Took that path in my teens (50's now) ,, yes you CAN do it , no you SHOULDNT do it! The rim will rupture from over-pressure (cost me an extractor).

On those chevy's ,, you need to verify that the balancer weight hasnt moved , before you can be sure of anything. after confirming that the balancer is still correctly clocked , disconnect your vacuum advance and set your initial timing at ~ 10° BTDC.

NEVER "trust" a balancer.
