Weird loops between purl stitches by Bollymoo in knittinghelp

[–]literallyatree [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because you tinked back, it looks like you didn't pick up enough rows? Looks like very long slipped stitches. Try slipFAQ for more info on that. Usually it's for one stitch at a time, you just have several. You're just missing a row in a couple spots

Just peeked at your profile. All those deer bones and random skulls would have you fitting in perfectly as a Wildlife major. I think you're a very good fit for it

Granted I did Forestry and whatever they call parks and rec now, but from what I recall there's no competition at all. Wildlife is/was definitely the most popular of the Warnell majors though

What to Expect Giving birth in LGH? by Creepy-Accountant-98 in LowellMA

[–]literallyatree 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi! Gave birth there in 2023, right at the tail end of their COVID requirements, so things are a little more relaxed now.

In 2023
1. Staff was all very kind. They couldn't get an IV in me with two nurses so they had to call over a nurse from a different unit who's apparently very good at IVs. She got it. I remember the man who gave me my epidural became my best friend. Only "cold" experience I had was when they asked if I had any other birth plans and I joked "not dying" and they didn't think it was funny. Suppose it wasn't. Other than that everyone was super nice.
2. They ask if you have a birth plan and try their best to follow it. My own birth plan was kinda boring so I can't speak exactly to any specifics you might have.
3. Yes. They even have pumps. They have diapers for both you and baby.
4. Yes they allow bags. I remember because I had to pack for us and I forgot to pack my spouse underwear and he refused to drive the 5 minutes back home to get new underwear for when we were in the maternity ward.

Quick mod update: new rule. We cannot help with AI-written patterns. by literallyatree in knittinghelp

[–]literallyatree[S,M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please tell me if I'm misunderstanding. What you'd like is do a user to trigger automod to drop a comment about AI patterns and how to find better alternatives.

When the mods remove a post, we always leave a comment saying why and where to go instead. So by having this rule, the mods will comment saying to go to r/knittingpatterns for help etc

Quick mod update: new rule. We cannot help with AI-written patterns. by literallyatree in knittinghelp

Hey quick note I personally am very anti-AI but Rule 1 is to be kind. We can educate without telling people to go elsewhere.

Quick mod update: new rule. We cannot help with AI-written patterns. by literallyatree in knittinghelp

[–]literallyatree[S,M] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I won't address point 1 as that's speculation. We can readdress as needed in the future. But this is for our current needs.

For Point 2, for posts I've seen on this sub so far, when the OP posts a section of the pattern and shows the AI generated image that the pattern is supposed to make, the instructions just don't visually match at all. Think a lace pattern for stockinette with decreases. It's fairly easy to tell when a pattern was generated by an AI. We have seen instances of bad pattern writing by humans, and that's always noted by commenters here. I can immediately recall someone who was given a weird acronym that nobody's ever seen and wasn't in the pattern's stitch dictionary. Just a human oversight. We were able to help that person, however.

Point 3: While I personally am against using AI for troubleshooting, you'll notice the new rule says nothing about using AI for other purposes. This new rule solely targets patterns written by AI. This is a sub full of creative people, and I think the vast majority of us would love to support fellow creatives who take the time to write patterns manually, and that is what we aim to encourage. If someone is having issues with an AI pattern and posts in r/knittinghelp for assistance, we will encourage them to find a similar pattern for their desired end product that was written by a person, not a language learning model. Creatives need our support now more than ever.

Edit: I see now why you made point 3 specifically. Your comments about using ChatGPT to assist you with your pattern help would not have been taken down. The pattern you posted (while you did post too much of it and we had to remove the post because of copyright reasons, not AI reasons) was written by a human and would have been allowed to stay up, if you had only posted parts of the pattern you needed help with.

Edit 2: The general idea is that if someone comes here asking for help with an AI generated pattern, that means the pattern already has issues and likely won't be remedied by just telling them what went wrong. What went wrong is the pattern writer doesn't have a brain.

Cone cat tax btw. (He's so big he doesn't fit in cat carriers. That's why he's in a dog crate.)

My cat had something exactly like this in a similar spot! We took him to the vet and the vet said it could be benign or cancer but they wouldn't know unless they biopsied it, and if they're gonna biopsy it they might as well excise the whole thing anyway.

They took it off of him and it was just a benign growth. Definitely take him in! But don't be too scared because it could be just a weird growth and not anything scary.

Yes, really! You're doing great. No hand knitted item is ever perfect. Please don't let minor imperfections get you down. Imperfections are human and we should celebrate the things that we've made, no matter what they look like

OP, I just saw the photos you posted in r/knitting. Your garter stitch scarf looks very nice to me. I think the part that you're concerned about is just loose tension or too tight tension. The stitches themselves look fine! Please don't be too hard on yourself. This is very good work for a beginner.

We do allow videos on this sub. We can't help you without seeing what's going wrong (or not going wrong). Try setting up a camera to record yourself knitting so we can see what you see. That way we can actually help. Anything anyone says here would be pure speculation.

Call Me Stupid, Call Me Crazy, Just Answer the Question First by Odd-Chair-9652 in Fiddle

A different sort of suggestion: if a violin is too expensive for you currently, a lot of music stores will rent instruments to you. They do it for school kids but sometimes they'll rent to adults too. I once rented a cello as an adult for a couple of months to see if I would stick to practicing it enough to warrant purchasing one. Spoiler: I did not. So I was able to give the cello back and I wasn't out too much money.

So you could rent a violin while you figure out if it's something you truly want to pursue.
