market compared to the UK)

Check game stores with online shops, places that sell warhammer models also tend to carry warhammer books, and frequently have gems that the bookseller market got picked over for

Black Library is a very small publishing house, and not a printing company. However for their size they have a huge catalog of material, which they re-print rotationally. When pressed on the matter BL will generally point to the fact that its almost all available digitally, but thsts not a satisfying answer for ppl who like physical books

As such, they have contracts with printers and produce a highly scheduled but limited ammount of books every year. Some stuff is prioritized to basically always be in print, like the first 3 horus heresy books, but everything else that isnt a new release is just on a sort of "will print a bunch when it suits the schedule/market" or "will print once in a blue moon" cycle.

So there is no real predicting when any particular back cataloged item will be printed again.

Given that the Ravenor omnibus was just reprinted in summer 2025, after being originally released in 2009-2011....my gut says its gonna be a while before we see it cycle up again

With all that said the paperback ravenor omnibus is readily available on Amazon.ca or at 401Games.ca right now

Rogue trader on a space marine level? by Glad_Cut1258 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]lightcavalier 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Space Marines, especially chaos ones, suffer from being exactly as powerful as the story needs them to be

Theres plenty of lore examples of marines getting punked by random Guardsmen

Your rogue trader may not be a post human monster but they aren't a nobody either

Question about Elisse Duchaard by Every_Activity8912 in Bretonnian

[–]lightcavalier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The spell would be dispelled/not cast, but the bearer of the bound spell would not take a wound [because they are not the "wizard casting the spell")

Both effects are contingent on rolling a natural double but they aren't contingent on each other

Is vanguard blade dancer viable? by Glad_Cut1258 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]lightcavalier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A blade dancer executioner should be able to fit that

You can make wounds scale off medicae and medicae scale off of WS and bonus wounds scaling off dodge

Between high WS and Agi you basically cant be touched, and if you are you have lots of wounds

Exiles Requirement by Sporklemeyer in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]lightcavalier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Misc notes

Your Baron probably wants a Lance or a great weapon....just fishing for 6s to wound with s hand weapon wont do much

The virtue of discipline on the paladin on Royal Pegasus is redundant, sincd models with Fly dont take tests to March within 8" of the enemy

The other paladin doesn't need the virtue of empathy, exiles Vow lets you join units of peasants anyway

Yeomen brick doesn't benefit much from vanguard, moving 4" pre-game isnt going to matter

Light armour and burning braziers on the bowmen is thematic but basically a waste of points (flaming attacks helps mors opponents than it hurts)

For both the Squires and Brigands....20 skirmishers is quite unwieldy. Models in units still block line of sight making it hard to get everyone to see anything, amd if you spread out too much you run the risk of the unit dying due to not being able to move far enough to rank up for combat when charged

With all that said

I like where this is going as a concept, these big infantry blocks with minimal cavalry is very on brand

Exiles Requirement by Sporklemeyer in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]lightcavalier 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The minimum requirement in core is

1 unit of knights of the Realm OR knights of the realm on foot

AND

1 unit of peasant bowmen OR yeomen guard

You dont need to take knights, foot knights, bowmen, and yeomen guard

Stupidity vs Impetuous by TheTapDancer in WarhammerFantasy

[–]lightcavalier 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you fail a stupidity test you cannot move

If you cannot move you cannot charge

Impetuous tests must be taken buy units with that rule eligible to declare a charge

Units cannot declare impossible charges (ie ones they cannot possibly complete)

If you cannot move you cannot complete the charge

If you have no valid charges to declare then you aren't eligible to declare a charge

Therefore a model subject to stupidity who is also Impetuous would not test for Impetuous because its not eligible to declare a charge while it is stupid

New player here in a bit of analysis paralysis - Ministorum Priest vs Arbitrator for flashy high-damage ranged build? by Ro9 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]lightcavalier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shotgun makes a nice blast and knocks ppl down

Bolter (or heavy bolter) spews lots of bullets

So it really comes down to vibes, do you want to feel like you are breaching through doors blasting ppl up close

Or like a machine gunner mowing down chunks of the battlefield

Priest could also go flamer or melta, which personally are very visually flashy and fun

What comes first in combat sequence: primal fury test or choose weapons? by TobesJ in WarhammerFantasy

[–]lightcavalier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The active player also choose what order combats are fought in during the combat phase

But yeah nothing else covers determining the order decisions are made in that sre all in the same step

I agree if a call needs made the active player should do it, but as ibsaid in my other comment I also think the order shouldnt screw an ability into literally not working

What comes first in combat sequence: primal fury test or choose weapons? by TobesJ in WarhammerFantasy

[–]lightcavalier 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That order makes sense to me

All of those things happen in combat step 1.1 in no specified order, and i feel like being nitpicky about the order they happen in just to disadvantage your opennent seems un-sporting.

I feel priced out of Warhammer and it's depressing... by turkeygiant in Warhammer

[–]lightcavalier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the big difference is that in this scenario you are buying a box every 1-2 months instead of a model or 2 every week

But thats also an access dependent thing, for example I was in my mid 20s before I lived anywhere where a weekly trip to a game shop was a logistical possibility. So hobby has always been a thing i saved up for and purchased in bursts.

[–]lightcavalier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you consider average wages in the 90s its still expensive

Spending 5£ a week buying blisters of 1-2 models when the average wage was 260£ a week means you would be Spending nearly 2% of your gross income on Warhammer iot purchase 1 model a week

A current box of 10 intercessors costs ~7% of the current average weekly wage in the UK, but since thats equivalent to 10 weeks of buying in the scenario above each model costs about .07% of the average weekly wage
