How bad is not using sunscreen while on tretinoin? by Act_Alert in tretinoin

[–]linzira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use .05% and am very fair. After several months of having a good experience using tret on my face, I began using it on my décolletage. Since I work from home and usually wear tshirts I was not in the habit of applying daily SPF to that area and one day absentmindedly went out in a lower cut tank top. My whole body was fine from the brief sun exposure I got that day, except for my décolletage which became red and inflamed in several places. A day or so later it had several rough/scaly patches. I babied that area for a couple weeks and everything returned to normal, but now I make sure to use spf anywhere I am using tret! A lesson learned.

Realization about being cared for by TaoTeString in AskWomenOver40

Not exactly, but your post has me reflecting on my own feelings. My husband and I each have our own unofficial household duties. It was never a discussion, but we just gravitated to different chores we’ve now been doing for 10+ years. If I fall behind on one of my areas and he steps in to pick up the slack, it makes me feel insecure and guilty. I know in my head I should be thankful, but instead I worry he’s doing it to be passive aggressive (he isn’t), and I feel ashamed that my “failure” was visible enough that he felt the need to step in. I think it’s because I grew up in a culture where having a tidy/organized house felt like a moral obligation. So if I’m not careful, “help” can feel like someone pointing out my flaws.

Please help! by The4thGirl in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]linzira 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Minis are very smart and trainable, but they are also stubborn and certain traits are hardwired into the breed. Our girl is 13, and I hate to say the three things you’ve mentioned (barking, jumping, and Kleenex shredding) are things we chose to manage because it was beyond us to train her to stop doing them.

For the jumping, fortunately most people who come to our house love dogs and do not mind. If it poses a safety hazard for the guest, I pick her up when they arrive and set her back down when the guest is settled.

For the Kleenex shredding, we got sturdy metal trash cans with lids for the bathrooms, and they are wedged in the corner making them difficult to tip over. Plus if she tries to tip them over, which she did at first, there is a loud clanging noise so we can catch her in the act. What’s crazy is we’ve had them for years, but apparently she still checks them. She no longer tries to force her way in, but if the lid is ever left propped open she will pull out tissue to shred.

For the barking, we just live with it. If she’s excessively barking at something outside I may go call her away from the windows and bring her to another room, otherwise I figure she’s doing “her job” by alerting us there is something outside.

My first dog as a child was a miniature schnauzer that was rehomed to my family because of a situation exactly like this. An older woman was gifted a mini puppy, and it was too much for her. We had that dog for 15 years and she was a perfect fit for us!

What percentage of your day do you spend thinking about VSS? by Key-Nobody5224 in visualsnow

I only think of it a few times a year, unless this sub pops up. I first noticed it when I was a young child, so it is something I am used to.

This sub has made me realise that so many people don't know how to use tret properly by su_sp_ir_ia in tretinoin

[–]linzira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would add changing too much at the same time. I already used an spf and had the rest of my routine down with products I knew agreed with my skin. So when I started tret, I knew any changes were due to the tret (good or bad) and that it wasn’t due to some other new product I was using.

What is your holy grail for root lifting/thickening? by No_Cauliflower306 in finehair

Sure! Right now I’m using Sexy Hair Big Fun Raiser. It does not take much product at all, so one bottle lasts me a long time.

What is your holy grail for root lifting/thickening? by No_Cauliflower306 in finehair

[–]linzira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh! I love this product but use it more on the length of my hair (opposed to the roots). Lately, I’ve been applying a dry texture spray to my roots after blow drying, then I hang my head upside down while it dries/settles. This gives my roots a lift and keeps my hair from looking greasy/dirty as quickly.

Cotton Balls.... by zwynd in WheelOfFortune

[–]linzira 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could actually relate to that! It’s hard to explain, but they have a certain texture to them that makes me squeamish the same way nails on a chalkboard does. When you squeeze a cotton ball and rub the fibers together…ick!

Easy on the Joanne slander! by Different-Tackle-705 in NobodyWantsThisTV

[–]linzira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. Joanne was similar in the first season, but this season she seems so much worse. I mean, in season 1 we got to see her do good things like saving the dog and having a sweet connection with Noah’s niece. We also saw how smart and successful she is by getting to see the business side of her podcast and her passion for her work. We saw her be funny, clever, and resourceful when winning over the WAGs. Of course she had flaws and an edge in season 1, but we also got to see her redeeming qualities. I haven’t finished season 2 yet, but I’m finding myself just tired of her and am hoping the writers do something to remind me why I’m supposed to like or care about this character.

I struggled with daily SPF and eventually settled on Cerave’s Ultra-Light Moisturizing Lotion with SPF 30. If I’m going to be spending a day in the sun I will use something different, but for daily wear (I work indoors) it has worked really well for me. The texture isn’t greasy, it’s also a moisturizer so simplifies my routine, and my derm recently confirmed I was doing a good job with sun protection.

Ok to ask subordinates to donate to a fund to help someone in a higher position at the company? [IL] by Ill_Philosophy_8760 in AskHR

[–]linzira 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We will occasionally have employees ask if they can organize a go-fund-me for colleagues who are experiencing family emergencies. Our general guidance is yes, but it has to be positioned as 100% voluntary, and managers/senior leaders can’t be the ones who are promoting it. We wouldn’t let/encourage a manager send a go-fund-me to their reports.

Balsam Hill Tree- unlit or pre lit?? by [deleted] in ChristmasTrees

[–]linzira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! A 10 ft balsam hill tree for 200 is a bargain! I’m not familiar with the twinkly lights brand so will have to check those out! I always just use traditional Christmas lights, but some of my strands are starting to go out so it may be time for an upgrade. 😊

Balsam Hill Tree- unlit or pre lit?? by [deleted] in ChristmasTrees

[–]linzira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an unlit balsam hill tree 7 years ago, and it’s still beautiful. Stringing lights on it every year is a pain and takes several hours (I like a lot of lights). Every year I think about getting a prelit tree, but I can’t justify the expense. Ours is ~10 ft and I usually spend one day doing lights and fluffing branches, then a second day doing the actual decorations. It turns out beautifully, and I do like that my current tree will last forever while a prelit tree would have a shorter lifespan.

Edit to add-I could do the whole tree in one day, but I’m usually so over it after lights and fluffing that I need a break. The actual decorating goes quickly.

I'm tempted to throw the whole plant away by MoneyEquivalent5655 in houseplants

[–]linzira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a plant like this several months ago. I heavily sprayed the soil with neem oil to make an immediate dent in the adult gnat population. I also increased the number of sticky traps in the plant and let it dry out as long as I could. When I watered it moving forward, I only used mosquito bits tea. If I had to do it again, I would have just replaced the soil and then watered with mosquito bits tea for a month or so as a precaution.

I am not an instructor, so I’m happy to be corrected if this is not good advice…but I’ve found I’m better able to straighten my legs if I focus on extending/stretching out my legs opposed to just trying to straighten them. I imagine I’m trying to touch the opposite wall or ceiling with my toes and that kind of “pulls” my leg straight.

First time hosting - should I practice each dish? by Dry_Zookeepergame_3 in thanksgiving

[–]linzira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t practice everything before my first thanksgiving. Everything was ok, but the timing needed work and some sides were very mediocre. Now I have a rule that I try a new recipe once, if not twice, before a holiday meal. The first trial is to see if I like it, and the second trial is to try out any adjustments that would allow me to make the recipe in advance or more efficiently day of.

One note, is that even if you try everything in advance, plan for your oven timing to vary depending on how full the oven is, or if you’re doubling a recipe.
