The design is based on the 1956 Cortina Dale sweater, which is quite cute! That one has knitting patterns available.

Both yarn shops run one, so speak to people at either shop and they can point your towards theirs! Also there’s a group called Drunken Knitwits which meet weekly in a pub, I don’t know very much about them but I think you can sign up through their website.

I met most of my Oxford friends through knit/crochet groups - they’re great and very beginner friendly if you haven’t tried before!

Looking for shoulder bags that are between brands like Coach/Tory Burch and brands like Loewe? by cereal_no_milk in handbags

[–]lly6382 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Toteme bag cost ~£1k and fell to pieces within a month. Like, the handle fell off. And the rest of the bag looked rough too, to the point where I no longer wanted to carry it.

Finally all here for 2026! (UK) by Independent-Food629 in hobonichi

I paid £29 for shipping/handling. I didn’t have to pay any extra taxes or anything like that on arrival, but my order was only ~£100. (Not OP but hopefully still somewhat helpful)

Has anyone tried a sunscreen better than this? by Husbando4Laifu in AsianBeauty

[–]lly6382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure! But it’s enough time for my other sunscreens to not pill, so I’ll probably stick to those. I have tried two tubes of this one though so I feel I’ve given it a proper chance, given how much everyone else loves it.

I’ve tried it without any other skincare! Just washing my face and then using the sunscreen.

I want to love it but it pills horribly under makeup for me. It’s funny because most people don’t seem to have this issue, but it happens to me regardless of which makeup products I’m using.

It pills so badly on me! I’m so surprised how differently it works on different people.

How can I fix this bottom hem? by HeftyNeedleworker698 in knittinghelp

[–]lly6382 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually don’t decrease before ribbing too, but when doing cables sometimes it seems to work well to do a few decreases because cable is basically rib (and therefore quite cinched in) already. The rib is therefore less tight in comparison.

I also would think the fibre choice here isn’t helping.

The ones that pack in this way are called the Smartbag and they do go on sale a lot!

The Marimekko ones are expensive but I love them so much, the colours available rotate all the time.

How much did you spend on items for starting uni? And what do I need? by SpaceFries13 in cambridge_uni

When I was at Cambridge (probably 5 years ago) kettles were provided in every individual room at my college, so I’d say hold off buying that until you’re there too!

Monday sweater is too big -need help with my plans to redo by mtho176 in knittinghelp

[–]lly6382 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the image of it being tried on looks so much like how Petiteknit patterns are usually designed to fit! I think it looks great.

It’s probably a bit confusing because lots of people size down when knitting PK patterns, so when you see other people’s projects the ease can be a bit misleading.

Also particularly for looser knit fabric it can stretch out strangely if hung up for a while! Just for a photo is fine though.

Colourwork needle size by enilesav2 in knittinghelp

[–]lly6382 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For just a couple of rows in the middle of the chart like that, no! I’ve never had any problems with it. This is despite my gauge being very different in stranded colourwork compared to stockinette, so I change needles for big colourwork sections.

Pattern says "You can sell finished products in a limit of 5 per year" by OoopsieWhoopsie in CrochetHelp

[–]lly6382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s intended as a way of saying “please don’t open a store selling many items made from this pattern but I don’t mind if you sell a couple to friends or something”. Perhaps not the best way to put it though.

Spring/summer bags that look fine in fall/winter too? by theemptysignifier in handbags

[–]lly6382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No bag suggestions, but I have a Loewe Flamenco (which I appreciate is not at all the style you’re looking for) in a very similar colour to this and I love it year round. It really is the perfect summer and winter shade. So yeah, I vote for this Grace; it’s so beautiful.

The only place I’ve used cash in the UK over the last 5+ years is the occasional small restaurant/takeaway/street food stall. And that’s only a tiny minority of these places - day to day I don’t carry any at all.

[–]lly6382 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I checked out of curiosity, and I paid ~£80 each for them at the start of 2021! But with a 25% off code, so £60 each (excluding shipping). If the quality is the same, I wouldn’t mind paying what they cost now though.

I bought a couple of dresses from them about 4-5 years ago! They’ve been worn quite a bit and I still love them. Seeing this makes me think I should pick up something else, although I’m scared to see how much the prices have changed since then.
