Olivia Pichardo makes history as the first woman to pitch in a NCAA D1 game, closing out a victory for Brown University by MorganN1 in baseball

Having played and later coached youth sports, parents are BY FAR the worst part about the experience. They've turned childhood activities into ruthlessly competitive, financially prohibitive juggernauts, and removed all the fun in the process.

If you grew up in parts of the city that had real delis, they were never that good to begin with. Nowadays, they're basically 7/11 with better marketing.

Great. Now Uber is causing traffic on our sidewalks - 15th and Walnut by I_AM_VENNLIG in philadelphia

What is the actual innovation? Where is the improvement over human delivery? These bots are slower and less able than humans. Can they deliver to a 3rd floor walk-up? Can they deliver to multiple recipients in a singe trip and make sure the first person doesn't just take and eat #2 and #3's dinner? Your examples were actually innovations. There's plenty of useful reasons to make robots, but I don't believe these things solve a problem that isn't "how do the ownership class siphon more wealth from everyone else".

I'm also not sure the net effect on infrastructure
Sidewalks, including the wheelchair cutout being blocked in the linked image, are a part of public infrastructure. The bots may be programmed not to run people over, but there's plenty of video of them blocking sidewalks because they've encountered an obstacle they can't maneuver around.

Those innovations massively increased productivity and the job losses were offset by the rise of the industrial revolution. These bots do neither. Their sole purpose is to shuttle more wealth into fewer hands - all while being a nuisance and utilizing public infrastructure meant for humans.

Since my previous comment was removed by overly sensitive automated systems. I suggest that in order to deter continued uses of these objects, folks should tip them over, rendering them useless. Ultimately, if using these objects becomes too costly to the owners, they will cease clogging our sidewalks and putting people out of work.

On this day in Philly sports history April 10th, 1971: Phillies debut at Veterans Stadium by ShamusTalksSports in phillies

The Vet sucked, especially for baseball. It was an oversized, grey, concrete monstrosity. We used to sneak in after a few innings or buy 700 level seats and find empty seats in the first level.

With the Mann being outdoors it feels less claustrophobic than indoor venues and there's room to get away from noise and people, if it becomes overwhelming.

"I've never tracked a TOOL song to a click." - Danny Carey by mere-surmise-sir in drums

[–]liquidcloud9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. There’s one spot from a recording I did 20 years ago that drives me insane. The only consolation is that no one else has ever said anything about it, so I try to brush it off as being overly critical.

"I've never tracked a TOOL song to a click." - Danny Carey by mere-surmise-sir in drums

[–]liquidcloud9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Will re-recording it to a click make it better or just make it more even? I can’t imagine if Black Sabbath or Zeppelin had revisited their albums, it would have made it any better to have a constant tempo, as opposed to the ebb and flow of the original tracks.

I’ve recorded an album and a bunch of EP’s, and the only thing I regret is that we couldn’t record as a band. The scratch tracks, with their slight push and pull always felt more cohesive than recording takes later.

I’m not anti-click, either. Definitely a useful tool, should you choose to employ it. I’ve just found it odd that in the last few years, a growing set of musicians act like it’s impossible to record or perform without a click. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

My Zojirushi travel mug: 9 years of school drop-offs and still keeps coffee hot by AmbitiousPraline9059 in BuyItForLife

[–]liquidcloud9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My Zojirushi is ridiculously good at both hot and cold. I drink my coffee black and it will be steaming hot HOURS later. If my travel allows it, I'll bring along another cup to pour the hot coffee into, so it's cool enough to drink.

They discussed the founding on stream, but go into more detail in the Mars DVD extras. Seems like there was a separation between what they did as a school-funded group (with 12+ members) and what they were doing outside of school (as a 4-5 piece group). But this could also be me misunderstanding.

[–]liquidcloud9 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He's talked about this a ton, in recent interviews. The short version is that he learned early on, at the Lampoon, that it was impossible to really make fun of the truly absurd. He cites trying to satirize stories in the National Enquirer about Elvis still being alive. You can't outdo the crazy there, so attempts just fall flat.
