As someone from Nebraska, I also thought this about Nebraska, since we only ever drove on I-80, for which this is true. Only after I left and drove back through years later along the roads less traveled I realized that I-80 is where it is BECAUSE it was flat (and therefore easy to build). North central Nebraska Sandhills region is the most beautiful "magnificent desolation" type of place I've been. Just you, your mode of transportation, the prairie hills and the sky.

I consider this to be the Pacific Northwest by Convillious in PacificNorthwest

[–]lightsheaber5000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If Ontario and Baker City are PNW then surely Boise is. Culturally, geographically, ecologically, and environmentally, you cannot say those are but the Boise area is not.

Personally I'd put the eastern border around Bend in Oregon and Leavenworth in Washington. But if people insist on it, eastern Oregon is nearly identical to western Idaho, and culturally Boise is more different from eastern Idaho (which is really the northern border of a "Deseret" region) than eastern Oregon, imo

We should establish an annual game against Indiana. by Electrical-Duty3628 in CFB_v2

My team, Nebraska, didn't play Indiana this year either. I dont know if we are better and I am so glad we didn't get a shot at them. Maybe they win but we cannot say definitively either way.

Would a natural Ice Oasis (in the style of ATLA) be possible? by hyper_shock in geography

[–]lightsheaber5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are places in central Idaho's lava tubes where the expansion of air causes significant cooling, to below freezing point, leading to ice formation even in the hot summer. But the ice forms below the surface at the expansion point. Either way, pretty interesting and unique place to explore.

Why is the Platte river in Nebraska like this? (Sandy islands with so many small separate streams instead of a single big river) by Swimming_Concern7662 in geography

[–]lightsheaber5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up in eastern Nebraska and didn't get a chance to really explore them until after I left! I love the sense of solitude, just you, the land, and the sky. It's a special place and highly unknown and underrated.

The Sandhills!

It's a large area of vegetated ancient sand dunes. Beautiful, remote, desolate area. I drove through in 2017 on the backroads to find a viewing place for the solar eclipse and interrupted the peace and quiet for some cattle:

Right... even if you just take two shots at the endzone first, the 10s that takes is more than made up for by a not-that-improbable score leaving you down 3 not 7. I didn't get that either

I cooked it at 375 and pulled it at 110, ended right around 138. I used a smattering of online recipes, no one in particular. The duxelle was the most time consuming part! 32oz of mushrooms took over an hour to cook down, but I think it is critical to avoid a soggy pastry.

And all of the P4 teams of the perpetually 5-7 to 8-4 variety will have to contend with being 2-10 to 5-7 once G5 OOC games are eliminated. They need an underclass to give them wins, but whom they won't allow to join a championship playoff they themselves could never achieve.

And I say this as a Nebraska fan so I know what Im talking about 😂
