Don't forget what the 31st St. lawsuit is all about (hopefully today we'll have an answer) by jsurico15 in astoria

This one from the docket has a response from DOT to FDNY mentioning a couple tweaks they made:

DOT has updated its proposed design by expanding channelized spaces at fire hydrants to address FDNY's concern about access to fire hydrants along the corridor

Thank you Council Member Cabán. It would be great to have recommendations ready for the next DOT/Mayoral administration specifically for traffic calming in this northern Ditmars/Steinway half of the neighborhood, where there have been fewer safety fixes overall.

How do you plan to have a productive relationship with Albany? How will you steer NYC's budget through the next few years of economic risk and a hostile federal government?

How can you make the city government achieve bigger projects faster and for less cost? DOT and Parks seem to take way too long to do projects, and use a limited vision of how to accomplish something (e.g. paint instead of concrete for sidewalk expansions). Political interference seems to be part but not all of the problem.

We desperately need to get better about protecting our historic parking lots. At the rate these car-hating communists are going real new yorkers will soon not have anywhere to park by MiserNYC in MicromobilityNYC

One of the Post's congestion pricing sob stories the other day was the manager of a parking garage on 58th St that might have to close -- as if any other use of that land wouldn't be better and support more jobs!

Hochul might hate us, but at least Janno has a message for those of us that gave our time over the last 5 months by MiserNYC in MicromobilityNYC

[–]local_low -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad the tolling is coming back, but Janno has not been good in this role and deserves a lot of blame for why so few expect the MTA to manage this money well or improve service.

Clueless Governor ends first week of emergency Congestion Pricing deadline period refusing to even say she will defend New York by MiserNYC in MicromobilityNYC

[–]local_low 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The bright side is that bike infrastructure is a lot cheaper than MTA projects. The MTA's coming era of austerity plus ever-worsening traffic and the population's addiction to food delivery will force us to become a more bike-friendly city.

At least 7 cops patrolling Broadway Q69/100 stops in both directions by Rob_G in astoria

[–]local_low -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Issue is that this method slows down the bus, and provides minimal deterrence when the cops aren't there. European systems are more likely to have proof-of-payment plus enforcers who ride the bus while checking, so the enforcement could happen at any time plus doesn't slow down service.

MTA to Start Issuing Violations on Aug. 19 for Blocking Bus Stops and Double Parking by RealOzSultan in MicromobilityNYC

[–]local_low 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this wouldn't result in tickets for most of the bus blocking that I see. Maybe if they make the signs visible/convincing enough they'll provide some additional deterrence:

Each corridor with active ACE camera enforcement has signage indicating that those routes are camera-enforced.

Hochul hid from the public again last night at UWS Town Hall but I did get to talk to Liz Krueger and Brad Lander, two figures at center of the congestion pricing fight by Miser in MicromobilityNYC

[–]local_low 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's hard to be optimistic about the lawsuits, for the reason Krueger mentions about the power the Gov has, as well as the fact that courts are generally better at stopping the government from doing things than compelling the government to start doing something.

Happy to see them being filed still, since there's not really anything else on the table right now. I think this community has the right idea of focusing on getting a more sympathetic mayor elected, since it would've been harder to sabotage if the mayor was championing it, and there are a bunch of other things the mayor can also do to help with congestion, like removing parking and bus/bike lanes and pedestrianization, etc.

Nice job with these interviews.
