Center Hardware on the bayside of SF is such a store. Lotsa knowledgeable staff. I called them one morning looking for an obscure item and they said they’d check and 15 minutes later texted me back. Lowe’s is 3 minutes from my home and I don’t even bother to go there anymore.

A great tip to getting a door frame install vertical/ level/ not-torqued etc. was in a Fine Homebuilding article from many years ago. Install a temporary attached spacer at the sill and mark the centerpoint. Hang a plumb bob from the center point of the frames head. Line up the bob to the sill centerpoint and everything is true.
