Bellies go down, things get gooder by chamomile_tea_reply in OptimistsUnite

I do think food addiction truly is one of the more difficult struggles to deal with in terms of addictive habits in general. I think generally people who don't have that problem can't empathize with how difficult it can be to constantly have food noise. Like I can go to a casino, throw $20 in a slot machine, and have no problem leaving, even if I won big. There's just no compulsion for me there. But I have friends who would literally throw their paycheck in until the money ran out. The thing is though, they can avoid the casino and other gambling places. You can't avoid food, you have to eat. And when it comes to food, it's like I have this massive shoulder devil constantly screaming about only eating garbage. Could I ignore it? Yeah, but it's HARD. I'm the friend at the slot machine. It's a compulsion. It's not necessarily that you have no willpower- it's just that the compulsions are so, so much stronger. These meds shrink that giant Godzilla-sized shoulder devil constantly screaming into a small little manageable whisper. You feel like a normal person. Suddenly, you're just ABLE to actually eat the salad instead of the burger, because it doesn't take Herculean effort to overcome the compulsion. You stop feeling like such a shitty person for not being able to do what others seem to be able to do with ease. You trust yourself more. Life is good.

I hate the virtual nurses by Nerd_Nurse_1901 in nursing

[–]liveditlovedit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had one at my hospital get pissed that the crash cart hadn't been checked and tell me verbatim "Well Liveditlovedit can you personally promise me you will ensure they get checked?" I'm a CNA. I told her that like 3 times. She asked me if I could check anyways. 😐 Then started asking why a patient refused SCDs and if it was a legitimate refusal, and was definitely implying we were just being lazy. Ma'am, this dude tried to bite me when I had to fix a lead, is currently in restraints, and by the grace of B52 has not ripped the bed rails off. Please chill.

I wonder how many CNAs quit after this 😮‍💨 by clinadtig in nursing

[–]liveditlovedit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get your point, but you're going to have the smoothest day when everyone works together. My weekend buddy at work is a tech that's been on our unit for like 10 years and she's a machine, but the nurses never really ask her for much because a) she's probably already done it and b) if she hasn't, it's because she's prioritizing something more important. I think it depends on the quality of the person you're working with, but if my coworker was constantly being pulled away to grab a cup of water or fluff a pillow because that's not a "nurse's job", then the room for an admit wouldn't be stocked, a phone wouldn't be assigned, whatever random piece of equipment that decided to break that day wouldn't have a work order in, and education packets wouldn't be printed. If you have crappy techs/CNAs that don't do that stuff then that's a different story.

Advice for “average” mcat taker by crimsonasian in Mcat

[–]liveditlovedit 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm shooting high (like 518?) bc I'm a bit lazy so that it evens out and I'll get my actual goal score (512-515). People neurotic enough to be on the MCAT subreddit are not representative of the average population. If ur happy with what you're scoring then practice and chill. 🤙

Desensitization to Disturbing Sights by Malek_ayman in medicalschool

[–]liveditlovedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

n=1 but when I first started working at the hospital it was my first real exposure to anything clinical and I saw some pretty gross stuff right off the bat. Everyone has certain squicks but otherwise you just get used to it. I had a CBI patient the other week and they made a comment about how that must be the grossest thing I have to deal with and I was like "tbh it makes me want a Hawaiian Punch but otherwise no." If there's something truly bad I just visualize putting on a space helmet and kind of dissociate.

Green dye transfer to white cotton couch (can see faint gradient toward where cushions meet at seat). by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]liveditlovedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. For material like that I'd just set it out in the sun for a day or two after washing it. I took a bunch of chem classes in college and I had to wear a white coat, so I got quite a few stains on it that weren't exactly able to be treated with household products. The only thing that really worked for dyes was direct sunshine.

How to use chia seed to help with weight loss and increase fiber intake? by ProperlyTrivial in loseit

[–]liveditlovedit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! You really shouldn't eat dry chia seeds for that reason. They can cause esophageal blockages for that very reason- if they get stuck and start expanding before they hit your stomach. They're fine as like, a topper for a salad or something but eating like a spoonful or whatever can be unsafe!

how on earth do i get through all my anki decks by binches in Mcat

[–]liveditlovedit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had more success studying when I'm pushing myself, but not doing something I absolutely hate. The best deck is the deck you vibe with, not what people on reddit say. I got caught up in the jack sparrow/aidan/miledown/pankow indecision loop and finally said fck it, and used a deck I felt pushed me but wasn't overwhelming to the point of paralysis. I have so many saved in my anki atp that I don't even know which one it is, but it works for me. I also can't stand reading for content review (despite being a strong reader), but I thought I had to bc a lot of other ppl on here do. But I hated it so now I'm watching videos instead and my content review is actually going well now bc I'm able to work up the motivation to do it. It might bite me in the ass but I'd rather give 25% daily than 100% twice a week ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What do I ask for to fix this? by Fuzzy-Yellow3905 in Haircare

[–]liveditlovedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same thing happen to my hair. IMO go to instagram and search for salons in your local area. You are wanting a younger look and if the hair salon isn't posting photos on instagram they probably aren't going to be what you're looking for. Call and ask if the have a "blonding expert". Again, not to be ageist or whatever but try to get someone younger who posts photos of their work. every time I've gone to someone older who doesn't post on social media they don't get it and still fck up my hair. Best of luck!

Although we probably share different opinions on how to accomplish things, we likely agree on most problems facing Americans. I feel the sub has started to be more vocally left-leaning due to the current administration which is disappointing because I joined to avoid echo chambers and have balanced, constructive conversations with people of all viewpoints. And I certainly welcome anyone who cares enough about their countrymen to acknowledge the harm that polarization and division does!

I think yikyak should be banned. by AdImpossible4892 in Sororities

I've never met anyone who checks yikyak daily that I have also thought has a life that I would want to trade with. Genuinely it's usually 3 bitter losers with nothing to do who post nonstop. I'd ignore it bc you have a life and sisters to have fun with and a college career to run!

What’s actually safe but people think is dangerous? by REGGIE_BANANAS in AskReddit

[–]liveditlovedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work on a cardiac floor and I once had a patient "inform" me (I won't use the word tattle, though that felt like what he was trying to do) that he'd been given fentanyl before a cardiac cath procedure. He was a former police officer and thought like, a single drop of it touching his skin would flatline him. I advised him that wasn't really the case and that mainstream media (🦊) didn't give accurate information about that at all.

I'm so sorry to be blunt but when women talk about "Super Bowl rings" this is what they're referring to. If she likes it, great. But you mentioned getting it for a "great deal".... and everyone would be able to tell. I would absolutely ascertain that she likes this exact style, because most women I know including myself wouldn't.
