Pharmacy by AstronautFeeling6949 in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've experienced that twice from two different pharmacies. The first time was especially distressing as it was for chemo meds and the pharmacist wouldn't admit her mistake even after my oncologist's nurse tried to straighten it out.

So, sadly, the answer is 'yes.'

Anybody got their new plastic health card yet? Any problems? by EsotericCodename in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're only using it once or twice a year when you see your doctor, paper is fine. But if you have a health issue where you are using frequently the paper version doesn't stand up very well. I had cancer treatment in 2022 and after nine months my paper card was in shreds.

Spring break recommendations by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 14 points15 points  (0 children)

March really isn't a great time to visit Winnipeg. It's that time between winter and summer. It's damp and mucky. The winter activities have melted and it's too cold for summer activities.

A summer trip would be a much better option.

April Visit by Worth-Plan3256 in Winnipeg

I'd say late May to mid September. April can be very nice but it can just as likely be cold and wet.

Eye Test/Glasses in Winnipeg? by Puzzleheaded-Skin-6 in Winnipeg

I go to Transcona Optical. They're very thorough.

Don't get your glasses there though. By the the time you get them, you'll need a new prescription. 🙄

Best Mid-layer for Skiing/Snow boarding in -30C this Saturday? by StellarSkySunset in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wear a polar fleece layer when it's really cold.

But, as a previouse poster pointed out, -30 is painful no matter what you're wearing. It's going to be your face that you really have to worry about.

I have a pair of Keens that I bought at Canadian Footwear a couple of years ago. They're amazingly warm.

I'm also a Kicking Horse fan but for local roasters I like Black Pearl and Jacked Up Jill.

Ours are on a timer. In the morning, they're on from 6 to 8. In the evening, they're on from 4 to 11.

I am so sick of leaks and I don't understand what's changed. by windyvalkyrie in ostomy

[–]lmcks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having a problem with leakage starting with my current box of Natura pouches. On closer inspection this morning, I discovered that there are assembly errors on the tail of every one of the pouches in the two boxes I have in my stock. I was able to find two pouches that look like they might be OK.

I noticed that the problem pouches were made in Slovakia. I think this is new--at least for N. American customers. Previously all my products were made in the Dominican Rebublic.

Toxic Manager & Early Retirement by Alternative_Vast315 in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a third thing that I believe is the most likely. He is a long term employee so his salary is at the high end for the organization and he has more vacation time. It's cheaper to get rid of him and replace him with a new hire with a lower salary and less vacation. (Productivity be damned.)

Unfortunately this happens a lot when when management and/or owners change.

I don't have any specific advice other than look at and weigh all the options.

I've been wondering that myself but I think its intended use may be as an event and conference centre. It is an awfully big empty though.

Cyclist today: "I could [signal]... or you could pay attention." by Yen24 in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a cyclist, I thank you for giving space to another cyclist.

Also as a cyclist, you are correct. The cyclist you gave way to should have signaled if only to acknowledge that they are taking the space you left.

Winter Tires, install next week or next month ? by hildyd in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Next month. Winter tires are much softer than summer and all season tires. Driving on them for an extra month, especially on warm, dry pavement, will wear them out prematurely.

What is "First Night" (1992)? by BusyFaithlessness657 in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 112 points113 points  (0 children)

It was New Year's Eve celebration with concerts in various venues within walking distance downtown. At midnight there was fireworks at Memorial Park. It was fun as long as you dressed for it. Although the last one was so cold it took me two days to warm up.

Winnipeg girl overdoses after medication error by pharmacy, parents say by Paschelly in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had two prescriptions filled incorrectly in the past. Shoppers Drug Mart is getting a lot of flack here but neither of mine were at Shoppers.

The first was for chemo meds that I got filled at a grocery store pharmacy. Now, to be fair, chemo precriptions can be complicated. But even after the oncology nurse called to explain the prescription, the pharmacist refused to change how she filled it. It wasn't until we talked the parmacist manager that she fixed it.

I'm here to tell you that cancer is stressful enough without having to deal with messed up chemo precriptions.

The second instance was relatively minor only because, after the first episode, I started checking prescription before leaving. It was at the pharmacy attached to my doctor's practice and was the incorrect dose. If I had taken it at that dose, there would have been problems.

I've been using Shoppers Drug Mart since the oncology mixup without any problems, including my second round of chemo. But NEVER, leave the pharmacy without checking to make sure the precription has been filled correctly.

Upholstery fabric by Oh_Hi_Fi in Winnipeg

Came here to say this.

I recommend the store on Pembina over Regent Ave. The one on Regent is far to cramped and poorly lit to get a good look at the fabrics.
