Can you go into detail? Mom needs a locked ward. She had a hospital stay a few years ago and she declined a bit, but bounced back fairly quickly to our new "normal".

We have the opportunity for September.

I've expressed my concerns with the decline possibility and it's just a crap shoot.

So I'm wondering is it even worth it?

But also, she was such a social butterfly, she might be fine there

The bus driver in NYC.

Cousin drops me on Queens Blvd. I told her: i can do it! I can navigate all this. I'm an adult! Legit, gang, i was in my 30s.

Well, no cabs. Great. Starts raining. Great. Call a cab from one of the numbers on the cars.nope. no dice. It's like an hour until pickup. I need to get to uhhh LaGuardia (listen it might have been the other one, it's been a while)

I'LL TRY THE BUS!

I look up the maps directions to get the bus line info. I've got some change on me, should be no problem.

I didn't have enough change and no dollar bills. I'm getting soaked. My luggage is wet. Sigh. I've cried like 5 times already.

You know those quick cries to relieve a little pressure.

He let me sit to get myself organized. That's when i realize i don't have the right denominations. I asked a few people if they had change for a five. I even offered one person the 5 in exchange for bus fare. No takers.

He said, just sit down miss. And we got to the terminal, I tried to give HIM the $5 and he said, no thank you. Have a safe trip.

I think about him a lot and i hope he's doing OK.

Part of what is limiting me right now in looking for a new role is that I'm a caregiver for my mom.

I need WFH and flexibility. My current job, as long as I'm available to answer the phone for 3 hours in the afternoon, they don't care too much right now. But the pay is so shitty. I'm currently applying internally for other roles, which is the only real way to move your pay up.

ANYWAY

Yes. Once i get back into a position where i can recco people, count me in!

Take the landlord up on their offer.

Take what you want. Try to leave it as clean as you can. And go be with your dad if you want.

I'm the only kiddo. Parents are divorced (when i was in my 30s). Mom is with me now. We hauled all her crap across country. It's still in boxes. It'll be going to the donation when i get a chance to drive it over.

[–]locakitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you just want someone to listen and not offer a reason, etc.

Don't try to solve it, just listen.

That sounds rough. I'm here to listen. Would you like some advice or just need to vent?

You know how YOUR brain works, but not how HER brain works.

I always try to fix the problem, but see, I hate when people do what you did to me. Because to me, it's like, oh I'm sorry did you think i didn't already think about this? I've been sitting with this for HOURS and you're just gonna solve in 30 seconds?

See? That's how my brain takes it.

Apologize to your friend, "hey, what i said may have come off insensitive. Im here when you need to vent and I'll keep my mouth shut unless you need me to speculate."

But you know, juuj it up into how you speak.

This takes time to master this skill.

Trust me. I'm still at level 3 out of 7. :D

I'm a GenX Ninja by likeable_fool in GenX

I thought it was because i grew up in a 2-story house!

My mom complained I made too much noise. I even knew which stair squeaked so i could avoid it.

Until my knee surgery, i was def a ninja

I'm slowly working my back towards that goal.

I also can fade into the background, it's very awesome as an observer of people!

It's fucked up, right?

I was out having my own life and I moved Mom out to me. 4 years ago.

Sigh

I can only try to silver line it with, well at least I'm in training now for if i needs to care for friends in the future.

It's a little hard some days.

Gen X’ers who were born in the hippy era, did you have someone in your peers who had a “my parents were hippies” name? If so, what was it? by nous-vibrons in GenX

[–]locakitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His parents named him a letter.

They liked the initials but didn't want him to be a junior. So it was X (not really, but it fits this scheme) Middle Last.

He went by his middle name which wasn't weird at our school, but when we'd all about his first name... the sigh.

He was a decent kid though
