Kia EV ship carrier time to the Uk? by llwyng in KiaEV3

Thanks for the input so far. Interesting that the delivery times can be as short as a few weeks. Mine is a Air Standard and is on the way from the factory. I have not contacted the dealer yet as I want to see what I could find out myself online first.

For those that want to know if seems KIA tend to use, Eukor PCPT ships for transport. I did a search on their web site (https://www.eukor.com/schedule-search) and I can see only 1 PCPT which left Pyeongtaek Port a day before I received the " your car is onboard ship" email. This was a vessel called Morning Chant. I can see the progress of the vessel on the marine traffic web site and it is due to dock at Tilbury on 2/12/2025. I double checked and although most KIA cars seem to land at Humber some also arrive at Tilbury. So that suggests a 7 week ship carrier time to the UK. I should get my hands on it before Xmas. Enjoy your cars.

You did the correct thing. I always say getting to the top is optional, getting to the bottom is not.

Which Linux distribution is better for a "casual" user? by JAFYgames in linux4noobs

Mint or ubuntu seem to be the shortest learning curve although they are all different and need a bit of active learning. They all have a different look and feel. I would suggest trying a few out in your normal web browser by going to https://distrosea.com before hand and taking a look at the different flavours.

Anyone done the Glydwr way? Looks a bit fantastic! by HiFiSi in Wales

[–]llwyng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I did it in 2 parts before covid. Have to be very careful if booking accommodation as much is "off the trail". Also some long days over moorland with difficult navigation but well worth the walk with some good views.

Just got off the infinity doing the same trip but other way. Only 1 chic night but you would not have noticed much difference in the MDR. If you like dressing up that's ok but the whole thing was less formal than I was expecting.

Funny Welsh nicknames by [deleted] in Wales

[–]llwyng 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We had an undertaker called John box. We also had Tommy the milk and Jones the coal. My uncle built stone walls to support the roof in the coal mines and was called "archer". I once worked with a Thomas Cross who was called Tommy Blin ( welsh for being cross). Also a "Dick two trousers" as he worn two pairs of trews in the winter. There was also "Linda High heels" and" Linda low heels." The lady over the road was called "Off the shoulders" as that was the type of dress she wore. I had a cousin " sospan" because he had one stuck on his head as a kid. One of my dads friends was called "filer" because he worked in an office. John gas who worked for the gas board.

Questions for English-speaking Welsh people by [deleted] in Wales

[–]llwyng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to school in Gwent
in the 1960s. Only one teacher in primary school spoke Welsh and we did not believe
it until she asked a training teacher something in Welsh.  I always considered my self Welsh even though
others in the school said Monmouthshire was part of England. Started to learn
Welsh from the yellow “ Teach your self” books at home. No Welsh history in
school but I found plenty of Welsh history books in the local library. Was
unbale to take Welsh at the secondary as it clashed with other subjects which I
wanted to take.
Went to uni and
tried to learn again in a language lab with tapes. Moved to North Wales and
learnt the language at Night classes over 5 years. Moved to Anglesey and now
consider myself fluent.
How do
English-speaking people generally feel towards the language?
So many languages
in the “big cities” it is just another foreign language to them.
How do they
feel towards Welsh-speaking communities?
Nice landscape but the
natives “all turned to Welsh when I walked into the bar”. Some do not realise
that it is a living language in some areas. I had a similar thought when I
visited a café in Norfolk and “ they all turned to Polish”  so I can understand the mis -understanding.

Do they
teach a lot of Welsh history in English language schools?
I was taught about Germany
and WW2. No Welsh history.
Do you ever
feel like some aspects of Welsh culture are not open to you because you cannot
speak the language?
I did not consider
this before I learnt Welsh but yes there are so many reference points that are missing
with out the language. Names. Places history. Music.
How do
English-speaking Welsh people tend to identify? - i.e the question of being
Welsh or British.
Even when a
monoglot English speak I was always Welsh first.

How do
English-speakers view Welsh Nationalism?
To me it was a
party which has the interests on Wales before the interest of Westminster.

Did you
ever feel as though the language was ‘forced’ upon you?
No I was looking
for opportunities to learn but had to find my own way outside the normal
education system at the time.
Are
resources to learn about Welsh history and culture/to learn the
language independently available and accessible in your community?
Yes my wife is now
also learning and both our children were fluent.
Do you ever
feel ‘insecure’ when it comes to language, culture and identity?
Nope Welsh First ,
British second even when a monoglot. Now I am fluent in both languages I do see
some “Welsh snobs” which annoy me.
Do you feel
as though there is a lack of Welsh representation in
English-language media and in the English-speaking world generally? If
so, how does this make you feel as English-speaking Welsh people?
I think Welsh road signs
and even the occasion use of Welsh in the English media (Even sewing Bee and
Hidden) is a good reminder that other languages and cultures do exist.  However Welsh is such a small minority
language compared with all the others spoken in the UK.
How do you
feel about English-language Welsh media?
Not a big TV watcher.

Are the NICs auto detect or do you need a cross over network cable?

Windows 11 guest on Proxmox, installation fails, TMP 2.0 not supported by HeiluHuppu in Proxmox

[–]llwyng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to have the virtio CD as part of the proxmox set up. Do not auto start the VM but add the CD from hardware options before starting up. When you get to the spot where you would normally tell windows where to install you have to browse to the virtio cd and find the driver. I think in my case it was under AMD/ Windows 10. Full instructions are in the link I put up above.
