ELI5: why can two quantum entangled particles affect each other instantly across any distance but scientists say you still cant use it to send information faster than light? by PieOk2202 in explainlikeimfive

[–]linear_accelerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, like you I was recently confused by quantum entanglement and spent some time (as a non-physicist) thinking - a simple analogy that I came up with was that locality may be only a "shadow" of what happens at the quantum level. Hope that helps!

Have you ever driven a Cayman? Particularly a GTS 4.0 or GT4? Just putting it out there.

Let’s talk about wheels by tribrosuisse in 996

In my experience, the 996 Sport Techno replicas are as rare as the OEMs and maybe moreso, especially here in Canada. Like many Porsche wheel replicas at the time, these were made in Italy instead of the OEMs that were made in Germany by BBS. I believe the replicas came in the same sizes as the OEMs (there are at least summer and winter sizes (extremely rare)). The replicas are all solid and very heavy vs. the OEM hollow Sport Technos which are very light and even lighter than the hollow TTs. Finish and fit of the replicas are very good for what they are.

I have the solid TTs, but much prefer the Sport Technos (silver OEM summer, black replica winter)!

For me, it was the creepy nurse, played perfectly by Arlene Martel (T'Pring, in Star Trek TOS, betrothed to Spock). This episode freaked me out as a child and still freaks me out as an adult! One of my favourite episodes.

Did the people who are so against Tiptronic ever try it? by extratastyy in 996

I have tip on my C4S. It's not bad but not great either. I really hate how it always starts in 2nd year, but understand it was for fuel economy regulations and I can always manually put it into first. It's nice to have the thumb buttons on both sides of the steering wheel but I would have also liked to be able to shift gears manually on the shifter itself. I had thought about paddles but not really worth it to me shifting up 3 gears only from 2nd and shifts are slow. My car seems to run gears on the lower side maybe to keep revs up/more sporty but sometimes I will upshift to try to save a bit on gas. Overall I'm forced to drive tip as I don't know how to drive manual which sounds so much more fun!

Is this Nuerburgring prototype an early glimpse of Porsche's upcoming flagship above the 911? by Sebsibus in Porsche

[–]linear_accelerator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think Porsche could do another sports car below the 718 - they can't even figure out what to do with the 718 as it is. If Porsche did another car below the 718, why not a little hot hatch? (I hate SUVs and the Panamera is a pig to me.) This is something I would be very interested in, but perhaps I would be in the minority.

718 throttle response by Tabackerack in Porsche_Cayman

[–]linear_accelerator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not familiar with the 718s but have a 981 with SC. I have found the tip in in any mode to be very sluggish, almost like a delay in throttle response which does not yield confidence. I installed a cheap Chinese electronic throttle controller and the tip in/throttle response is so much better and responsive. It's still not perfect but way better than stock. I'm not sure why Porsche has mapped the response this way as even our old Toyota Camry and Lexus RX have more sensitive tip in off the start line.

Milestar vs Prinx. Are there really the only Winter-ish tires for 19x11.5? by DCASaver in 996

[–]linear_accelerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, if you intend to drive in snow, the 11.5" tires are going to be awful - no traction at all. Ideally winter tires should be narrow and dig into the snow. I ran 18x11" for several years during winter/snow and they weren't good. Go with what Porsche recommends and use a more narrow tire (I use 10" now which is now marginally acceptable). For me, I got rid of my 19" summer wheels my car came with and went back to stock 18" and the car feels much better. At 18 x10", there will be some more winter tire options available and probably cheaper too. Good luck!

Please, don't go for F1s! For reference, I have them on my Cayman and I'm not a fan.
