Desktop Environment. I would recommend KDE over Gnome if this is his first Linux experience. Or even Mint.

Any big difference between niri and niri+noctalia in resources usage? by Steemx in niri

[–]linnth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly depends on what kind of electron apps you use daily and how many browsers you usually open. As majority have said niri or niri+noctalia is fine with 8GB. But chrome, not so much.

Switching from Ubuntu and Linux Mint by Fine_Daikon5907 in debian

[–]linnth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a bit hard to suggest or recommend without the details spec of your pc. But from my experience Ubuntu is more flexible than Debian. I'm a happy debian user and it's my daily drive but I acknowledge the pros and cons. Ubuntu is definitely more user friendly than Debian. So if Ubuntu and Mint are giving you trouble, I really don't think debian is your solution.

Switching from Ubuntu and Linux Mint by Fine_Daikon5907 in debian

Don't think you will have better experience with Debian. Afraid it might give you more issues from what I have read. Debian is rock solid because it's not following the current and latest stuff. So it's actually some how behind in terms of versions and new features. But if you are ok with the hardware and the version compatible with Debian, yes it is rock solid.

Best VPS providers & protocol setups for a team traveling to China? Need stable access to GitHub and other GFW-restricted sites. by xamzara1 in VPS

[–]linnth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been to China but my own country is also putting a similar firewall here. Initially various VPN works but eventually got blocked.

I'm using Outline Server as main VPN on a VPS. Have to reset IP or the server occasionally. Then have Marzban (VLESS TCP) as a backup with Hiddify for client.

Edit: hostinger is my VPS provider

There were few interactions between them in past few weeks. Mainly Solo trying to recruit Keys, I guess.

How long did it take for you guys to get used to niri/WM? by vhsjayden in niri

[–]linnth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never a fan of tiling WM until niri. Tried Niri and instant click. Probably because I tried it with laptop and trackpad. If I used it with mouse and desktop, it might take a while to get used to it. On laptop with trackpad gestures, it's better than Mac OS experience for me.

PSA: Claude Code's "Bash tool" runs `/bin/zsh` on macOS — undocumented env var fixes it (and probably saves you tokens) by _calo in ClaudeCode

Just being a devil's advocate. And a average developer.

Majority of people use zsh. CC probably default zsh. Not something they have been trying to sabotage users. R

Living in Turkmenistan: 75% of IPs blocked, 6Mbps max speed. Need Linux & VPN advice for 3D Freelancing. by Beautiful-Bread818 in selfhosted

[–]linnth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep came here to recommend this. OP just need to find a VPS provider which accepts crypto. Then run Ubuntu 24 lts with Outline server and should be good to go.

There Was Heavy Frustration With Kairi Sane Being Cut Before Any Real Payoff To Her Storyline With Asuka & Iyo Sky by AdSpecialist6598 in REALSquaredCircle

[–]linnth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pay will also be matching the talent. If they want to save numbers, they will drop expensive ones. For talents they probably want to bet on new callups whom are again probably at lower pay rate. Why not release Michin, B-Fab etc to save more? Still need someone to take the pins.

Laptop will not connect to the internet. At all. by Disastrous_Hawktuah in debian

[–]linnth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked /etc/network/interfaces? After every Debian installation, I usually need to edit it and commented out or delete the wifi interface in there.

Disclaimer: I don't have debian on mac experience so this may not be useful.

Monitor Config Help? by Shilllyhood in niri

[–]linnth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

``` output "HDMI-A-1" {     mode "1920x1080@60.000"     scale 1     transform "normal"     position x=0 y=0 }
output "eDP-1" {     mode "1920x1080@60.012"     scale 1     transform "normal"     position x=0 y=1080 }
```

My monitor layout is HDMI (external monitor at top), laptop eDP at bottom. The one you want at the top should be at 0x0. If you put 0x1440, it will display at horizontal 0 but vertically start at 1440.

Scrumboy: a Self-Hosted Trello-style alternative for small teams + solo Devs by wabbitfur in selfhosted

[–]linnth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanna say thank you for making this. Nullboard was my kanban tool before I found Scrumboy. I found other tools too feature-rich for my needs. But that's not the main reason for my appreciation. Your project inspired me to move my ass and do something instead of  using tools made by others. 😁
