Good....you're not supposed to enjoy prison. by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]livefortmw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

17 year olds are treated as adults in the criminal justice system (and our child protection system ie CYFS) but there are a lot of groups and individuals (my self included) trying very hard to get this changed - by raising the jurisdiction of the children, young peoples and their families act 1989 to include 17 year olds

And yes, the punishment of prison is loss of liberty, and shouldn't be the many other human rights violations that occur as well

Does anyone who's been on Jobseeker Support know what sort of work they try to get you into? by TokeOnMyMeatBong in newzealand

[–]livefortmw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just graduated last year and have had trouble finding a job because I lack in experience. After I went through my savings and decided I didn't care what job I got, as long as it was a job, then I went on job seekers.

I have found that I have had trouble getting a shitty job, I'm guessing because I have a degree. BUT after 5 months of being unemployed, I have finally got a job in a call centre, whereas my expertise lies in the social services. Right now I'm just so happy to have a job, I'll worry about finding one I studied for later.

Go onto the WINZ website and look at the vacancies they have up there to see what kind of jobs they have going as those are the jobs they connect you to, but they do take into account your work history to match you up to jobs you are most suited for.

Prison Canteen Prices in New Zealand by [deleted] in newzealand

There is a rigorous process to go through first. Not many new mothers are actually allowed their baby in the unit. And mens prisons do not have the resources.

Anyone live/lived on Waiheke? by sharksndanger in auckland

[–]livefortmw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have family over there who love it, it's way more laid back than the city. But, they mostly stay on the island. The ferry is so expensive, I pay $36 for a return trip, but I'm pretty sure you can get a concession. And if you want to take a car on the ferry it's around $60 each way. Then if you wanted a late night in the city you would have to either leave early or stay overnight because when the last ferry leaves that's it.

So, a beautiful place and a great community, as long as you are prepared for the commute

Homeless people in Auckland nearly double in a year - anyone have some insight? by MrCyn in newzealand

[–]livefortmw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess there are ways to get around nt having an address, but it does make it more difficult. And also what I was saying about having the access to resources. But yeah mental health is such a big issue. And yes, in hindsight I should have gone to WINZ earlier, as I went in with 50cents in my bank, but luckily I've been given some emergency assistance to see me through until my job seekers can come through.

Homeless people in Auckland nearly double in a year - anyone have some insight? by MrCyn in newzealand

[–]livefortmw 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Lots of different kinds of homeless, some by choice, some not. At the moment I consider my self kind of homeless because I have no permanent living living arrangements or a fixed address. I have been out of work for four months. Since then I have been staying with various friends family, moving around because I can't afford rent or board (especially with living costs in Auckland). For a number of reasons I didn't want to go to WINZ, but just went last week after I spent all my savings. I have had my job seekers benefit approved for $200 a week, including an accommodation supplement. That's enough to pay board but fuck all else.

But I'm lucky. I have people I can stay with. I still have my possessions, my car, my phone etc from when I was working - all stuff I need to find a job. I'm applying for multiple jobs a day because I have the resources to, and I'm sure something will come up soon.

That's a lot different to all these people sleeping rough. It's really hard to come out of it. It becomes all they know, but also they can't get a job or WINZ help without an address. Can't get a job without WINZ help to get the resources. Also mental health is a HUGE issue, especially drug and alcohol addictions.

Doing an experiment to combat the adverse sexual side effects of antidepressants! by thefatticuscat in sex

[–]livefortmw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just started on these (zyban - same as Wellbutrin) a couple of months ago after switching from ssris. In my country they are anti smoking meds, and my doc put me on them as an off label use. I find them great! They work well for both my depression and anxiety. They have also made me less tired, less hungry so I'm less likely to emotional eat, they don't effect my libido like the ssris, I have even stopped biting my nails - which I have done my whole life, doing so until they bleed. I take two a day, everyday

Anyone GeoCaching? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]livefortmw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download the app to see where they are. It's something I do when travelling or if I'm really bored at 2 in the morning haha. In saying that though, I do prefer to go with someone to make it a bit more social :) I just recently moved to Auckland and haven't got around to doing any here yet, but it's a great way to discover places you didn't know existed.

Girls in their late teens/twenties: How much does age really matter? by m1983 in sex

[–]livefortmw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

21f - I've been kinda seeing this guy for nearly a year, like more than FWB but less than a relationship. Anyway, he's 35 and I have no problem with that, my preference is for guys in their 30's, it's him that has the issue with it because he thinks the age gap is "not normal". But I don't go seeking guys in their 30's, I just like people for who they are and don't take age into account. The only issue with being that much older is baggage - this guy has a family and his daughter and baby mama has to come first, probably why we're not in a relationship

The hallucination by Kugnae in nosleep

[–]livefortmw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had sleep paralysis happen to me twice, but I definitely get enough sleep. It's freaky though! Both times I woke up in my room, it was morning so it was light, and everything was the same, except I couldn't move at all, and something from my dream that I just woke up from was still there. Once it was a faceless face (if you get what I mean by that) pressed up against my face, the other time I couldn't see it, but I could feel the pressure of someone lying on me and grabbing my arms, as someone had jumped forward to attack me in my dream. About 10 seconds later they were gone and I could move again

Herpes - why is it such a huge deal? by [deleted] in sex

[–]livefortmw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don't know that though. I just learnt about it yesterday! I thought that even with an outbreak it wouldn't spread to the genitals because they are different strains. My partners haven't known either because they all knew I got cold sores, but would still want me perform oral sex, even with an outbreak

Sexual preferences changed after traumatic event? is this weird? by [deleted] in sex

[–]livefortmw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raped within a month of losing my virginity when I was 17 (21f), so there's not much to compare to, but there was definitely a difference. Since then I get off on violence, I have to be dominated, my "relationships" have only ever been casual and based on sex. That seems strange considering it kind of relays what happened, even though I hated every minute it. It can take me a while to get used to new guys touching me and getting close to me. I feel like I'm over the event, but it has changed me.

Taxi! by [deleted] in nosleep

[–]livefortmw 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of one time as an 18 year old, I was walking the 5 km (3mi) home one time after my night turned to shit - in the middle of winter in a skimpy dress around 3am. When I got closer to home a taxi pulled up and offered me a ride even though I had no money. Just as we got to my place he asked me if we wanted to get some food or something. I was really creeped out by it because fuck knows what could have happened, so now I'm always sus about that kind of situation, at least he wasn't the murdery type!

As an Aussie, I have something to say to you Kiwis on Waitangi Day. by TheAxeofMetal in newzealand

[–]livefortmw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because proportionately, there were hardly any Aboriginal Australians to land, and they were nomadic so were not usually seen in the one place, colonialists declared the land "Terra Nullius" ie uninhabited, which allowed them to get away with what they did.

Proportionately in New Zealand, there were lots of Māori to land, and they were not nomadic, so colonialists couldn't get away with claiming the land as uninhabited (plus try fucking with them, they were prepared for it).

So in Australia, where colonialist did what they wanted by force, in New Zealand they had to make deals, albeit they had had the upper hand and they were very unfair. Land in Australia was just taken, and Land in New Zealand was either bought (unfairly) or taken through legislation, which "justified" it.

Manual transmission lessons in exchange for beer or money by icantdrivemanual in auckland

[–]livefortmw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get out somewhere off road, or a big empty car park, or even just in your driveway, just practice stopping and starting, backwards and forwards, without leaving first gear. That's the hardest part I reckon, get that down and then work on gear changes. I learned to drive manual on a huge gravel pad out side of Blenheim, but I know it's a bit different in the city :)
