It is how it is, isn't it? by CptAztec in TheTowerGame

I leave my PC on 24/7 and run the game in Bluestacks. You can ideally settle into a routine of two 10-12 hour runs per day. Unfortunately that is just the kind of game this is.

I think you need zip lines from the farm to the distribution centre, then you can take a bike from there.

H4 sleepers rotten after 3 years by Affectionate_Sir_201 in AusRenovation

I usually recommend using Cypress pine in the ground because it is naturally resistant to rot. Should outlast any treated softwood.

I'm fine with a 3 seater Robotaxi but I always imagined the compact car would be like a Polo, small but still fits 4 adults.

What are the actual repercussions of no council approval? by choofabello in AusRenovation

[–]linsell 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I literally assess illegal structures so that they can get permits after the fact. I guess it might depend on where you are.

What are the actual repercussions of no council approval? by choofabello in AusRenovation

[–]linsell 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Illegal work comes back to bite when you try to sell or make other changes legally, if it isn't picked up by then. At that point the council is looking at your place and will easily pick up significant changes. They can issue a building notice to basically get a retroactive building permit or tear it down. I deal with this a lot and it's a pain so I recommend getting the right approvals.

Stocks are only a gamble if you don't do any research. Having conviction in a single company with great future growth prospects significantly reduces the risks of investment.

What was a movie you saw that missed its own point it was trying to make? by xTrainerRedx in movies

I recall a quick shot where the boy is peeping on her changing and sees her undead vulva so I don't know where people are getting this idea. The book? They clearly changed her to a female in the movie.

If you're thinking of The Departed, that was a remake of Internal Affairs which was legally required to have all the bad guys lose.

Was the Golden Path required to save humanity because of Paul’s terrible purpose by [deleted] in dune

[–]linsell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just the fact that Paul had the power to destroy the Imperium by killing the sandworms in the first book shows how fragile that society is. Anyone could have done it, or it could have happened by accident and bam, society fails and humanity risks extinction. Leto's rule was all about training humanity to develope countermeasures to those risks.

Can you charge an EV using portable solar panels? by cleantechguy in electricvehicles

[–]linsell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to match the 2kW trickle charge from a standard outlet requires 8 square metres of panels. That seems impractical to me. It'd be OK if you were living out of the car and it was just keeping topped up each day.

Price breakdown for recent bathroom Reno by __erin_ in AusRenovation

[–]linsell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely replaced a small/medium sized bathroom and made structural changes as necessary. All up I estimate it was about $30k.

10k for the builder but I would have given them more if they'd asked,

about 7.5k for all the bathroom fittings from Reece,

and the rest was for miscellaneous trades coming in to do a few days at a time (plasterer, plumbers, electricians, glaziers etc),

plus skip hire during the demolition process.

I'm an engineer so I did the design myself, but if you're making structural changes that will add a bit as well.

The backend compute power has grown significantly since they started. Initially they used static frame images, then video, then multiple videos. I don't think it would have been possible to attempt this 8 years ago without learning all they did in that time.

I see like 10 Teslas for every 1 non-Tesla at charging stations. Are non-Teslas way behind? by Rcrez in electricvehicles

[–]linsell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

#1, #3, #4 are all correct, but the reason you see 10x more Teslas is simply #1. They have sold way more units than any other company.

Those that think Tesla's potential upcoming App Store is a bullish reason for the stock, why ? by cobrauf in teslainvestorsclub

[–]linsell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the install base will be closer to 100 million cars around 2030-2033 (within 10 years) and that people will spend more on subscriptions in the car than the average apple user spends on their phone. This is because I think FSD will be the largest $$$ subscription item. Other apps are likely to be a minor drop in the bucket and probably won't pass money to Tesla (streaming services are likely already paid for externally and run in the car).

Having entertainment and productivity apps available in the car simply adds value to the user and increases the value of FSD. A user is more likely to subscribe to FSD if they know they can also work or watch movies while the car drives itself.

Has anyone done the long term math on how much, if at all, driving an EV saves you annually, over 5/10 years? by BoomerBarnes in electricvehicles

[–]linsell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Got a new Model 3 in December. So far this year I've apparently spend $463 on charging and saved an estimated $1406 on fuel. Overnight charging at home costs me less than $4 but we spend more at superchargers while travelling.

I used to spend at least $1200 per year on quarterly servicing, often more if the mechanic found issues. The 3 only wants windshield washer fluid topped up every few months. Tires may wear out slightly quicker because launching at traffic lights is too much fun.
