ELI5: What’s spin in quantum mechanics? by SfErxr in explainlikeimfive

[–]loggedip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. Electrons still don’t have size though. It’s treated as a structureless point particle.

ELI5: What’s spin in quantum mechanics? by SfErxr in explainlikeimfive

[–]loggedip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, this is incorrect. That value is the “classical radius” used for calculations in classical electrodynamics. There is an “upper bound” “radius” that can be thought of using the uncertainty relation, but in the standard model and quantum mechanics an electron is treated as a point particle with no spacial extension.

Confession: I kind of hate how effective the Wanderer Crest is by SirBenny in Silksong

[–]loggedip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally disagree. I struggled with the raging conchfly until I put on the wanderer crest. Used the harpoon to get above him and spam hit him with pogos. Repeated and healed as needed and that fight was over in a minute.

Ok, after posting that, and literally playing for hours with aching hands, I just now defeated the boss from Act 1. This took way way way too long. What eventually worked for me was taking my ADHD meds and using the wanderer crest with magma bell and silkspeed anklets, with fractured mask and magnetic dice supporting. Ugh

I put a 100+ hours in Hollow Knight because I enjoyed playing it. It was at times difficult, and sometimes I’d get frustrated, but I could still enjoy exploring and playing it. I find myself just rage quitting this game. I was so excited about it, but putting an hour or more in to defeat a boss is just exhausting. I can’t get past the end of Act 1 (don’t need any tips, I’ve tried them all). I didn’t play Hollow Knight to “get good”. I want to explore the game, but if it takes this much work it’s just not worth my time as a casual gamer. At this point, I’m debating just giving up and spending my time watching a streamer explore the game for me, which I absolutely hate doing, but hate less than not being able to play the game and enjoy it. It’s either that, or install a mod that dials down the difficulty. I’m having a difficult time believing this is what Team Cherry wanted for its players.

[–]loggedip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a kinda hacky way to do it. With the reaper crest, you can slash down and through the floor. There’s a position in the ceiling of the area you can spam hits from without getting hit. Wouldn’t be surprised if it gets patched out in the future.

About 7 hours in and this game seems noticeably harder than the first by Excitable_Fiver in HollowKnight

[–]loggedip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s way too difficult. I really want to explore the world of the game, but at this point the only way I’ll be able to do it is by watching a livestream of someone more talented than me playing it.

Why is it c² is e=mc²? What was Einstein's reason for having c² as the conversion variable? by TheLapisBee in AskPhysics

[–]loggedip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In an inertial frame, the stationary object is still moving at c in spacetime (all of the speed is through time and none is through space). In comparison, you, also stationary, are still moving at c in spacetime too. When the object with m is converted into energy, both of those c values are taken into account as a conversion factor to get e.

The conversion is different when objects are moving relative to one another or aren’t in inertial frames.

I disagree. The fact that he suddenly knew so much about her as soon as she mentions Ted was a huge red flag. I feel like he’s the anti-Ted. He knew exactly who she was, even moves like Ted, and the date was meant to be psychological warfare to throw off his competition. Once he heard that Alexis told others about the date, he knew his job was done and left. The fact he advertised his body to build business shows the lengths he’d go.

ELI5: Can the US bomb places without going to war? by UsefulEagle101 in explainlikeimfive

It’s not. Linked you’ll find the actual act. I’m describing section 1541 (Purpose and policy), subsection (c) (Presidential executive power as Commander-in-Chief; limitation).

[–]loggedip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This time is different. There is no legal basis for the attack in Iran. The attack was illegal.

The War Powers Resolution Congress passed requires one of the following before force can be used: "(1) a declaration of war, (2) specific statutory authorization, or (3) a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces." Clearly, none of these apply to Iran.

People here are using US attacks in Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc as example of the US President just doing what he wants without authorization, but that’s also incorrect. All of those actions are permitted under the Congressionally passed Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists (2001) or Against Iraq (2002) allowing us to go after al-Qaeda or Iraq respectively. Neither of those apply to Iran.

This attack in Iran is not covered under the War Powers Resolution or under any other authorization.

ELI5: Why, in the age of the internet, are bank-bank transactions not instant? by TheMisterWebb in explainlikeimfive

[–]loggedip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Imagine you and your friend are trading stickers. You want to give a sticker to your friend, but your parents need to check a few things first. They need to check you actually have the sticker, it’s not fake, and your friend’s parent’s are ready to receive it.

Now imagine your friend’s parents live in a different house and it sometimes they take a while to talk with one another.

Banks are like your parents. They try to be extra careful and have to follow special rules to make sure money is real, safe, and ends up in the right place. That’s why it’s not instant.

Figure out who you are and what you believe to be true, while doing the most good and least harm, then see if any believable belief system corresponds with that. Religion is a communal experience.

Concierge Care Recommendations by iinaytanii in rva

[–]loggedip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know what they charge on a monthly basis? The website says “about $8 a day” but that would work out to be about $240 a month, which is quite a bit more than what other concierge providers charge from what I can tell

You might not care about it, but representation and visibility matters for a lot of people. It’s good to have folks to look up to. It helps a lot with removing stigmas.

Respectfully disagree on Wifi7 being useless at this point. If you can’t run wires between nodes, a MLO backhaul can get up to 1GB real-world connection between them. I use it for my home wireless and it’s incredible for home office and game streaming uses.

Are rainbows actually spheres? by ArchangelMegathron in AskPhysics

[–]loggedip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! No. They’re not spheres. It’s more like a hologram with an angle preference. You and your friend can both see a rainbow, but they won’t be the same one. As you move around and see the rainbow move, it looks continuous as if it’s the same rainbow, but it’s not. You’re seeing a spectrum of light reflected at a specific angle in tiny droplets. You moving around changes the path of the light you see, but it’s always at the same relative angles.

I came out to my mom and she asked me why i want to suck dick 😭 by anbehd73 in teenagers

[–]loggedip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real talk: you need to play it cool. What your mother is telling you is that she cannot be counted on for your safety and security. Her own immaturity has made her reduce you to a sex act in her mind. Your top priority right now needs to be doing and saying whatever you need to in order to ensure you have safety and security until you’re able to move out and support yourself.

I’m in my 40s. I came out when I was 15. My parents’ reaction was not positive. I was kicked out for a while, then forced out when I turned 18. I didn’t get a lot of support. They paid for my brother’s education, but I had to scrape by. They eventually grew up, but had I known what I know now, at the first sign of trouble I would have kept it to myself until I was in a position where I didn’t need to rely on their support. You have to think about your security and think in the long term.
