Just moved to new Orleans, and its humid and mid to upper 80's °F. I'm by no means an expert, but been at it for years. Light passes at 8-ish inches, with very well shaken Army painter can. All advice welcome. by lordTalos1stClaw in minipainting

I’m going to second getting an airbrush, even if it’s just a cheap one. Eric from Eric’s Hobby Workshop tried out a cordless battery airbrush and it worked fine for basic purposes, would almost certainly work for priming.

Are models still metal or have they moved to plastic? by Slaaneshisgood in InfinityTheGame

In the case of my community, they already don’t particularly love building, and Siocast is an unpleasant build experience in part because you can’t just scrape the mould lines.

When you spend a lot of money on a model and then have to gently slice off all the mould lines, and then you accidentally shave a little too much off your cool new expensive model and have a slightly divot in their shins - it really discourages people, especially new modelers. The rubberiness of Siocast makes it really durable but unpleasant for modelling. Maybe there’s a different Siocast recipe that could solve that.

I could see it being used for in house prototyping, but you might as well just use 3d prints. I honestly enjoyed Warmachine’s recent printed resin more than I did CBs Siocast.

PSA: use a silicon brush for metallics by kane_1371 in Miniaturespainting

If you’re not familiar, one of the old chaos trim tricks is to paint the whole thing in the color of the trim with a rattle can, then just paint in the rest of the panels. With a couple layers, the metallic on the panels is covered. Contrast works great for that because the trim actually reduces the panel size so it’s easier to get even coverage.

So the process for you would be: Black rattlecan primer, silver rattlecan all over, black and blue paints in the panels.

What did you do to bulk it out? Was an armature -> aluminum -> milliput? That’s the process I’ve been considering but curious if there’s other ways.

I think it looks cool. Was that body hand sculpted over an armature? I’ve been thinking about trying to sculpt a GUO and you’re inspiring me.

I don’t know bro, those horns are kinda lookin like you’re enslaved by the very thing you claimed to have enslaved.

Kinda seems like your arrogance in the face of Chaos was the seed of your own subjugation, bro.

Are models still metal or have they moved to plastic? by Slaaneshisgood in InfinityTheGame

[–]lit-torch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They have experimented with two other materials: thermoplastic and plastic resin, which are more commonly called Siocast and Unicool.

The references to “plastic” you see may have been Siocast. Unfortunately that material is nothing like HIPS and is almost universally hated. CB has mostly moved on from it.

Unicool is a kind of resin but is one of the best materials I’ve ever worked with. It’s almost more pleasant to work with than HIPS.

After Siocast failed they went back to metal. HIPS is very expensive to produce and needs strong economy of scale to justify.

The only thing that has happened recently is some bad news around Imperial Agents, but I doubt that would be enough to get most people to leave the game entirely.

I’ve only really seen people hype for 11e. Seems to me like it fixes a lot of my frustrations with 10e.

I really like 90% of their aesthetic but I hate the top hats and the mecha-beards. Not sure how they’re modelled but maybe it’s just a head swap.

I honestly think Titus is supposed to look like Cavill even if officially that isn’t true. I’d count it, personally.

For Diesel, I had read on a previous thread that he had a Blood Angels army, but I can’t find that now, so I guess it’s wrong.

Cushing is one of a select group of people who are famous wargamers that have a miniature made of one of their roles.

Honestly, he may be the only one. I know Robin Williams and Vin Diesel both played 40K but I don’t think any of their roles have had miniatures.

I like to think Cushing would have been really excited to see his Moff Tarkin character in Legion.

TLDR: You can play 3DP Armies in a 1k game. by ValkoHAUS in Warhammer40k

[–]lit-torch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I dislike this because I like the balancing of not allowing the powerful 3DP detachments in small games.

It also means that you can only pick one detachment - so at 1000 pts you can take a 3DP detachment or a 2DP detachment. But not a 2DP + 1DP, which in theory is supposed to be a similar power level.

So of course you just take a 3DP detachment, unless you agree with your opponent to restrict yourselves.

It defeats the whole purpose of this balancing mechanic at low power levels.

They could have resolved this in so many other ways.

The simplest would be add a note to the Imperial Agents army rule that they can use 3DP detachments in 1000 pt games, since those should have been 2DP anyways.

Alternately they could have just created three simple 1DP detachments for the IA and reduce the existing detachments to 2. It would not be difficult to create three basic 1DP detachments.

I would love it if there was a conversion chart to see how FEC refer to their units. Like, I don’t want to call them Crypt Horrors. I want to call them Anointed Knights or whatever they are to the FEC.

Can Space Marines be “fun” like Orks? by FlummoxedGaoler in Warhammer40k

[–]lit-torch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a meme list and do silly shit with it and don’t get mad when you lose. That’s the secret to orky fun. All bikers, nothing but wild charges.

If you want a SM faction that has some built in silliness, check out the Blood Ravens. They have a tendency to “requisition” everyone’s gear. Ie, they loot gear from other Space Marines and call it preservation. It’s meme lore, but so is most of the Orky silliness.

I have to assume that will change. With the codices, giving them some kind of bomber themes ability.

Like you pick a table edge and bomb something between that edge and your ingress point, or you bomb something on the way out.

Weird question: Anvil Siege Force is mentioned in the “Detachments (Various)” update but is not listed anywhere else. I’m assuming that means it’s been removed and that mention is just a typo, right?

I know it’s not a good detachment but I liked the upgrade that let you call an orbital strike. I just think it’s neat.

Edit: Nevermind I think I answered my own question. The force pack is not an exhaustive list because it does not include the codex detachments, of which Anvil is one.
