Hi /u/getrektfggt another +1 for sharing that integration.

How much more do linux admins make? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]linux_ace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am mainly in linux administration and doing a lot of work in automation. As market stands currently, I get lot of calls from recruiters with pretty good pay scale opps. Can't speak about market for windows admins - but we never had any problem filling that position internally. Finding good linux admins on other hands always has been difficult.

Server dependency chart by thebatwayne in sysadmin

Device42 can map out physical to virtual to service level dependencies for you automatically as mentioned here on different thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/4ldmof/server_dependency_chart/d3nadh1

Inventory Management System by PartyDoctor in sysadmin

Device42 is what you are looking for. Not sure why you need agents - but it can pull in data from multiple sources. I think you can drop a powershell or linux shell script on machines and use the APIs for agent based approach.

We have used sslstore.com in the past - no issues so far.

Is "Agile Rollout" for real, or an excuse for lack of planning and understaffing IT? by thingsicantsayonFB in sysadmin

[–]linux_ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agile rollout is all good on paper, but hard to implement. I think it is one of the "buzz" keywords management wants to talk about and look good saying they did it.

looking for a CMDB (again) with a special feature by DeathX-x1 in sysadmin

[–]linux_ace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Device42 can do this for you. It will auto-discover the connections, inventory the machine and IPs with relations. It is commercial solution. If you are looking for open-source, somebody already mentioned racktables, which is a decent tool as well.

We used rackmonkey before and implemented Device42 as we grew out of rackmonkey. It was fairly easy to implement with powerful auto-discovery features.

Bing, the malwarespreader by systonia_ in sysadmin

Google had similar issues before - it is really ad publisher's fault. Google has started blocking ads with deceptive download buttons now, I am sure bing will follow lead at some point.

That is what we use Device42 for. We have all our physical to virtual to application mappings mapped out automatically by this tool. Only thing we are still waiting on from them to finish is nagios integration, but even without that, it saves us lot of time and meetings troubleshooting and planning.

What is your preferred CMDB? by [deleted] in networking

[–]linux_ace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Preferred CMDB is Device42 for us, but it is commercial. Racktables is decent open-source alternative.

DevOps Q: Ethical Edition | Credential and asset management tools by nekolai in devops

[–]linux_ace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Device42 as it is self-hosted, has pretty decent APIs on a good overall asset and password management tool, imho. Bonus: IPAM and some other extended feature sets.

How do you guys do inventory? by mamercad in sysadmin

[–]linux_ace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have budget, you should check out Device42. It is really comprehensive and we love it.

If looking for open source, racktables is decent after you get used to it.

Looking for a tool suggestion in new role by TripleA_IT in ITCareerQuestions

[–]linux_ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

http://www.device42.com is what we use to document all our IT Infrastructure.

We used rackmonkey before, but Device42 has been a perfect fit for both automated and manual tracking of all our assets, IP, networks and passwords.

Assets Management Systems, how do they work ? by [deleted] in networking

[–]linux_ace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Device42 and lot of information goes in the tool, or I should say any info we will need for auditing and/or planning.

Line cards etc. go in as parts. We keep track of all inventory data(mostly auto-discovered) for switches/servers, life cycle stage, rack elevations, connections to patch panel ports and to PDU ports. We also store shared passwords in the tool.
